  1. I'm working out 4 times per week for an hour, 80 grams of Protein per day, about 20 carbs per day and getting 64 to 80 oz's of Water. I did increase my calories 2 days last week to about 900 and my fat intake because I know from losing weight previously that if I don't get enough calories or fat that I stall. Once I did those things I lost one pound each day. I'm praying that this is the end of this stall. I will keep everyone posted and thank you all for your help!!! Smooches!!

  2. Nikki D u said a mouthful. If you don't get your health on track, you might not be around for your daughter or your husband. Selfish is if you didn't try to get yourself healthy....some people just need to sit back and be quiet because without the facts they really don't know.

Hi kayfreeatlast, Congrats and good luck on your upcoming surgery. I know what you are going through in regards to your husband. My husband is being supportive only because I've made my decision and I'm not changing my mind. I hated to be so harsh, but I told him he can either get on board with my decision or sit back and watch. This train is taking off either way!! Of course he'd prefer if I lost weight without surgery. He doesn't think I need it. However, he now understands that I need his support in order to make this transformation successful (after meeting my surgeon). My brother in law is giving me a hard time. He's trying very hard to prove his point that I don't need the surgery. He told me that I was being selfish. I told him, he is right about me being selfish. For the first time in a long time, I'm putting me first. I need to take care of me in order to take care of my daughter. If that's being selfish, then so be it.

  3. Hi All,

For those who hate the gym or can't get there, go to www.billyblanks.com and check out the DVD's.. I haven't been sleeved yet but have been working out with Billy and lost 40lbs on my own with these DVD's....click the links below to take you to the DVD's that I use.

    http://www.billyblanks.com/product/store/fitness/tone-sculpt-shape/sculpt+express.do

    http://www.billyblanks.com/product/store/fitness/fat+burn/turbo+charged+fat+burner.do

You will burn fat and tone and sculpt. Also, don't worry about keeping up his pace at first, go at your own pace so that way you are able to build up your strenth and stamina.

Also, another way to tone up those arms are to do a exercise I used to do in gym class many yrs ago. Stand with feet hip with apart and arms raised shoulder height with palms down. Turn your body to the right by using your waist only (which will then cause your arms to be one in front for you and one behind you), return to the start position and turn your body to the left. Do at least 10 reps to start and build your way up to higher reps. Your arms will be toned in no time!!!! Also, if you are concerned about your thighs, lay on your bed on either your right or left side (whichever side you prefer to start with) and put your legs together and depending on what side you are laying on lift the leg that is free in the air as high as it can go and return to the start position without having your feet or ankles touch. Do 10 reps and do the other side. Again, increase your reps once yout get stronger. This will tighten your outter & inner thighs, and shrink your hips and backside.

I'm not professing to be an exercise guru but these things have worked for me and my husband. I'm 275 lbs and in a very loose size 18 some 16's. At that weight I should be at least wearing a 22 or 24 but with the regimen above I have toned and tightened.

Hope this helps and many blessings to all of you!

  4. Hi Keshia and Mary from AZ.

I have also just started my journey. I had an assessment done on Monday, and their insurance specialist said I qualified and should be approved with no problem. I started out very very positively Sleeve, but in reading the packet I got at the doctor's office I'm wondering if I'm doing the right thing. Here's what I'm thinking:

Gastric Bypass--The weight would drop rapidly, but I really am scared of the dumping syndrome and I know I could stretch the stomach back out again

Lapband--I don't like the fact that there would be a foreign object in me at all times and a port for adjustments.

Sleeve--I like that it has fewer complications post-op, but I'm worried about feeling nauseous all the time

After January 1, when they reassess my insurance, I will go to see the surgeon, have my meeting with the nutritionist and exercise physiologist and my psych eval. I also have to get a clearance from my cardiologist (I have a congenital bicuspid aortic valve) and a letter from my PCP validating my weight and co-morbidities. Another two months of meetings, support groups, appointments, and I should be ready to have my stuff submitted to the insurance company by April 1. Then I guess the waiting game starts.

