  1. I have been banded for about 7 years. no problems until last year. I am having some tests done to see if i have band erosion. I know how the band works, I guess the sleeve is the next option if I have to have it removed. i want to go with the least extreme option. How does the sleeve work? Would you feel full like with a band? With the band, after 4-5 bites it feels like if I east one more bite it will be coming back up. Not sure what to expect from a sleeve. I am 69 and dont want to do anything drastic.

    Thank you

Hi bunnyboop... I am due to have band to bypass revision next week...... been waiting a year... did you have it as one surgery. How did it go.. how are you feeling and how quickly is the weight coming off?

Hate to side track this discussion, but I was banded in 2010 and I am starting to have problems with my band. My doctor has orders an upper GI and a barium swallow test. The doc said he is no longer doing bands and it taking lots out. My band has stopped me from gaining a lot of weight back and I guess I may have to have the sleeve done. Any one had the same experience/

    Thanks

  3. I was banded in 2010. I only told a very few people who had a "need to know". When i was asked about my weight loss my 2 favorite go to answers were. "I gave up eating the crappy foods, like bread" or "I gave up drinking soda". Both of which were true. I may also toss in about going to the gym. I don't make a big deal about it.

Good for you for planning ahead.

  4. I had to fly cross country about a month after I was banded. I ate part of a baked potato while waiting for my flight. Suddenly I started getting very loud gas bursts. Lucky for me the gift shop was open so I bought a box of Gas-X. From then on I always travel with a box of them in my purse.

  5. I recently had the same procedures done. The doctor was able to very clearly see my band and tell me all was well with that. After I cut out all of the crappy slider foods like ice cream, potato chips, cheesecake etc my stomach has been fine.. I hope oh feel better soon.

  6. I had some of the same symptoms and finally made an appointment with a gastroenterologist . I had gall bladder sludge and gastritis . Firstt thing I had to do was cleanup my diet. No coffee, milk products, yogurt was ok, chocolate, juice with Fiber in it, ice cream, potato chips and anything spicy. I switched to almond milk and small amount of Decaf coffee. Gall bladder are problems common with quick weight loss. I am surprised none of your doctors recommended a gastro doctor. It made a big difference for me.

    Hope you feel better soon,

  7. I was banded 11/10 and have had no problems. Last month I develped severe Constipation. It was from a combination of pain killers for my back, far too much cheese and not enough fiber. I could not bear down hard enough to have a BM because it would hit the vagus nerve and send shooting pains all through my body. I endedup at the ER at 5AM. To cut the story short the visit included poking, proding, enemias and nothing worked. They finally gave me a script for that awful drink you have to have to clean you out before a colonscopy. Well it worked fast and I was fine. I had to drink about 1/2 the big container. So now I make sure to eat two Fiber Choice tablets a day, and more fluids and very very little cheese! Also, Magnesium Citrate works great for a quick fix. It comes in little glass bottles and are found with the laxatives. If I had know that before I wouldn't have ended up in the ER!

  8. Don't be discouraged. Before long you will find that you can move better. I found that i was able to do different exercises because my stomach wasn't getting in the way before. I had a personal trainer who thought I should do all sorts of exercises that a 20 year old can do and i was over 50. I switched to one that listened to me and I have been with her for 2 years. She doesn't let me get lazy, but she doesn't expect me to do jumping jacks either. Best $$$ I have spent!

  9. I would be very cautious about eating steak, no matter how little you have. Considering the battles you have had keeping food down maybe sticking with mushies is a good idea. I have had no problems except for when i have tried to eat meat or breads. It is like a slap upside my head when I eat something i know i shouldn't then I end up with slimming.

I hope to stay on the road to good health and no problems!

  10. i was banded 11/2010 and have lost @ 50 pounds. I would like to loose at least 20 more. I have had not a single problem. I followed every instruction my doctor gave me. I also have a friend that had the surgery a year before mine and she had good advice. The only problem i have found is that my skin is not bouncing back. My arms are making me crazy and uncomfortable. I could kill flies with the flapping skin.

Don't push your eating and rush the recovery stages you need to go through.

Good luck and happy losing weight to you! :)

  11. Thank you for the information. It seems there is constantley new procedure coming out. Please keep post your updates.

BTW, i went to buy a new bra and discovered that the area I need to shave under my pits has gotten longer I didn't think your pits could sag also! I had to chuckle before I grumbled over it.

Thanks a lot and good luck with your procedure.

  12. There are many good suggestions posted here. First, check to see if your college provides mental health services. Most do and at no cost. Check to see if your surgeon or hospital has a support group for weight loss patients.
