I have not had any problems except extreme Gas. I am taking gas x, walking and drinking Water. How long does this last. Also, how do you take Your pain meds lortab? Spelling. If you are on Clear Liquids. Thanks

I find it odd that some must do a liquid diet befre the lap band and others do not have to do one. I wonder what its based on. I am a self pay and my bmi is slightly lower than what the guidelines require but trust me I am obese. I think it is just my doctor. He has his reasons why he doesn't require it, but I just find this odd that so many doctors require this.

Has anyone else gotten banded and it was enough to help them loose weight. I don't know why I am feeling this way. Talk to me guys. Yes, I do have fears of vomiting maybe that's why I am convincing myself of this. I just feel having the band in place will be enough. If this does work is this ok? Thanks

My doctor is world recognized for being one of the best. He has not required anything from me. Has this happened to anyone else?

Thank you for your honesty. You see I was always one of the pretty ones but struggled with my weight to stay at that acceptable weight. I lost the battle recently and I do not like this feeling. I am a self pay and not what most people would deem as requiring wls, but my doctor and I know the truth and this is an option for me so that I do not tilt more toward morbid obesity. I too am tall and carry my weight or should I say I dress to flatter my fat. But I am ready to make the change and go back to that place we both know exist only to the thinner people. Thanks

Generally, you will have a lot more options when you are at a healthy weight. Ask yourself if you would be more attracted to a fit person or somebody morbidly obese. It is human nature or maybe just nature that we seek out the most fit folks to reproduce with.
For me, I'm a tall dude at 6' 3" so I carry my extra weight better than most. I've noticed in the past that my social world doesn't open up unless I'm below a certain weight. In 2003, I weighed 380 lbs. with my ideal weight being around 220. I went on low carbs for two years and got down to 298. As soon as my weight got below about 300 lbs., I ceased to be invisible to women in bars. It was like a light switch had been turned on. I wasn't a "10" but any stretch but at least some percentage of the opposite sex now deemed me viable. Pretty much everybody treated me better. I hadn't realized how people had been treating me until I dropped the weight. Of course, it didn't stay gone and now I'm back up to 360 or so and my social scene is a solo effort yet again.
You may have to shed far more weight to FEEL deserving of affection from very attractive people than you will to actually get the affection of very attractive people. When I got down to 'only' 80 lbs. overweight, the best looking girl I've ever seen was into me. It became crystal clear only later and at the time it wasn't even a possibility in my mind at the time because of my self image issues (and I was 13 years older and though she was out of my league). So, do your best to adjust your mental game to your new body image as quickly as possible. I sure wish I had.

Can salads go down pretty good. Does anyone out there have an issue with salads. Minus croutons of course. Are there any foods that are usually in a salad I should avoid. I am afraid of vomiting. Thanks

Thank you so much for remembering to come back and give back. I am similar to you and I look forward to getting a grip on my life and food issues. I am self pay and I know this will change my life for the better. Good luck and congrtas....post some photos if you feel comfortable with that...

How did your new mate accept the lap band decision to loose weight.

Thank you for your response.

My question is what is the life expectancy of the lap band? Let's say all goes well. Is there a requirement to replace the band at 10 years or 15 or 20? Or is this not a requirement? Just wondering about the life of a band. Thanks

I am interested in knowing what products to use to reduce the scar appearance. I was told It would heal to the size of a small freckle. I do not keloid but I am concerned about what I should do to minimize the scar. I bought some products in anticipation but any information would be helpful.
Thanks

I understand about pain relievers. Are there any other pills a banded patient should avoid. I am asthmatic and was given a prs for steroids today. I would only need the steriods for 6 days if i take them. I have opted for an inhaler. Are steroids ok for banded patients. Is the only concern pain killers what about arthritic meds such as anti inflammatory. I am not a big pill person but I an concerned. I am scheduled for next week and I bought a pill crusher, the one used by pharmacist, for any pills I may need after being banded. Any input will help. I am sure I will have a few questions this weekend before my surgery on Wednesday. Thanks
had lapband today 4/13/11
