    Goal weight

My doctor and I have never discussed what my goal weight should be. I plan on speaking to him about it at my next appointment though because I am really close to the goal weight I set for myself. I am 5'5" and initially wanted to weigh 140, which would put my BMI at 23, but I think I may want to lower my goal a little. When I set the goal at 140, I honestly thought I would never get there so it seemed low to me at that time, but now that I am so close, it seems very obtainable. I guess I'll wait and see what my doctor says Good luck to you on your journey!!!
  2. I am 9 months post op and still don't experience hunger I felt absolutely no hunger for about 5-6 months, then have only felt hunger pains maybe 6 times since then. I don't know why some of us experience different hunger issues than others, maybe it has to do with how the surgeon places the band. Good luck on your journey!!!
  3. I was banded on a Monday morning and returned to classes the following Monday. It was Thanksgiving break for us so I only missed 1 day of classes. Everyone has a different experience and I was 33 at the time so I needed those extra couple of days. Be careful about how heavy your backpack is, leave your books in the car and make several trips, the walking actually feels pretty good about then. My only issue was sitting for more than an hour. I spoke with my instructors ahead of time that I may have needed to stand at the back of the room (I didn't need to) but it's good to be prepared. Good luck with your journey!!!

    Let's bring Nebraska back!

What part of Nebraska are you from? I'm from western Nebraska and was banded November 29, 2011. I have had a great experience and have been pretty successful with my weight loss. I have been fortunate to not have had any complications and would do this all over again in a heartbeat! My 17 year old daughter has just started her 6 month supervised diet so she can be banded hopefully in January. I'm glad you started this thread and I hope more people post

    Too many Lap Band fills?

I still go to the doctor every month and I am almost 9 months post op. I am filled to a little less than 5ccs, and have gotten a fill almost every month (except maybe 2). I've gotten tiny fills of about .25 for the last 4 months or so, just enough to compensate for the loss of my fad pad. Good luck to you!!!
  6. I was so excited to see this thread because I was banded November 29, 2010 at the age of 33, and we have just started my 17 year old daughter's 6 months supervised diet that is required by our insurance. I called my insurance to see if my daughter will have to follow the same steps as I did and was thrilled to find out that the requirements have not changed. I was approved because of my co-morbidities and because of my daughter's higher BMI, she does not need to have any. I hope for both of you that your insurance will pay for both of you and you can go on this journey together. Good luck to both of you on your journey!!!!
  7. I am 8 1/2 months post op and I still have pain when I sleep on my port side once in awhile. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason why it sometimes hurts more than others. I hope it gets better for you

    PMS

I have that same problem. I'm glad to know that I am not the only one. I look at it this way though, as opposed to preband, when I would've had a bag of corn chips, now I have a handful. I wouldn't feel completely guilty if I were you, just remember it's only a couple days a month

    No appetite at all

I am 8 months post op and for the first 5-6 months I had absolutely no hunger, and now only rarely get hungry. There is nothing wrong with not having hunger, just like JNGirl32 said, make sure you are getting enough protein, nutrients, and water. Good luck!!!

    Egg Drop soup?

My doctor allowed me to eat mushies about a week post op and solids 2 weeks post op, so I was able to eat egg drop soup during my mushies stage. I was craving it like crazy as well, I think because it's high in protein. If you are allowed mushies I'm sure you could handle it
  11. Thank you for the tracking calories idea, I will try that. Yes the concert was great!!!
  12. I have been doing great losing weight up to this last 2 months. I have done it pretty easily without counting calories, protein or really even exercising. I'm frustrated that I'm within 20 pounds or so of goal and only have lost maybe 5 pounds in the last 2 months, so I'm biting the bullet and finally going to start exercising. I needed to anyway because my thighs are kinda jiggly I thought I couldn't exercise because I was too lazy, but I went to Cheyenne Frontier Days this last weekend to see Jason Aldean, and we probably walked 10miles through the weekend. Plus we sat in the nosebleed section and went up and down about 15 times. I felt so good after the weekend that I decided I'm physically ready to do this. I live a quarter mile from the Scotts Bluff National Monument which is full of great hiking trails. My favorite is the Saddle Rock trail which goes to the top. I haven't hiked the trail for years because it is classified as strenuous. It is 1.6 miles up and 1.6 miles down and the summit is 435 feet high, so it is a leg burner up and a calorie burner down. I'm feeling great doing this and hope it gives other people encouragement to start exercising. Good luck to everyone!!!
  13. Trish is right, I've discussed it with my surgeon. I have had great restriction 3 different times now and have to get tiny fills to compensate for the fat pad shrinking. It usually only takes about .25 cc's and I'm good for a couple months. Eventually it will even out and the fat pad should be gone, so restriction will stay longer. Good luck to you
  14. I was banded November 29, 2011. I am down a little over 80 pounds with no change in June I know what I was doing though and have done a 2 day liquid diet to start fresh. That has gotten me on track a couple other times when I started eating carbs again. I do low to no carb/calories, but am not very good with exercising. I walk a mile or so when I have time, but right now I am doing schoolwork about 50 hours a week, work 20 hours a week and take care of my family and my dad with Alzheimers as well......so time is an issue. Good luck to everyone!!!

    period right after band?!?!