I'm both excited and terrified! But I am so sick of being this size and being limited by it.

Good luck to both of you! Let's keep in touch as the process continues.

    Hi There lkcraig316,

I started out thinking the band, the band!!!! But after some indepth research I ended up going with the sleeve. I didn't like the idea of the foreign object inside of me and the possibility of the line to the port breaking and poking me and the RNY I also didn't want the dumping or the malabsorbption problems. I think they all have something with them but I think the Sleeve was the best choice for me. I have read with all of the WLS that ppl are experiencing nausea but I think it's because of them not following the plan as they should.

I will definitely keep in touch. I will add you as a friend!

  5. Hi Keshia,

I am somewhat sharing the journey. I was scheduled for bypass after my tests, etc and I did more research deciding either sleeve or lap band. My insurance would cover lap band but not sleeve so I tried to convince myself to go that way. after seeing the doctor she agreed the sleeve would be ideal for me. SOOOOOO I am back to square one and my surgery date of Dec. 6th was cancelled. I am awaiting an appeal and or a change in policy. So I feel at square one BUT I am at peace with the decision. Also, I am brand new to this forum.

Did your first consult go well? Do you have a myriad of tests? I feel like I have been through the best physical possible after the doctors and tests I went through.

Are you excited, scared, or both?

    Take care,

    Mary

    Hi Mary,

Nice meeting you. I'm new here as well but I have been on the site researching for about 2 wks now.

I'm so sorry about your insurance. Hopefully your appeal will go well.

My first consult went great!!! I love the surgeon and he's very personable. I only have 3 tests. Massive Bloodwork, Psych Eval and a sleep Apnea Test and they will all be complet before Christmas. After that i start my 4 visits with the NUT.....I'm hoping to have surgery sometime in March or April.

I'm overly excited to say the least and not scared at all. I just want to hurry and get healthy and get rid of this High Blood Pressure!!!!

How long did it take for your insurance to deny you? I read somewhere that a person's insurance took two weeks to approve them. Not too long but would like this whole process to be quicker!

  6. Hi there Fellow Sleevers!!! I have just started this journey on 11.22.10 which was a WL Seminar that I attended. I was first interested in the Lap Band but after doing extensive research I decided against it and I'm gonig with the Sleeve. Yesterday 12.07.10 was my first consult with my surgeon and I am on my way to start my prescribed tests.

Anyone out there that is just now starting this journey?

    Keshia

  7. Hello Everyone,

I am in the beginning stages of the Lap Band process. I will be going for my consult on Tues, 12.07.10

I just want to give you some tips on the exercise. I actually lost 40 lbs within a few months all on my own before I even thought about WLS. I started out going to the gym and wasn't losing any weight at all so I remembered that I used to workout at home on my own and that I lost weight that way so I began working out at home again. After a while I hit a plateau and was devistated. Suddenly I remembered that I had some DVD's of Billy Blanks known for Taebo. Well I started doing Billy and the weight just fell off. I was doing his Bootcamp DVD and another high Cardio DVD and the pounds just seemed to melt away. Also, a trainer friend of mine told me not to exercise 5 days per week because I was overtraining at some point causing myself to plateau. Also, sometimes 3 days per week isn't enough depending on the intesity of the exercise. Step it up to 4 days per week and switch up your calories throughout the week. One day eat 1500 calories and the next day eat 1000....this is just an example. Also, if you don't get at least 7 to 8 hours of sleep per night you can hender your weight loss. Another thing is that I was always hungry after working out so I would have my dinner right after, take my shower and wind down for about 30 mins to an hour and go to bed because the longer you stay up, the more you will become hungry again.

As far as the Plantar Francitis goes (I can't even spell it anymore...LOL), I had it and was going to a Dr. that kept giving me cortizone shots that only worked once and he kept wrapping my foot in gauze. I finally went to another Dr. and he turned me onto Crocs. After wearing them for a week my foot felt much bettter. After 2 months, the pain was gone.

Hope this tidbit of info helps.
