  1. My stomach was never really sore from the surgery. I did have gas pain in my stomach for about 3 days. The shoulder pain is gas too. The reason I didn't have such bad gas was because I threw up after surgery and when I was throwing up, gas was forcefully coming out of my mouth. It was so weird.

Tylenol liquid helped me in the beginning. Also a nice heating pad on the stomach and shoulder. I used to lay on mine at night.

My friend told me it took a month for all the gas to come out!

    Hello,

I stocked up on all the liquid stuff from what I read here and my doctor informed me that this is for gastric bypass patients, not banding. I have been swallowing pills and doing chewable vitamins and Calcium. They are huge and I sure don't want them stuck! I discovered that I don't like liquid tylenol too much! :phanvan

  2. Hello all! Don't know if you noticed me missing for nearly a week. This is my 4th time typing this because I keep deleting by accident. :faint: Anyway, the day of surgery I was so nervous I shed a few tears thinking maybe I was being a bit hasty doing this to myself. I found out that I have sensitive skin and was itching from the Dial soap I was to shower with prior to surgery. I now hate Blue Frost Gatorade because I had to drink 64 ounces the night before surgery and almost threw it up on the last few swallows. Surgery went well and I was able to walk and had less pain than my gallbladder surgery in October. The hospital and staff were awesome and took very good care of me. The next morning during a routine breathing treatment, I began to shake so hard my teeth were chattering! I had developed a fever of 104!! I was so miserable and thought what have I done to myself?? They took 4 small pop sized bottles, not vials, bottles of blood and there was no infection with the band or anything. (Thank God!) I was terrified that I was rejecting my band, etc.. I also did a barium swallow and never knew iodine tasted so awful. I saw my band and it looked so perfect. I ended up with the worst sinus infection ever. Every time I blow my nose, it bleeds. I was so sick the past few days, I could not even listen to a tv. No noise or my head would ring. Lesson 1 - don't ignore the little sore throat the day of surgery! I ended up fortunate because I was allowed scrambled eggs, pudding, etc.. from the start, this is where lesson 2 comes in: Mashed potatoes were so good today after not wanting to eat at all since Tuesday that I ate 3 bites too fast and it hurt so bad that I thought I would die. I did everything but stand on my head trying to relieve the pain. Nearly 30 minutes or so later and I will not make that mistake twice. Sorry to ramble but I had to get this off my chest... Now the good news, I am happy to be banded and I have already lost 10 lbs.!! I was stunned. Well, take care and I hope my advice here will be helpful for some future bandster.

  3. Hello everyone!!

I can't believe that I only have 2 days left. Clear liquids tomorrow and getting mentally prepared! I am excited and nervous. I think I ate all of my favorite foods this weekend knowing that I will be looking at food very differently for the rest of my HEALTHY life. I said my prayers in church today for a speedy recovery and a smooth surgery. I wish everyone here the best and I thank you for sharing so much with me. I have learned more here than anywhere.

  4. three days...stocked up on EVERYTHING thanks to everyones tips..including gasx and liquid tylenol, have my broth, multiple waters(propel, vita Water, special k Protein water), Jello, popsicles, and heating pad..am I forgetting anything??? oooh, Im nervous, I am goign to call my doctor tomorrow and ask for something prior, like valium or xanax...does everyone have to stay overnight in the hospital? I am planning on going right home after surgery..but it seems like alot of you stayed the night...I dont want to, I want to be in my own bed (I washed all my bedding and did all my laundry!) Im soooo ready!!

I stocked up too. I found a great deal on a Sunbeam twin blanket for $21.00 at Wal-Mart to have an all over heating pad since I have to sleep partially sitting up on the couch after surgery. I had my gallbladder out in October and could not lay down in my bed for a week!

  5. Trishd- good luck on the 29th. Let us 30's know how you are as soon as you are able. We will all be anxious to hear how you are doing "on the other side". Know this is our first step.

Thatgirl, LadyLeo868 and Gigi8- Jauary 30th is the first day of the rest of our lives. The first day of the BEST of our lives! Stay in touch... and best wishes for getting through Monday and pre-op gracefully. I am so confident that we can do it!