I started a week early about a week post op as well. For the first 4 or 5 periods after surgery they were awful!!! Heavy and terrible cramps, I told myself that if it happened one more month I was going to call my gyn, and the next month it was back to normal. I remembered to ask my surgeon's nurse about it last month at my monthly appointment and she said it is usually due to the fact that your body has to adjust the amount of hormones you are producing. It is used to producing hormones for, in my case, a 244 pound person, so it takes time to adjust and your periods can be abnormal for quite awhile until you are at a steady weight. Good luck on your journey

    Concerned

It looks like you were just banded a couple of days ago? For the first five days or so post op I was only allowed to drink a medicine cup of liquids every fifteen minutes. The hospital provided me with half a dozen of the cups but they are just like children size medicine cups. I think they were equal to about one ounce. After those five days I was allowed to sip from the water bottle, or broth cup or whatever, and start my chewable vitamins. If you aren't already drinking like this, you might try it. Good luck!!!

    85 lbs in 1 year??

I've lost 80 plus pounds in 7 months, all of it post surgery. I would recommend that you set mini goals though. I started at 244 and my first goal was to get below 200, then after that I wanted to fit into a pair of jeans I hadn't worn for 2 years, which put me at around 190. After I went through all the clothes in my closet and had to start buying clothes, I would buy them so they fit, but were a little snug so I had incentive to lose more Good luck to you and go at it 1 pound at a time!!!

    Hows your sex life?

Pre-band, it was not so good, maybe once a month if that. I figured a lot of it had to do with my weight and we have been married for 13 years so I chalked it up to that. Now saying that....post band, it is awesome!!! About a week after surgery we started having relations about 4 times a week and now 7 months post op, we have it 7-10 times a week. It's spontaneous and exciting Good luck to you on your journey!
  19. My husband came home from work in a not so great mood today. He always texts me on his breaks, and when he did today, I could tell he wasn't in a great mood. When he got home I asked him if he was ok, and he told me what was bugging him. Yesterday I ran into a guy he works with (who he doesn't really like too well) and talked to him for a couple minutes while we were waiting for our coffees. Apparently today at work this guy goes up to my husband and tells him he saw me, so my husband was like, oh ya, that's nice. This guy goes on to tell my husband that he had to try hard not to look at me. My husband (a little baffled) asked him why? The guy proceeds to tell him that I am looking really good and he was thinking of doing things to me that he shouldn't. Who tells someone's husband that!!!! I mean, really? I think it bothered him so much because this guy isn't one of his favorite people. Some of his friends have made comments similar to that, and it didn't bother him as much. I mentioned that to him, and he said that he doesn't like guys looking at me all the time now. I just had to tell him that I love him, and to think of it this way, they can look....but only he can touch
  20. I'm familiar with aperger's syndrome as my nephew has it. This guy doesn't have any signs of having it. He says thing to get a rise out of people, he always has
  21. I too, hated pictures. I wouldn't allow photos to be taken of me, and if my kids snuck one in, I would delete it. Four days before my surgery was Thanksgiving and my husband's family was snapping pictures like crazy, and I couldn't delete them off of their cameras I am now thankful that they took them because that was my starting point, and now when I look back, I can really see a change. My only regret is not taking a picture every month to document my progress, time just flies by and I kept forgetting. Good luck to everyone on your journeys

    Treating myself

I have treated myself with some new clothes, and a new tattoo. I just got it yesterday, 7 months post op. I had told myself I would get one when I got to my halfway goal, but it came and went pretty quickly, but I finally got it

    Whats on YOUR skinny list?!!?

I think this is a great topic!!! I am 7 months post op and have been losing pretty steadily. Here is my skinny list including some of the things I've already accomplished. 1. Cross my legs....check 2. Not be embarrassed to shop with my skinny friend....check 3. Fit into the perfect size 7 jeans again....I'm in a 10 now 4. Leave the lights on during alone time with my husband ....check 5. Get my blood pressure under control.....check 6. Have energy to walk miles without huffing and puffing.....check 7. Go horseback riding 8. Go skydiving 9. Go cliff jumping....just went Friday, and it was amazing!!!! 10.Feel attractive again....check Good luck to everyone on their lists. Every time you get to check an item off, remember you are totally worth it and you worked hard to get there!!!
  24. Thanks for male input You could be right. He has made comments before about my weight loss, a lot of people have asked my husband about it, but what he said yesterday went too far. I blame it on the fact that they work for the railroad, and sometimes some of them can be pretty raunchy
  25. Thanks everyone!!! That guy is a bit of a weirdo and apparently socially awkward My husband usually does like the compliments I get, but I think when it came from someone who he doesn't like (part of why he doesn't like him is because he thinks he perverted) it sent him over the edge. I too am proud of him for keeping his cool and not going off on him. He did clarify to me also that it bothered him because he doesn't like the thought of "that pervert" thinking about me sexually.
