Republicans didn't read the bill because it was too long. Like some of you who don't read CM's posts.
-
Ahem, Clinton left us in the black. It was Republican spending that put us in the shape we're in by cutting taxes while increasing spending at the same time.

This video is an awful example of the case for conservatism. LiveLeak stuff is extremist nonsense. In all seriousness I'd like to know what you think in your own words. I'd value that more than this yo yo's video.

CM, Shuster's article is right on! Patty, self reliance is a good thing and a liberal, Bill Clinton, addressed this through welfare reform. Liberals don't desire to throw money at people who are able to provide for themselves. In fact, many social programs are aimed at providing education and job training to help people be productive members of our society. But it's a cruel society that turns it's back on those truly in need and adopts an every man for himself attitude. When the rich and powerful get too greedy it hurts us all, not just poor people. Our economy and environment have suffered greatly because of unbridled greed and regulation is needed as a check and balance. I've worked hard all my life to save money for my retirment. I lost a third of the value of my 401K because of Wall Street greed that caused the near collapse of our economy, which is a hell of a lot less than the taxes I've paid toward welfare! Believe me the social cost of greed is a lot greater than that of sloth. -

I agree with you completely that any "individual" can be a bad person. Thanks for pointing this out. However, the people who tend to be the most guilty of the things I'm critical of would classify themselves as conservative. Based on the definitions of liberal and conservative I believe in liberal ideals. I only "rant" when liberals, our government, people of color and lower economic status, and Obama are blasted by conservative posters for doing so much harm. I happen to believe it's conservative politics that do harm. -
Patty, you say my fears are invalid? I'll follow up on my post with some examples: One of the ironies related to the quote above is that is it conservatives who are trying to take away our freedom. They want to regulate our consentual adult sex lives [not giving equal rights to gays and lesbians and dishonorably discharging patriotic servicemen and women], women's bodies [trying to make it illegal for a woman to choose to terminate a pregnancy], and scientific progress that could lead to saving lives [trying to make stem cell research illegal.] This is what I fear: that a conservative majority would change laws that result in us losing our basic freedoms because of the bible. Separation of church and state has already been discussed so I won't go there -- but you get my point. [everything in the paragraph above is because of the bible] This is what I fear: that conservatives are going to remove books and curriculums that offer other points of view besides the white Christian supremacy and that our children will grow up ignorant and be unable to survive in a modern complex society and economy. [books have been removed from Texas schools, hispanic studies are being removed from Arizona schools, creationism is being taught instead of science in some schools] This is what I fear: that certain groups that support conservative values like white supremicists, KKK, homophobes, pro-lifers and other racists and religious zealots are going to assault and murder people who aren't like them. Republicans pander to these groups just to get their votes and that lends validation to them. [they've assaulted gays and lesbians blacks, hispanics, and native americans; they murdered a liberal talk show host; the tea party has damaged property; pro-lifers have murdered doctors and bombed clinics; they've committed domestic terrorism ala T. McV; religious and anti-government cults are stockpiling weapons illegally and firing on law enforcement officials and have mass murdered their cult members ala Koresh/J. Jones and others] This is what I fear: that the right wing media stirs up conservatives to the point where they feel violence is justified. It's all just a show to get advertising dollars but uniformed and uneducated people believe it. [just listen to right wing talk radio -- the hate, anger, and white supremacy being expressed, to the point of advocating overthrow of the government and people packing weapons to democratic events to intimidate people ] Anybody else have more examples?

And you think your liberal friends are any different? ----------------------------------------------------------- Most definitely. Liberals are not racist, don't commit hate crimes, believe in helping those less fortunate, believe in government being involved with protecting our society from haters and greed, don't believe in the supremacy of one religion over another. They are not closed minded and intolerant and opposed to trying new ideas and working across party lines. -------------------------------------------------- In politics, all we have to choose from is the lesser of two evils. This is why I choose the conservatives, whether he lives up to his moral convictions or not, because it is the better choice. Conservative nominees are more likely to vote in my preference because they claim to believe as I do. Whether they do or not is between them and God. ------------------------------------------------------- Patty, your politics and your religion are at odds with each other. Do you think Jesus was a liberal or a conservative? Didn't he throw the money changers out of the temple? Didn't he comfort the poor and the sick? Didn't he preach love and tolerance? -

