  1. I was banded on 11/29 and won't have my first fill until 1/26. The doctor said that he will put it 5cc's. I have an an 11CC band. I have some restriction now. I cup of steam broccoli and cauliflower take a few minutes to make me fill anything. I can eat a handful of wheat thins with no problems. Cottage cheese and fruit slide right on down. i hope i get some better restriction after the fill. I have lost 30 pounds including the 2 week liquid pre op diet. I would appreciate any input and suggestions. DA
  2. I am always reading articles about how bad the artificial sweeteners are in diet sodas and that drinking too much of them can cause you to gain weight. I wasn't a huge drinker of diet coke;1-2 cans a day during the summer. They sure tasted good going down. I was banded 11/29 and recently dried a couple sips and it did not go well. I guess I could always try drinking water
  3. I will usually save my sugar free pudding for an after dinner snack. Your idea of doing something with your hands is a much better idea. It also takes your mind off eating when you have to think about your knitting etc.
  4. You are an inspiration to all of us! Congratulations!
  5. I also had to wait the 6 months. During that time i had to meet with the nutritionist 6 times, my GP 6 times and get the psych eval. I also met with the surgeon 4 times There were no requirements as how much i had to lose. (I didn't lose any). One of the resons for all of the hoops is to stop people who get the band on a whim. "Gee, its Thursday and my butt looks big, i think Ill get a lap band." I am aware of some people who were approved quicker depending on their insurance provider or their medical needs. Hang in there. The time does fly past!
  6. I was banded on 11/29. I have lost 30 pounds and that includes the 2 week liquid pre op diet also. As many have stated before we did not gain this weight over night and we are not going to lose it over night. Many of us have gone through phases of days and weeks of sticking to our diets and exercising and not losing an ounce and then suddenly dropping weight again. It does get frustrating! Right now my really fat clothes are baggy, my fat clothes are still a tad too tight and my regular clothes still have the dust on them. But, I am hopeful to get back into them. My doctor said that I should be walking everyday. I have not been good on the exercising and i know i would have better weight loss if got my butt off the couch more often. I have noticed that it is easier to lace up my shoes now that some of my belly is gone, We need to be thankful for the small successes!
  7. I was banded on 11/29 and my port area is still sore. On a couple of occasions lately i have felt a stinging. I have done some bicycling at the gym a couple of times, but that seems to pull on the port area. I do not have any redness or swelling that I can can tell. I go in for my first fill on 1/26. Do you eventually feel as if it is not there? Thanks
  8. My doc said that it should be pale yellow or clear to show that you are properly hydrated. What you are eating can change the color of your pee and poop.
  9. My mother was filling out Christmas cards and wanted to know if she could tell the relatives i had "that surgery" done. I told her heck no. I have only told a couple of close friends. i see no reason to share it with the world. If other people comment on my weight loss I tell them jokingly that the Burger King by my house burned down. (it really did) and leave it at that.
  10. I keep hearing the term "slider" foods. What are they? Thank you Diana
  11. I was banded on 11/29. At my 2 week check up my doctor said i should be walking, but not doing a lot of bending over. It takes about 6 weeks for the port to form scar tissue around it and I could mess things up if i bend a lot.
  12. The hospital should provide all of the medications and food you will need. Did you have to do a pre admit registration? All i brought was an extra pair of underwear and There was nothing else i needed.
  13. I was pretty impressed with myself being able to bend over easily to pick up things. I could feel some stress in my port area when I bent over. My doctor warned me about bending over a lot. That can cause it to flip over. I have the Realize band. I am a lot more careful now and use my reacher when i need something off the floor. I was banded on 11/29.
  14. I am sorry to hear that. Maybe you should try just a few sips every 10-15 minutes. Thank heaven you can see your doc tomorrow. See what he says to do if this should happen again. i would be interested to know as I have my first fill in 6 weeks.
  15. It seen many people post to SIP warm tea when the band is too tight. It has worked for me.
  16. Watch out for spicy food right now. At 3 weeks out I tried to puree a Shepard/s Pie. It came out great, but it was too spicy for my tender tummy, The instructions from the doctor said to stay away from spicy foods and tomato based foods for a while. I guess they know what they are talking about.
  17. It is the little successes that can be more important then what the scale says. i am hoping to not get stuck in my mother's dinning room chairs this year.
  18. Congratulations on your hard work. I was banded on 11/29 and have lost about 10 pounds since then. I found that I am now able to wear some underwear that was previously too snug. I grabbed a pair of jeans i use to wear and was pleased they fit , although a bit tight in the waist. The next day the area around my band was so sore and it has taken about 3 days to stop hurting. I guess I need to wait a bit longer to fit into them. Also, my doctor said that I should not be bending over a lot. He said that scar tissue has to form around the port and doing a lot of bending can cause it to flip. So, i am now using a grabber!
  19. I was told to make sure I get Fiber supplements. i have taken them from day one and have had no problems. i get the chewable kind.
  20. That is interesting to know. thanks!
  21. Check with the Bariatric Center at Desert Springs hospital. they many be able to give you referrals.
  22. You need to get some fiber tablets. I had even thought of it until someone reminded me. It is easy to get constipated in the early days of being banded. Also, keep drinking fluids.
