Thanks for replying, I'll def need to call the Dr.'s office tomorrow, b/c I have def been having Soup since day 1 post op, I thought that was considered a thin liquid. I haven't had anything in the soup, just the base itself, but it looks like, I have really been off!!!!! I'm so worried, now and I hope I didn't cause any damage! I've felt fine since like Weds., and today I was able to finish a half of a shake!!!! All in all, I am doing well, at least I hope so, I'm about to call the Dr.'s office now, cause I am seriously worried!
Hi... I was with Dr. Hollis as well.
Hope you are doing well.
I understood as follows per the 4 page post op diet. The one that says "post this on your refrigerator".
Week 1- Jello, Protein shakes, and chicken broth... including the smoothie king Protein shake if you want.. it is not a smoothie.. it's like having the fruit punch flavored protein shakes.. not like you are eating fresh fruit.
Week 2- Protein Shakes, soup (YAY!).. but not campbells chunky or anything.. I have been sticking to Tomato, cream of whatever... no rice/potato, and then low carb, sugar free yogurt... (2/day) Plus Jello and broth as "snacks". This is NOT the mushy stage yet. My one cheat was trying to get a little tuna down and ate it too fast and it came right back up! My bad there.
Week 3- This is mushy stage... I plan for mashed up tuna, chicken in a can and overcooked veg, eggs... plus all of the above as well. You know how anti-carb he is.. a lot of folks have been doing mashed potatoes and such but I know the pre-op diet of low/no carb WORKS so am sticking to it. Not sure about measuring 4 oz... was just going to eyeball 1/2 cup..really am going to test my restriction as well... what do you think?
Week 4- Solids.
How has your experience been other than issues with post-op diet? I really like his staff... have not spent any time with him per say.
Happy New Year!

Since stumbling across LBT, my life has been consumed by it.....gotta get a life =)

Hahahahaha, you don't have to lie, just omit info, I plan on telling folks that I am reducing my portions drastically and following a partially liquid diet, which is all true!!!!!

What I don't get is why some Drs. have their patients eat soft foods right after the operation. I know for sure there is a highly regarded Dr. here in Houston, who has patients digest eggs before they can be cleared for discharge? So if the reason is really healing the stomach, then what happens to those folks and their stomachs?

Never had GB surgery, but with Gas X strips, heating pads, and the prescription pain mess, everything is bearable!

Hey guys I was banded on Monday by Dr. Hollis in Houston, TX and need a little feedback on the post op diet. I have tons of paperwork, including the discharge orders and an actual book, which covers eating after the operation, but I am still a bit confused. Do we have three or four phases in the post op diet? The book says three, but they are broken down into weeks one and two, weeks three and four and then solids. Also, there is a bit of contradiction with what is allowed. They say no fruits or veggies in week one, but the smoothie King Gladiator, which is one of the Protein shakes listed has two fruits in it?? I called for clarification and the nurse said she wouldn't do it if she were me???? Ugh, so why is it listed? My experience has been exactly like this the whole time, from payments, to drinking and pre op, just a lot of unnecessary riff raff, but I am trying to stay on track at this point, since I am now actually banded.
Week One
Thin liquids and Protein Shakes
Week Two
Thicker liquids is this the mushies stage?
Week Three
Soft foods, aka mushies?
Week Four
Solids
Is this accurate?

Hahaha, that was funny!
Yup, my doc said one glass of non carbonated alcoholic beverage is fine per day....so one before midnight and one after

I too was banded on Monday and post op week one is both thin liquids and Protein Shakes, which I think is a God send. I truly believe variety is key, although, I haven't been able to finish one whole shake yet, but it's nice to have options!

Thanks guys, I will definitely check at Whole Foods for some more options and also straining the Soup is a great idea! I want to clarify though, not making excuses, but both the shrimp and the Beans were pureed, nothing whole or solid. What I meant was that I was able to get the whole shrimp down without any problems and that concerned me.

You don''t sound mean at all, just honest and I appreciate that! I am having a really hard tome becuase I am a vegetarian and I can't eat the broths and stocks, but I guess I'll have to figure something else out.
im sorry if i sound mean..but the only thing wrong is u not following ur doctor rules.. you need to stay in your diet. full time not for the most part...

Well my Dr. said liquids this week, mushies next week and then on to the solids. For the most part, I have stuck to the liquids, I have only had a Protein Shake, a Water based Soup, the one with the one shrimp in it, and a Tomato based soup, I cooked today. Are those liquids too thick you think or what??
SHould you be eating already!!! What happend to the liquid diet you should be on!!????

I AM A LITTLE CONCERNED GUYS, I WAS BANDED MONDAY AND I HAVE ALREADY BEEN ABLE TO EAT A WHOLE SHRIMP IN MY Soup AND SOME Beans IN A MEXICAN SOUP I COOKED???? IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THAT OR IS IT JUST DIFFERENT PER BANDSTER? SOMEONE PLEASE LET ME KNOW, I'M TRIPPING MYSELF OUT AND STARTING TO CONVINCE MYSELF THAT, I HAVE STRETCHED MY POUCH?

I am 27, does that count?!
Is anyone out there around my age? I am 20. I have yet to find someone my age or even close to it who has been banded!

Can someone post pics of their scars, mine are starting to worry me? Also, how long do I wait before I start putting something on them?
-
hey the dr told me I would have a sore throat cuz of the breathing tube and I noticed that I get neck pains due to the gas they pumped my stomach with. Dont worry it goes away
Ok, thanks so much!
-
Hey guys,
Can somebody comment on this neck stiffness and my sore throat. How long will it last? Also, there were tiny amounts of blood in my throat and spit today, is it because of the breathing tube?
-
The only pain I was experiencing was the gas in my shoulders, but today my throat has been soooo swollen and my neck is really stiff =(
I was banded today too! Got home a few hours ago and feeling pretty good. Sore but not in any pain. How are you feeling?
-
I WAS BANDED TODAY, IS IT NORMAL TO PEE ALL NIGHT LONG AFTER THE OPERATION? IS IT THE SALINE?
-
HEY LOVEFORDALO,
CONGRATS TO YOU TOO, I'M REALLY FEELING LIKE I HAVE A NEW CHANCE AT LIFE AND I KNOW YOU DO TOO......LET'S DO IT!
Hey Jamillah congrats! I was banded today too... only I'm still in the hospital. My insurance requires an overnight stay.
-
So I was banded today, home now it was a longgggg day....bring on the questions!?
-
Hello band land,
I'm scheduled for tomorrow morning at 10:30 am ,I am so excited about the future, but nervous as hell about the portions and changes I'll have to make!
-
It's pretty sad, cause she has gained a ton of weight again. I've heard that is common with BP patients, b/c they never learn to change their eating habits!
Carnie Wilson had GB they showed it on the net the day she did it.

Hey just wanted to know how you all have been doing with the post op diet? Has everyone been able to stick to the restrictions, b/c I haven't and I'm feeling like the black sheep of the forum b/c everyone else seems to be mastering it, at least those who share! I think it is important, to share ALL info, both great and not so good news, just to help those coming along!
Anyway, I feel great about my progress so far, but just wanted to start this thread, b/c as I shared before, I initially had issues and was feeling like such a loser. Some of the feedback helped, but some had me feeling like I was going to Lapband Hell =). So I look forward to EVERYBODY'S responses and stories!!!!!
Side-note, I was able to sleep on my belly last night, for the first time!!!!!!!!!!! I am now 8 days post- op and I cooked a black bean and soy meat Soup last (pureed) but it was DE-LI-CIOUS! HIt me up, if you would like the recipe!!!