I have started a list of the things I can't wait to do when I get closer (goal).

    1. I want to swim with my children- have been to embarassed to wear a swimsuit in public.

    2. I want to renew my vows with my fabulous and supportive husband who never in 17 years has ever said "boo" about my weight. In a SLEEVELESS white gown on a beach somewhere. Hid most of the pictures from my trip down the aisle- white is not a slimming color!

Inspire each other with your to do list!

Hugs and best wishes for a successful BAND DAY! Kim

Thank you for the kind words and warm wishes. I can't wait to wear shorts in the summer. I was too embarassed last summer and sweated in jeans! God bless my hubby too. He has never said a word about losing weight either and he is supportive. I wish you the best of luck too!!

  6. helloooo everyone...this is my last weekend of eating like a pig! I am being banded wednesday..I stocked up on the chicken and beef broth (wolfgang puck), popsicles, apple juice, and crystal light...still need to pick up a case of Water and the special k Protein water..hmm...whatelse do I need..oh yeah, bought some straws too! figured I would get more h2o in that way...I am only taking off three days from work, and the weekend, so it will be five total..anyone else go back to work within a week?

    Hello,

I get banded the day before and I am excited. I did notice that you mentioned straws - my doc said no straws. Also, the books I have say no straws either. I think it puts air in there and can make the pouch expand which can cause problems with the band.

Just thought I should let you know what I was told...

    Good luck next week!!:D

  7. Man, I'm am so sick of broth, Protein Shakes etc. I've been doing them for 12 days now and still have 5 more days! I get to go to Mushie next Thursday and I am counting the days. My doctor still won't let me have meat, but I can have refried Beans, cottage cheese, soft egg, no hot sauce, yogurt, and I am even looking forward to cottage cheese.

Sherilynn, I hope everything goes okay, please let us know after your cardiologist visit.

Also, maillady2, I added you to the master list, and I've sent an email to Angy (the starter of this thread) to update her original post. She should update in a day or two.

    Hello!

Please add me to the list - belly band is born on 01/30!!!

    Thank you....

  8. THANKS!!!

Now I got to get my butt moving with exercise!!!

I have been dying to know what your loss was. I am so happy for you. I can't believe that I only have 3 days to go and I will be banded the following morning!!!! Excited, anxious, nervous, etc.....:faint:

  9. I want to thank all of you for our advice, enthusiasm and honesty. I have been watching for some time while I decided....and waited....went through pre-op testing... and waited. Now, I am one week away from making the change that I hope will give me the tool to control this demon I have fought since I was ten years old. I am 44, and a mother of 2 with my own business. It is time to take care of me now. I have a bmi of 38 and am 220. I spend every waking minute trying to win this battle through deprivation, exercise and sheer will. I have 2 grandmothers 280+

and the curse of a certified slow metabolism. I look forward to happier times.

It is this forum where I have been most inspired and informed. I hope that I will be able to inspire with my successes, too. HOPE... it feels good. thank you.

Would love to find other 1/30's to keep in touch with.

I am a 01/30 also! My story is similar to yours except the battle began at 20 and I am 38. I can't believe there are only 4 days to go!! Good luck to you.

  10. Okay, I received great news today. I passed all the pre-op tests and I am first in line for my surgery on Tuesday morning!!!! :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: I believe the nurse had me upset yesterday because my blood pressure was 124 over 82 yesterday and 110 over 72 today. Also, no skipped heartbeats. Perfect EKG today. She didn't make me feel very good when she tried to scare me yesterday and I was so happy today. I started my pre-op diet today (my own decision) and I am doing well so far. I am looking forward to finally joining everyone here in band land!!

  11. Congrats on the loss!!!:clap2: :clap2: I also made my 6 week fill appointment. How do they determine if they give you one?

    Hi Audree!

My doc said today that he does a fill when you start to feel really hungry and want to eat like you did before the band. Otherwise, he doesn't add restriction to the band.

