  1. Ok. My surgery is in 11 days, and my surgeon hasn't told me post op diet yet. I will call tomorrow to double check. How did your post op diets go? how many days clear, how many days full liquids, when could you move on to pureed or mushies? I know every surgeon and post op plan is different, and I will be consulting mine, but was hoping for your experiences.
  2. I want to go home the same day, as my son will be spending the night at my moms. Or at least the next day, so my hubby won't feel torn between being with me at the hospital, and being with my son. I just don't like being in hospitals if I don't have to be.
  3. Mentally preparing myself for surgery...11days away!

    Surgery in 3 days

All I can say is I'm 11 days away from surgery and scared too. I was so freaked out, I sat down and told my husband what my medical wishes are in case I have complications and am unable to make my own decisions. I'm not so worried about hair loss, but I am scared to death of failure. I am young, so no one in my family understands why I want this now. But I can't chase my son at the park. I can't stand on my feet for a full 12 hour shift, like I need to. Probly TMI, but I am so turned off by my own body at this point, that my marriage is suffering. I also know that after this surgery all of these things will change. I will be able to go on hikes with my spouse without feeling like I'm going to die going up a hill. I can keep up with my son. I will be able to stand on my feet without having them swell up at the end of the day. I know that this surgery could potentially lengthen my life, but I am still scared. And I think as rational human beings, this is normal. Because we have researched this enough to know what could go wrong. But we know that this is still our best option for a better future. PS. I also projectile vomit with barium, but there has to be something else they can give us right?
  5. My dr. calls for two doses of Milk of Mag. the day before surgery. By that time I will have been on full liquids ten days, clear three, so my question is... why the milk of mag? Is it for those who've cheated? Because if you've had no solids for 14 days, there should be nothing to flush out right?
  6. I got celebrate bariatric vitamins, found them online. I got the cherry tart flavor, it tastes like a sweet tart. Deliscious

    Nesting before surgery

That's the perfect description. lol. I was just thinking an early spring cleaning, but yes nesting sounds right. I'm due to start my preop diet Thursday, so my goal is to deep clean every room by wednesday, so it'll all be done while I have the energy to do it.
  10. Ok. My doctor was not specific at all on the diet except to say that I should be on full liquids for ten days, clear for 4 before surgery. I was under the impression that full liquids were puddings, any kind of strained soup, milk, etc. I was even thinking possibly a jamba juice. Another girl who has a different surgeon, told me her surgeon said no milk, and no protein during clear liquids stage(which made NO sense to me, I already stocked up on Isopure clear proteins for this stage). Please let me know what your surgeons considered full liquids, and whether or not isopure clear protein was allowed in clear liquid stage. My liquids stage doesn't start til thursday, and I will call the surgeon Monday or Tuesday, but I was hoping to hear your experiences. Thank you!! Sarah

    Question

So, I've been unemployed while going to school. I just got my surgery date a week or two ago, but I applied for a job before that. I had the interview yesterday. I got a call today that they intend on hiring me and putting me to work this weekend. I know that I can't perform some of the job functions (I'd be a home health CNA) after surgery. So how do I tell them this? I don't want to tell them it's an elective surgery, because they'll just say cancel it and work. Can I lie and say gallbladder or something? What other abdominal surgeries have roughly the same recovery time?

    Question

Thanks for your responses. I did tell them about the surgery today. They did ask what type, and I told them. They are hiring me anyway, I start Monday!!

    Question

I don't know much about the company. I'm hoping they'll still hire me even knowing that I'll be having surgery and have to take time off so soon after starting. I just feel that I shouldn't have to tell them the exact procedure I'm having. Thank you for your reply.

  15. I currently have a very heavy cycle, with pains at ovulation. I was wondering if any others had these issues if they were cleared up when they lost the weight? If so that might become an amazing unexpected side affect of the sleeve.

    Will I look OLD?

I'm 22, and I think that I might actually look my age after I've lost the weight. Right now, no one believes I'm 22 without seeing my license, people say I look 25 or 26. I'm definately looking forward to looking my age again

    Vitamins

Has anyone heard of the bariatric fusion chewable multivitamins? I'm looking for an inexpensive vitamin that will be ok for after surgery. I'm also thinking that if I get this kind, then would I need anything else? Here's the nutritional link:http://www.bariatricchoice.com/bariatric-fusion-gastric-bypass-vitamins-supplements.html
  22. So, I had my psych consult last Wednesday, and it didn't go so well. She implied that I am definately not serious enough about this surgery since I haven't lost weight on my "diet." I am serious, I just have a really hard time losing (weight unless I'm at like 900 calories), while I'm on birth control pills. I've also had to switch pills at least twice during the 12 weeks I've been on my diet. I really hope that this doesn't mean that I can't have the surgery.

    Weight loss before surgery?

I"m with Kaiser in Bakersfield,CA, and they want you to lose 10% of your bodyweight on your own(in 12 wks) before having the surgery. To them, this proves you're serious about the lifestyle changes you are going to have to make. I have changed my lifestyle, but not lost weight, and now I don't know if they'll approve my surgery or not. It seems silly to me too. Obviously if I could lose weight on my own, I would and not spend the money to have surgery.
  24. I told her I've kept at the calorie count recommended. I no longer eat fast food. I don't even allow chips or chocolate in my home. I've made HUGE changes, but my weight just isn't coming off. I've lost a few inches, but no difference on the scale.
