    Can You Feel The Port?

Mine, and I think most are, is right under the skin. I think it is sewn on top of the mucsle. I have always been able to feel mine. I was worried before I had surgery that it would bother me and creep me out, but it doesn't

    Nausea

I have some anti nausea medicine on hand, I think it is promethazine. I was sick last fall and mentioned my naseau and that I have lapband to the Urgent Care doc and they didn't hesitate a second and told me to take it to prevent throwing up. I would definately call your doc for something to make you feel better. Just beware and don't take it if you have to go anywhere.....it knocks me out cold Good luck!

    Taking Communion?

In our church we use wafers, except for on Maundy Thursday, but it didn't bother me. If you are worried, speak with your pastor and ask for a private communion for the first time and every time you have a fill from now on. Hopefully he/she will understand and grant that wish, I know mine would be completely understanding of it Good luck!

    Confused

I had steady weight loss from the start. I didn't have any pre op diet to do, so all my weight loss is post op. I lost very steady and signifigantly and hit goal weight about nine months post op. I then lowered my goal weight and hit that about one year post op. I then lost a little more which was probably a bit too much for my body frame, I got down to 130 and my friends and family said I looked ill, so I've since then gained about 5 lbs and feel great. I've had a dozen fills and a couple unfills since one month post op and still am trying to find proper restriction. I have been fortunate that I have had pratically no hunger since being banded, so I never had bandster hell or any hunger issues. Good luck to you on your journey!
  5. In pre-op I was given a dose, actually two doses, of something to relax me......and oh boy did it. I was feeling so loopy I had a hard time schoochin my bum onto the operating table lol. After I got on the table, they started to strap me in, and put a mask over my mouth and nose. They then told me to count backwards from ten, I have had a few surgeries, and I never get past ten and I'm out. I'm sure anesthesia has improved greatly over the last thirty years, but like everyone else said, mention your past problem when you do your pre-op. Good luck to you!!!

    Capsules

I always check with the doctor when I get a script if I can take it. I was just perscribed a capsule and a large pill for upper back problems, and it is ok to take them. Just drink a lot of water with it to wash it through your band. Good luck and I hope you feel better

    Boney Butt

I feel your pain....pun totally intended I have early arthritis and a compressed disc in my lower back as well, so sometimes it can be very painful. I am going to try the stair stepper or just run up and down the local stadium. I've always had a larger derrier, so it feels weird to be bony down there. It is kind of nice to sit on my hubbies lap and him say "Get your bony bum off me!"

One Week Post Op And Confused

Thank you dhales To kbandie22, I was banded 14 months ago and have many small fills and an unfill. I am not sure how much I have in my band for sure, I lost track, but maybe around 6 or 7ccs and think I have pretty good restriction. Good luck to all of you!!

    Bedding Hotties.

I am enjoying reading everyone's different ideas of what a 10 is. I know guys that are big and not so big that I think are equally a 10. I agree that for most people, it does come down to the person's confidence level. I now weigh the same as I did when I was in my late teens and early twenties (finally) and when I was younger I would get 2nd looks and attention, but now I get them a lot more. My husband's friends and coworkers make comments to him and myself, about me, and my girls and husband tell me that guys flirt with me all the time. I guess I've been married so long I don't even notice it lol. I personally don't see it and don't have the confidence. I had a friend that hasn't seen me in awhile standing behind me, whistling at me, and I didn't even turn around because I figured there was no way the whistle was for me So don't fall into my lack of confidence trap and you will always be a 10

One Week Post Op And Confused

My surgeon had a very quick recovery diet. I had 3 days of liquids, and 3 days of mushies, then on to normal food as tolerated. I had no issues, I just chewed very well and ate very little. He also gave me instructions to not eat if I wasn't hungry......and I never was and still rarely am hungry, so I didn't eat much. If I had hunger I probably could have eaten more, and they may cause problems, so just chew well, eat slow and don't over eat. Good luck to you on your journey!!!

    5 Hour Energy?

I drink coffee to get my daily caffine, but there are times when my 1-2 cups a day is not enough. I have used 5 Hour energy a few times when I need a pick me up in the afternoon. I only used 1/2 a bottle at a time and it seemed to be just right. I do make sure to drink more than enough water so I don't get dehydrated I have also tried Mio Energy. You just add a squirt to your water and it works great too. Good luck, and just get more sleep already

    Sex

I didn't even think to ask my doctor, and didn't even think about it being an issue until I saw someone post the question on here. Since I didn't ask, I just went with how I felt, for me that was four days post op. Everything was fine, I just would be careful of having any weight on your incisions.

    What Is Your Signal?

