My surgery date is Dec 31st! What a way to bring in the new year! Tmrrw is my pre-op appointment at Duke regional in Durham NC, evidently it's an all day thing where I go to group, meet with nutrition again and with my surgeon, anesthesiologist and of course FINANCE. I've tried to reach out already to Iron out the details about what they require up front and nobody seems to know. I have bcbs IL and luckily they didn't require any supervised dieting period so that was a relief. I have 1500 deductible which I've already met just with pre op psych and nut and lab testing etc...and my oop max is 3k...so im really not too worried about the rest...im assuming it's all going to be billable since nobody at duke seems to know or really be stressing it.
Yesterday I met a really great guy at Vitamin Shoppe in Burlington NC, who was completely encouraging and has lost over 90 pounds himself. He was able to recommend a Multivitamin geared spec for bariatric patients that was fairly inexpensive and the best type of Protein that I'll probably go purchase after my appointment tmrw. Apparently my insurance requires a surgery date to be set prior to submitting for approval so that was just sent for approval on Friday and was told by admin at Duke Metabolic Center for Weight loss to give it til about this Wednesday or so to check on the approval.**crossing my fingers** Soooooo....that's where I'm at...I guess it will all sink in after tmrw...until then I'll be checking out the forum and various youtube videos for encouragement

My surgeon said it almost doesn't matter what size it is because you don't know the surgeons technique. He said some go up right against it and some pull away from it some.

Hi everyone! Thanks for the well wishes. Surgery was yesterday morning at 9. I was so tired before that from going to bed so late (work) and getting up so early to get to the hospital.
The hospital and staff were amazing. Even though there are closer hospitals, given a choice, I will go back there!
Surgery went well. He found out that I have a congenital birth defect! I have a diaphragmatic hernia (hernia/opening in my diaphragm. He said he could only do one or the other so he did the sleeve and said I would need to get the hernia fixed at some point.
Due to my previous terrible recoveries I made sure they did all they could do. I took the emend when I got to the hospital, then they gave me of ran under the tongue and patch behind the ear. I still woke up a bit sick but nothing like before and it didn't last long. I have 5 incisions. One on my right side where he pulled out the stomach hurts the most. I was on dilaudid at the hospital. I was in no pain as long as I didn't move! I had some gas pain just in mid chest. I did take a gasx. Not sure if that helped or if it just went away on its own.
I peed all night long, almost every hour. I was able to do it all myself but needed help reconnecting the SCD boots. I would get up, go to the bathroom, quick walk down the hall, pee again and then get back in bed.
I am very fortunate in that I can drink pretty easily. I have to stop myself because too many sips causes a bit of pain in my chest but I'm even able to drink my shakes. I hated everything they gave me as it was all sugar free. I tasted all of it just to see if I could tolerate it, and I could.
When I got home, I made a shake with a dose of Miralax as I want stay on top of that. I'm pretty much staying put in the recliner in my bedroom. I only take the dilaudid when I have pain while not moving. No catheter, no drain.
I don't know when I will be able to add the new people to the list. If someone wants to copy and paste the most recent list into a new reply, they can also add the new folks.
I hope everyone is doing well on their preops and postops!

I'm on my way home. The only things I used were cell charger, chapstick and glasses. Had a very comfortable bed so didn't need my pillow. They had a robe and grippy socks.

    5 days post -op here!
Thought i would share my story as all of you have been sooo amazingly wonderful!
Prior to surgery had to undergo lots of med tests, classes and lose 8% weight. My center was very strict but i was happy because in the long run it was only for the betterment of you!
Morning of surgery, i had lost 44.5 pounds (16 lbs over required), i was pretty happy w/ that! Surgery took awhile longer as Dr had to remove quite a bit of scar tissue from an open gall bladder surgery 27 years ago. She also had to repair a hiatal hernia. After surgery i was actually surprised at how "out of it" I was. I do remember walking a few times and vividly remember this..." Coll, we need to give you insulin as your blood sugar is very high!" I have NEVER had high blood sugar and trying to prevent diabetes was one of the many reasons for this surgery! Apparently this is quite common!! Something to do w/ your pancreas not working for while or something like that. Then it went too low and i needed another shot. Sooo until the afternoon i left, they continued to monitor this every two hours.
I had the roomie from hell who talked loudly on her cell all night long. Never slept a wink. The next morning when I went for my leak test, they said my surgeon wanted to be there. Did the test - it was fine - thank God! Told my soc about my roomie and she said i will NOT return to that room which i did not. Then i started on my ounce of Water every hour. Who the heck would think that drinking that tiny cup would take forever??? Holy moly! I also walked a ton that day and i know this really helped. The next day I started Clear Liquids one ounce every 15 minutes. After they were sure this was OK i was sent home about 4 in the afternoon. Also i gained 11 pounds since surgery (was weighed upon release).
Surprisingly, did not sleep well that night. Not in a lot of pain, just could not sleep. The next day, I admit to a few crying spells because i was worried about not getting in all of my liquids. THANKS to this site - I knew it would be hard. My Dr's goals are 48 - 64 oz of liquid and 60 grams of Protein. I am praying I reach those numbers!! Yesterday i did 42 oz of liquids and only 8 G of Protein. I REALLY tried an Injury Chix broth but i thought i was gonna hurl! NOT GOOD! Today, I already increased my protein and I am still working on the rest.
Overall, not much pain, lots of burping and gas, cannot wait to really chew something - ANYTHING! I am tired - oh and VERY cold!! Anyone else experience this? I know i am very lucky compared to others. My prayers are with Andrew right now.
I cannot thank all of you enough for all of your tips, hints and advice. As a matter of fact, i passed this site onto a few pple i met on my floor who had surgery and also my surgeon!
One more question, what was the name of the site for recipes? I am very worried about making it thru the next two weeks on just liquids.
Best Wishes to all of you!!!

Alright December Sleevers, I'm hoping that this title brings more people in so we can follow and encourage each other through our journeys.

I am 40. I'm 5'4" and about 308 right now. I'd like to get to a healthy BMI which would be around 145. I'm hoping for a December 4th or 5th date with Dr. William Johnson.

    Everyone introduce yourselves!