Also, all believer's in Jesus have a "free passport" into heaven. (That's a different way of saying it, but it's still true none the less.) All it takes is the faith to believe. Once a person has that, they recognize their sinfulness and confess it, then they ask God to make them a part of his family and He does. It's that simple. They may now enter into Heaven when they die without condemnation. ------------------------------------------------------ The problem with this premise is many conservatives don't recognize their sin or confess it. Instead, they continually lie, cheat and steal to gain political power and wealth. They destroy the earth given to you by your creator just to make money. They convince you to buy products that are not nutricious and contain harmful chemicals just to make money. They pit neighbor against neighbor so they make money off of their radio shows. They pay lobbyists to bribe our leaders into making bad decisions. Many have hate in their hearts toward people of color and use them as scapegoats for complex problems they can't easily solve. They condem others for not living the Christian principles but won't live that way themselves. The fact is many of us are sick of being taken advantage of by powerful wealthy conservatives. We're tired of all the lies they tell to manipulate us. We're tired of them making us and our children unhealthy with their products. We're tired of them robbing us and our children of healthy forests, rivers, oceans and air. We're tired of them trying to stir up and manipulate the uninformed just to get re-elected. We're tired of them not having the wisdom and courage to work with liberals to find solutions to the real problems facing our nation. Yes, everyone sins from time to time, but you can't live your life so selfishly and dishonestly and have no remorse and get away with it. If you are fair, generous and honest, only then do you truly believe. Come judgement day it will be known what's in your heart and that free passport may just get stamped "invalid." -

You know, Cleo's, it's very difficult to talk with people who are soooo dense. Perhaps you resort to personal insults because you're frustrated. It's difficult to justify positions based on misinformation. I stress that, between a Christian's sin and an unbeliever's sin is that one is going to be forgiven when they face the judgement after their life is over, and one is not. Period. To me, one of the worst things is hypocracy. Jesus said "Love they neighbor as you would thyself." He believed in loving those less fortunate and lifting people up. If we are a Christian nation why don't conservatives practice what they preach? No one has a free passport to heaven if they don't truly believe. Exclamation point. -

Again the problem isnt Mexicans being here legally, its the illegals who come here and "steal jobs", the scumbag employers know they can pay them alot less than what an American citizen would command and not have to pay taxes on these people, thats the problem. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- As I see it the problem is because folks are mad at the illegals they're taking it out on Mexican-Americans too. I agree on the scumbag employers. Migrant farmworkers are employed at lower than minimum wage and are sprayed with pesticides, have poor housing and sanitation, poor diets and so forth while farm owners are profiting. Fact is Congress needs get to work on immigration so Americans aren't pitted against each other out of frustration. -

Conservatives are far more intelligent than liberals. What you feel is something that conservatives "fear" is actually conservatives going along with their moral convictions. ---------------------------------------------------- Bible says: Thou shalt not kill. Conservative born again Bush started a war against Iraq that caused the death of thousands of American soldiers and Iraqi citizens. His state of Texas has the highest kill rate of prisoners in the US. Bible says: Thou shalt not commit adultry. The news is continually full of conservative politicians and religious leaders who get caught having gay sex, having sex with prostitutes, cheating on their wives, molesting children, and on and on. Just google "republican scandals" for a list of these incidents a mile long. Bible says: Thou shalt not steal. Rich conservative Wall Street businessman lie and cheat investors, consumers, and employees and nearly bankrupted the world because of their greed. I wouldn't call it intelligence but many conservative political and religious leaders are certainly shrewd and quite skilled at lieing, cheating, stealing, murdering, and sexual indiscretions. They're using you and you're falling for it. Now that's not very smart! -
from the Washington Post: Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. has said that Arizona's tough new immigration law could drive a wedge between police and immigrant communities. He has expressed concerns it could lead to racial profiling, and he has made it clear that his Justice Department is considering a lawsuit to block the legislation from taking effect. On Thursday Rep. Ted Poe (R-Tex.) at a House Judiciary Committee, asked Holder, "Have you read the Arizona law?" Holder responded that he had not yet thoroughly read it but his staff was in the process of reviewing it. Holder said he based his comments about the legislation on reading news reports, watching television and talking to Justice Department lawyers who are reviewing it. "I've not reached any conclusions as yet" about the law's constitutionality." Holder's spokesman, Matthew Miller, said Friday that his boss "has been thoroughly briefed on the law, which has already been amended since the initial version passed, and has heard concerns from a range of law enforcement and community officials. He and the Department will continue to review it in detail to determine what options are available to the federal government." _______________________________________________ In my opinion Holder got caught with his pants down. Before threatening a lawsuit he should have read it. That doesn't mean I think the "law" is OK, just that he should have waited until it was fully investigated before saying too much. By the way, LiveLeak is a racist site. Listen to the radio broadcasts and it will give you the chills.

