  1. I saw those posts and bought some, too! I saw somewhere on here that they could help with stuck episodes. Maybe not worth it, huh?
  2. I think every insurance company is different. My 6 month diet was supervised by a nutritionist who only contacted me by phone. I had to lose 5% of my starting weight during the 6 months, and she had to assert that I had tried to eat right and excersize, but my Dr didn't do anything except weigh me at the beginning and end.

    S L O W doctor's office

I'm glad I'm not the only one frustrated with the Dr's office. They made me wait until my surgery was approved from the Ins Company before they would even set up the consultation, then didn't have an appointment for 6 weeks! ARGH!!
  4. So, I finally got around to telling my DH about my plan to have this surgery. He is very supportive of me, although he did say I didn't need it. He says I'm not fat I'm just fluffy.. Anyway, his main concern is that it may cause me to have acid reflux. My dad had it really bad, then GURD, then he ended up having to have his esophagus removed... Not nice... So, even though I've never had much of a problem there, I am concerned. Does anyone have experience with it?

    Regret?

Victoria-- I'm 50, put the weight on in my 20's, too. Be glad you got this done now! I've wasted 20 more years being fat than you! Can't wait to get banded!!

    Denial

I guess I'm in denial, or I have anti-anorexia or something, but I just don't see myself as being as fat as I really am... Is this common? I mean, I can stand on a scale and see what I weigh, and DUH, but when I look in a mirror it doesn't look that bad... I've told a couple of people that I'm having WLS, and I guess I expected them to say something like 'Gee, why? You don't need to lose that much weight.'. None of them did... I haven't told my DH, and don't plan to until the surgeon sets a date.. Why you ask.. because in my denial mode I'm still afraid the surgeon will say I don't need it... EVEN THOUGH the Insurance company has already approved ! Do I need to see a shrink, or what???

    Denial

Yes. When I see myself in a picture I'm definately FAT! No doubt about that. I've got one on the fridge that's hideous. I'm riding my QH mare and I look as big as her! OUCH! I get tired just walking up one flight of stairs, my knees hurt all the time, and I am definately ready for a change, but when I look in a mirror, I just don't see the fat. Wierd...

    Crushed

I just completed the 6 months supervised diet as well. The time went by faster than you'd think. My insurance required me to lose 5% of my starting weight. My starting BMI was just over 40, so the diet put me under. That was not a problem. They use the starting BMI to determine 'Morbid Obesity'. Anyway, as of today I'm approved and they are going to do the referral to the surgeon today! Woo hoo! Now, I hope the surgeon doesn't require more hoops...
  10. Too funny!! Yes, I'm here too much, too. Although I do shut it down when my hubby comes home. I haven't told him I'm having WLS yet. I'm hoping its a temporary addiction that will go away once I'm banded and losing. Maybe not...
  11. I'm a bit concerned about telling folks at work, too. I could take off, no problem, but I've got a lot of work on my plate right now, so I need to tell them something so they know its not just a vacation. I was thinking about saying I was going to have abdominal surgery and just leave it at that. Depending on what day of the week surgery is scheduled I think I'll take 1 week or less, just to avoid all the questions & gossip.

    Approved!!

That is great news! Things are moving really fast for you now that you've been approved. Congrats! I hope things go that fast for me, too, then we can all be January bandsters!!

    February 2011 Bandsters?

I don't have a date yet, either, but I think it will be late Jan or Feb. I've just completed the 6 mo wait for Ins approval, and hope to get an appt with the surgeon in the next week or 2. I'm really looking forward to the journey. We can do this!!!
  14. Good luck to you. You don't have long to wait. Have you tried Crystal Light drink mixes? sugar free and they really satisfy my sweet tooth. I know it sounds crazy, but I also mix up the peach one and add some to cottage cheese.. tastes like peach pie.. lol

    January 2011 Bandsters !!!

Hi all! I have been jumping through the insurance hoops for 6 months, but that FINALLY ends this Friday when I have my last weigh-in. YEAH!! I've met my weight goals, so I really hope that will be all I have to do before surgery. Can you believe that I haven't even met my surgeon yet? From what my PCP tells me he doesn't bother meeting with patients until they have been approved. They say it won't take long once I'm past the ins hurdle, so I hope to be a Jan banster, too. I haven't had to do any other tests (sleep, psyc, etc.) Do you think that will come later, or do some Drs not require it? Wish me luck!

    Sharing helpful websites

ThinnerTimes.com has a forum for both gastric bypass and lap band. Its got a lot of folks willing to help, but I find many of the responses come from people who have had the gastric band, and their issues are sometimes different than ours. alicez - freelapband.com is really annoying to me. I'm no english major, but if they are going to pay to create a web site, then they need to hire somebody who speaks english to write it for them. For example, in their FAQs "Does health insurance cover this procedure?" Their answer: " As you understand that method is presented out-of-doors the USA, I propose that you communicate your healthcare insurance provider to find out if the charges would be enclosed under your plan." HUH???
