  1. What I love about this site is I can be brutally honest with my weaknesses and get good advice from everyone on how to help myself....

I am scared to death, did I make the wrong decision ... I was banded on the 28th stayed over night b/c of sleep apnea so yesterday was my first day home. I am suppose to be on a clear diet but I am so hungry I have been eating little bites of stuff here and there. I know this can't be good but don't know how to get my head wrapped around the idea of the band. How bad have I hurt myself and the band by eating the little things???? I am scared I am going to mess this whole opportunity up..... Any suggestions from you guys would be sooooo appreciated. Only on clear liquids at the moment but I think I can go to Protein shakes tomorrow which I am hoping will alleviate some the these weeknessess. Thank you again for any suggestions.....

i was banded on 12/30/10, i too was on a liquid diet 2 weeks post op, at first it was kinda easy, but if i had to eat one more Jello i would have puked! They want u to be on liquids so the swelling will go down and so you dont throw up, thorwing up is bad, it might happen but they dont want it to be an ongoing thing to help prevent slippage. Try your hardest to stay on the diet that your doctor gave you, he knows what he is talking about. I know its hard, but this is a life changing tool that you have, i have fallen off the wagon a few times, and then i have to say to myself you didnt go thru all this and put your family thru this to go back to the way you were. Keep in mind the BIG picture, and i wish you lots of luck.

  2. Does anyone use one of these for exercise? I bought one today and had fun with it and got a heck of a workout trying to play tennis!

we have one but i havent used it since my surgery. I have heard people using it as their exercise tool. It is a BLAST! Going to get the Wipeout game this weekend.

  3. What's up with the rudeness on this board? I don't get it......

Face it everyone, we're all the same here. You either are, or were...FAT! FAT! FAT! FAT! You may have lost weight, but you used to be FAT!!! So you see, we're all the same here, nobody's better than the other, we're just in different stages of the journey. We should be supporting each other to better ourselves and learn about the lapband. There are a lot of cool people on this board! But if you're one of those sour apples, you should get your crayons and go to the corner and color......

    amen sister!

  4. Hello everyone, I was banded on January 10, 2011 in Chicago. 5. Hello Fellow Band-Members! My name is Rueben from San Antonio TX. I'm a new bander going on 2 Days Strong! My surgery date was 12/30/10, what a Xmas and new years present to myself. I'm still in alot of pain and have hella gasses coming out of both openings, I know TMI but it's the truth. I've been drinking Protein shakes, sipping on alot of Water, doing my breathing excerises and walking around for atleast five minutes! My pain meds don't seem to work or help bur I know within time I'll be a brandnew Man! I'm looking foward for 2011 and the future! Happy New Year! God Bless & Good Luck! My current weight is 6'6 499, my new years goal is 6'6-375. It's going to be a long tough journey, but it's all or nothing! I've come this far, why not step it up and keep going!!!

Hey Rueban! We both had surgery on the same day! I can only have Clear Liquids for 2 more weeks, the gas is the worst and the port site is what hurts.Coughing is getting easier, i did sneeze today, that was very interesting hurt like a _______. You have nothing but an open road ahead of you, follow your MDs orders and you will make it. I will try to keep up with your progress. Best of luck fellow Lapbander! YOU CAN DO IT!!

  6. I'm fairly new too. I really had no pre-op diet, due to the fact that my job had decided to switch insurance providers come the new year. My original surgery date was set for January 10th, so to make a long story short I had about 9 days to prepare for surgery, talk about stressful! I was told to just eat smaller low fat meals and to stop my birth control pills, that's all. I can't imagine being on liquids 2 weeks before and after, I was ready to kill someone after the first week!

My surgery date was 12/13/10, and everything went very well. The worst part I'd have to say was the gas pains I had for about 3-5 days. I had the worst pains in my back as soon as I woke from anesthesia, so I was ready to get up and walk around right away to just let all the gas out any which way it was willing to fly. The only surgery pains I had really just felt like "work out" pains, just that burn from too many sit ups. After a day or 2 the rest of my body was feeling that way too from lifting myself. I never realized how much I actually use my abs, or lack there of, to get up and down.

My Doc was nice enough to allow me to cut my 2 week post-op liquid diet a few days short and I was able to eat "mushy" food for Christmas. In all honesty and to my surprise, I was able to eat pretty much anything right away. Doc gave me one piece of advice, "don't eat anything that walks on land and you'll be fine" as long as I chew it to death. I guess I'm a bad girl because I did have a very little bit of turkey but I did ok with it. I was fuller much sooner than I normally would have been, but was able to eat more than expected.

My diet now is mainly focusing on Proteins and veggies. I have to admit the holidays are tough and I've only just begun this journey. I can't wait until next week so I can start fresh, start working out, and prepare for my first fill on Jan 18th!

Good Luck with your surgery! Be happy and excited, there's nothing to be afraid of, maybe just the gas hehe

I am so excited for you!! The gas I think is the kicker. Its so funny to see all the different diets people are on. My next 2 weeks are liquids only, then 2 weeks of thick liquids like Protein shakes and mushy stuff, then solids woohoo! I was told I can eat meat, cheese, and dark leafy greens only. Can't wait to eat so sliced deli turkey and cheese that will be my first meal...mmmmm.

  7. Hi, I'm new to the lap band talk, but I had my lab band surgery last year, and i've lost 69 pounds to date, about another 35 pounds to go, although my doctor wants to see me loose another 55 pounds. This surgery was one of the best things I've ever done for myself!

I am so happy for you. I didnt set a # for myself, I am scared that I wont be able to make it and then disappoint myself. I want to feel good, that is my goal. I wish you all the luck and I know you can keep up the good work! I see you have 2 beautiful babies to live for you can do it!!!

  8. Thank you for the welcome - how is the liquid diet going? What kind of liquids are you drinking? I'm so curious!

i had to purchase Optifast (Protein shakes) from my surgeon i could have 3-5 per day @ 160 calories each. I could have diet drinks, Water, chicken/beef broth, wonton Soup broth only, sugarfree gum, anything you could see thru. I had to do this for 2 weeks pre op, this was during Christmas, it was a test, but I did it.

  9. Well I had my surgery Thursday (12/30/10) so far so good. The worst I would say is the gas pains but thats moving, thank goodness. They tell you to breath deep and cough, oh my gosh that hurts, but you gotta do it. I am feeling great, kinda nervous, but still excited. I still have to stay on a clear liquid diet for 2 more weeks, broth and popscicles are my "main dishes" I can have all the non calorie beverages I want in between as well as sugar free hard candy/gum. Thought I was gonna sleep like a baby after surgery but oh no, they were in every 15 mins, 30 mins, then every hour, ugh let me SLEEP!! lol I am really interested in talking to others that have had or going to have this done. If anyone lives in Polk county Fla I would really like to talk. I am married and have kids, not looking for anything just another lapbander. I wish the best for all of you that have yet to have your surgery and to those that have already had it keep up the great job and follow your doctors orders! Have a wonderful New Year everyone.

  10. I am schedule to have my surgery on 12/30/10 I am SO super excited and a little nervous after reading some of the posts on here. Its hard to know what to listen to and what not to since all of our MDs have different before and after plans. I have to be on a liquid diet 2 weeks prior and then 2 weeks after then work my way up to solids. I see some people on here are on a liquid diet for a month afterwards and I see some that eat anything (just in smaller portions) I was told my diet would be meat, cheese, and dark leafy veggies. Has anyone had their surgery done in St Pete, FL?