its sad you actually support this.... nothing like boycotting fellow LEGAL AMERICAN TAX PAYERS for law breaking illegals. _________________________________________ Chris, I've said repeatedly on this thread that I don't support illegal immigration. I'll say it again, "I don't support illegal immigration." I'm against racism. These new laws are racist because they adversely affect Mexican-Americans. Public School Superintendent Horne's actions against ethnic studies is a case in point. The murder of a rancher by an illegal precipitating sweeping legislation that is anti-hispanic is another example. I think what's happening is this: People are lumping Mexican-Americans and illegals into one group -- the bad "brown" people. That's racism. I'll leave you with this example: When referring to the kids involved in the flag t-shirt incident another poster referred to the flag wearers as the "American" boys to differentiate between Americans and hispanics. Did he know that the hispanic kids weren't Americans? No! Arizona has a history of racist politics. That's why they are being boycotted, not because everyone is for illegal immigration. -

Arizona was the only western state to secede from the Union and join the confederacy. Arizona fought recognition of MLK day being a federal holiday. A boycott of Arizona forced the state to concede. Arizona has a history of racism. American's don't tolerate racism and it's against the law. Arizonan's need to come out from under their white sheets and join the rest of civilized Americans or they will pay a huge social and economic price. -

Cities that have approved boycotts of Arizona:  Boston St. Paul, Minn. Oakland San Diego West Hollywood El Pasa city and country Boulder, Colo. Los Angeles San Francisco under consideration is Dallas and Milwaukee Denver Public School In fact, Arizona is hiring a firm to "re-brand" Arizona because it's starting to lose money because of it's racists. It's being shunned by businesses, governments, colleges and tourists. Real economic losses will be felt by its citizens for supporting these measures. What goes around comes around. -

We briefly interupt this discussion to report that Arizona has just passed a law that prohibits frying beans more than once. (Bill Maher) Arizona's governor stated this has nothing to do with racism toward hispanics and is just a measure necessary to ensure the purity of beans. -

Come on now -- it's all over the news. He said exactly what he meant. Cleo's post has been substantiated more than once. He said that studying hispanic history and culture is insighting hispanic students to be anti-American. (Hence the anti-american part of the bill.) Is this clicking yet? He cites two books in particular that were used as part of the curriculum. He got in a huge argument with Delores Huerta, former associate of Caesar Chavez, who gave a speech at the school. He's been in a royal pissing match with the Ethnic Studies Department for a long time. He was able to deliver a death blow to the Department by riding the current wave anti-hispanic sentiment. It's all about fear! Fear of there being more brown people than white people. Fear of them gaining political and economic clout as a result. Fear that they'll treat whites the way whites have treated them. It's the same fear the KKK has of blacks. -

I don't think you're reading ariscus. Please see my post directly quoting the Arizona Sup. of Schools. He admits the purpose is to get rid of the Ethinic Studies program in Tucson. He helped write the bill. ---------------------------------------------------- What's really behind HB 2281? From the Washington Post and Los Angeles Times: The bill, HB 2281, would ban schools from teaching classes that are designed for students of a particular ethnic group, promote resentment or advocate ethnic solidarity over treating pupils as individuals. "The bill was written to target the Chicano or Mexican American studies program in the Tucson school system," said state Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Horne in an interview with the Los Angeles Times. Horne has been trying to end the Tucson's Ethinic Studies Departments for years, saying it divides students by race and promotes resentment. Horne, a former lawyer who is running for state attorney general and who wrote part of the law, describes the Ethinic Studies program as "promoting ethnic chauvinism." -

Don't forget what we did to Japanese Americans during WWII. People are fearful. They always look for a scapegoat. In Arizona crime and unemployment is being blamed on hispanics. Even though crime statistics say otherwise and white people wouldn't dream of taking some of the low paying jobs occupied by hispanics, Arizonans are getting hysterical. They are becoming a racist state. People hate to admit to being racist so they look for any excuse to justify it. -

I'm now an official member of the PB and Slime Club. I had been thinking all this time how lucky I was that I've had no issues with this, but this week I've had problems every day. I haven't had a fill since 4/23 so nothing has changed recently. I think it's from eating things that are just not moist enough (yams, almonds, smoked salmon.) I get pain in my esophagus, then sudden nausea, then slime (saliva) then it's get to the toilet fast time. :w00t: I'm going to eat soft foods for a couple days, really be conscious of chewing well, and eat very slowly, and hopefully this will all subside.