I don't rally have a "full" signal, but my "I've gone one step too far" signal is pain in my right shoulder/upper back. Not sure why it's my right side and not my left as most people feel it in their left. I've always been different I guess.
  17. It is very common to have a hiatal hernia repair while getting your band. I had a repair when I had my surgery Nov. 2010 as well. My surgeon said it was a severly bad one. I have had previous surgeries for different things, and every time I have surgery, the recovery gets a little more painful. The gas and shoulder pain was unbearable for me for about 4 days post op. What you are feeling is probably normal, walking does help. Hang in there, it will get better, but if you are worried, it never hurts to call your doctor's office. Good luck to you on your journey

    Port Pain?

I am 15 months and 115 pounds post op and I still get port pain sometimes. It depends on how much I've eaten, what I've eaten, how much activity I've done and different positions I've been in. Postions meaning sitting all day, over reaching, or standing all day. If the skin around your port becomes red and or hot, and you suddenly have no restriction, then you should call your doctor asap. Good luck to you on your journey!
  19. You may need a slight unfill, but even with regular BM's, you may still be constipated. This happens to my daughter quite frequently. She goes daily, but got very ill, bloated, stomach pain, vomitting and so on, so we took her to the doctor and they did an xray and saw a partial blockage. I guess this can happen sometimes, so I would check with your doc. Good luck!!!

    Confused :(

I checked your profile stats, and we are almost identical. I was banded November of 2010, started at 244 and am 5'5". I have been hovering around130, give or take five pounds here and there. When I got to 135ish, people started telling me I looked anorexic and to start eating. I have a hard time with this, because I lose in my mid section and face, but my derrier and my thighs, to me, are still too big. I agree that it is hard to think of the scale moving up, and I agree that maybe seeing a psychologist would be a good idea. Good luck to you on your journey!

    Extra Skin

My doctor said the same as yours, being young will help a lot with loose skin, and exercise is extremely important. Having said that, I am below goal weight, fifteen months post op, and just last week started exercising. I have almost no excess skin and have already noticed a big difference from exercising only one week. Good luck to you on your journey!!!

    Dr Oz Show On Wed

I did not see the show, but here is my two cents for what it's worth I am easily hypnotised and have been a few times. On a couple of these occasions it was for fun, and entertainment. The other time was for weight loss. I was desperate to lose weight and this was before lapband was well known. I do believe hypnosis works for some things, but it did not work for weight loss, and I would never trust it to get a "pain free" root canal

    Body Dysmorphia

I have such a similar story as many of you. When I was in high school and college (the 1st time ), I was 125 pounds and 5'5". People told me I looked ill and needed to gain weight, to me this was crazy, because 125 is the "ideal" weight for my height. I thought I looked similar to how I looked at my heaviest of 244. Years later, after starting my steady weight gain, I saw a photo of myself and was mortified. I looked awful, my eyes were sunken in, and I was a strange shade of grey. I told myself I would never allow myself to feel the way I felt when I was thinner. I gained weight for the next 20 some years and didn't think I looked horrible. I knew I should lose a few pounds, but it wasn't until seeing another photograph of myself that reality yet again hit me....I was huge. So here I am today, and have been losing "just 10 more pounds" for the last 25 pounds or so. I am steadily around 130 pounds and until a week ago, I wanted to lose "just 10 more pounds." A week ago my 14 year old daughter told me I looked really pale and my eyes looked funny. At that point I weighed about 126. That was my awakening, and I realize that I may never feel like I look thin. I have three teenage daughters, and I am terrifed that at least two of them have body dismorphic disorder. Maybe if I get them help now, they can overcome it. Good luck to everyone on your journey!!!

    Emotions

I had issues like that about five months post op, but I attribute mine to losing my mom, now I can cry at a puppy comercial. Your crying could be caused by hormone levels. The nurse practitioner at my surgeon's office (whos is a woman and banded) said that it can take awhile for our bodies to adjust to weight loss. She said that our bodies are still creating enough hormones for our heavier weights, and it takes awhile to even out. Also being fairly newly banded, you are making a huge physical and emotional change, it can be very hard on a person. Hang in there, hopefully it gets better, but if not, please don't hesitate to see someone. Good luck to you on your journey
  25. For the first couple of months post op I weighed myself daily. I now only weigh myself weekly, sometimes biweekly if I forget to weigh in first thing in the morning on weigh in day. I noticed early on that because of my low calorie intake, if I consume a couple hundred extra calories one day, the next I am up a pound or two, so I quit weighing everyday. Plus I am more in maintenance mode with less than ten pounds I'd still like to lose, but don't need to, so I am not as obsessed with ticking off the pounds anymore. Good luck to everyone on your journeys!!!