  12. Hey everyone! I'm back and banded! Whoo-hooo!!!!

Everything went really well, and I'm feeling pretty good. My back is freakin' killing me, but the heating pad seems to be working. No incision pain so far, but it is hard to take a deep breath and stand up straight. I'm in for 2 weeks of full liquids, but man --- it is really hard to get past the mental block of just having few sips at a time!

One funny thing... My surgery went so fast (45 mins) that when the doc came out to talk to DH and my mom, they freaked out thinking something was wrong! Turns out I have "great anatomy" (LOL!), which I guess made it easy to do.

Did anyone else get pictures of their insides? My doc gave me two pics -- one that shows the band in place and another that shows one of the sutures around the band. I'll post them next week if anyone is interested. It's kinda neat.

I'm at my mom's for a few days, so I probably won't be on as much as usual. I'll try to keep up. Can't wait to hear from my date twins!

    Maria

Congrats!!!!:clap2: :clap2: :clap2: My doc gave me photos after my gallbladder surgery in October. I was surprised to receive such a souvenir!! LOL I met my surgeon today and he was really nice and answered all of my questions. Unfortunately, I have more pre-op tests tomorrow since they didn't schedule them with the others yesterday. I was not happy with the one nurse when she tried to tell me that my heart skipped beats 4 times. My heart was fine yesterday during my tests and my ekg was perfect last week. I have to have one tomorrow for surgery so wish me luck that all turns out well. I really feel I was nervous and anxious so I will close my eyes and picture being thin on the beach in Hawaii!!:huggie:

  13. okay. so i got another call from my hubby. they approved us for the whole amount at 14%. when it was just my hubby, it was 5.9%. that really burns my bottom.

anyhow... so... 14%??? isn't that way too high?

ack!!! i'm totally confused now... i maintained i wouldn't get the loan if it was at too high of an interest rate... BUT i never determined what was too high.

i don't know if i should just wait for the home equity line of credit... or take this and pay it off later...

    ack!!! brain overload! :help:

    oh, p.s. :faint:

I had to get a loan too. I felt like I bought a car with a five year loan!! I decided that it will be well worth it though. I also negotiated a cash discount today for paying in full so I went from 16K to 12,800 :clap2: which includes everything and fills for 1 year! I am happy and I believe this is a great price. My doctor is board certified with over 20 years experience and the bariatric unit is a center of excellence rated hospital. Good luck, I get my surgery next Tuesday.

  14. My heating pad helped and the walking helped. Also, the gas x.

I would also bend over my pillow with the heating pad on it, kinda face in the bed, butt in the air position and the air seemed to find its way up somehow!!

    Audree,

I was laughing like crazy picturing me doing this in my mind!

    Christine

  15. WOW! I didn't have to do a blood gas test. Sounds very painful!

I was told that my surgeon likes to know how much oxygen is in your blood before surgery so he knows if the level is normal after surgery. I am happy to know he is thorough but I definately did not like it!!:faint:

  16. I need a name for MY band!??? Being that for all my life I've been called everything from 'Shirly, Sharon, Shelia, Shelly,...' I thought I'd go with something like that. But I want it to be clever, like when us girls say "Ruby" is in town.

    :)

I have to smile because my hubby has started something here! I love reading that everyone is naming their band. Thumbs up to the "belly band"! :clap2: :clap2: :clap2:

  17. Hello everyone!

I had my pre-op testing today and meet with the surgeon tomorrow. It's hard to believe that surgery is next Tuesday! Did anyone have to do a blood gas test? I definately did not enjoy a needle being jammed into my artery on the inside of my wrist! :) I asked the nurse if this is the artery people cut themselves on? She said it is. I told her that you definately have to be mentally ill to inflict that kind of pain! We had a good laugh. I am wondering if my surgeon is going to put me on a pre-op diet tomorrow so I had the "last supper" tonight.

  18. I found the K2O at wal-mart. At our Wal-Mart they have it in the pharmacy and in the drink aisle. I have tried all three lavers that I have seen and like them all.

Thank you for the info. I was at Wal-mart today. I will go back before my surgery next week. Looks like you go a few days after me! Good Luck and let me know how you are doing.
