    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

I was ecstatic when I was told I wouldn't need the preop and crushed when I was told I did afterall. It has been the BEST thing. I would not have believed how much more prepared I feel for this lifestyle change.

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

It is so weird. This is my second week on preop and I just made beef jerky for my dogs (human beef jerky) and to not even have a piece is just so weird. I know, though, that I'll be able to eat it again soon enough. I lost a lot more days 1-8. So far this week, it's a slow go! I only have one week of postop liquids, which I'm glad for! I did go shopping today and didn't even have to think twice about food or what I couldn't have. It was neat to realize that it wasn't consuming me today!

So sorry you had a rough recovery! I hope you are feeling better as each day goes by! I don't generally recover well myself. Doc has stronger pain meds already lined up. My NUT counts "fluids" as anything without caffeine. I know all are different but if you're getting your protein in, you're probably doing pretty ok on your fluids. Glad you checked in!

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

I feel as though when your on the clear liquids Pre-op diet it's getting your body ready for the 1-2 weeks of clear liquids that your about to do in your Post -op. So for a lot of folks who didn't have to do the pre-op diet is kind of weird to me. I would think that your surgeon would want you to experience what your body will be going through after surgery. I know the preop diet has totally helped my head more than anything! It has really given me plenty of time to mentally prepare for this life long journey without the added stress of the actual surgery and pain. I think I'll be in a good place head-wise and hopefully better able to focus on recovery than the sudden loss of food too! Who knew? I was so upset when they called me back and told me I had to do it. Now, I am so thankful!

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

What does your preop consist of? Mine is 3 protein drinks, 2 snacks like SF pudding, unsweetened applesauce, light yogurt, and unlimited no calorie drinks. So I'm doing 3 Premier Protein drinks, 2 unsweetened applesauces and 48 ounces of water (most days). I was drinking some broth, but haven't craved it or needed anything extra so trying to stick to water. For me, I've found that I seem to lose more weight the more water I drink. There were 2 days I didn't lose any weight but it's been really cold here and I find it hard to drink water when I'm cold. The first 2 days, I went to the bathroom like crazy! That subsided. I'm sure it depends on what our preop diets are and the fact that we are all different. So hard not to compare ourselves to other people!! Hang in there and just follow your plan! Three more days for me and then surgery.

Time sure does fly! Glad you're doing well! After my gallbladder removal last year, it was a couple of weeks before I could get on my side, but I don't tolerate pain very well and the meds don't do much for me. I learned to sleep on my back during that time (was always a stomach sleeper). Good thing I did, I have a feeling I'll be sleeping that way for a while again! What stage are you on with your diet?

Try the Better Than Boullion paste. I like the chicken it on its own, a spoonful in hot water and I added a smaller spoonful into the Unjury Chicken broth. I find it very tasty.

I wonder if being on the preop prepares a person fir postop? Originally, I wasn't supposed to be on one and I thought it would be super hard. I thought it be easy postop because of recovery. Preop has been much easier than I could have imagined. I DO want food but I'm such a rule follower, I know it's not an option so I'm just trying to roll along. Surgery is Friday and then just one week of liquids after!
  14. We're supposed to take our iron alone. Iron shouldn't be taken with calcium so if there is calcium in the multi, the iron should be separate. My NUT said no gummies just because they didn't have all of the same nutrients as a regular chewable multi which is too bad because I live my gummies.

It is great to have so much info. I was able to ask about things I had read on here in my last preop class.

    I won't have a drain. I didn't ask why some do or don't, though.

I had 2 days of loose stuff and lots of peeing and then back to normal. Today is day #7 and I've lost 11.6 pounds.

Have you mentioned the Bromelain to your surgeon's office? I had my big preop class yesterday and we were warned about herbal medicines and to make sure they were cleared.

Do you have GNC near enough by you? I think they sell individual Isopure drinks, you could try one to see if you have a reaction. Some people talk about taking a Lactaid before their milk products? Or what about mixing your protein with soy milk or almond milk (I think those don't have lactose). This is from the Body Fortress (sold at Walmart) whey protein shots: Ultimate Recovery Fuel (Fruit Punch) 26 grams of Protein Supports Exercise Recovery with BCAA's Zero Sugar *This product is made up of a protein blend that contains collagenic protein isolate, whey protein isolate and casein protein isolate. I don't know anything about protein shots, just did a search and trying to help! Also, maybe do a forum search for protein shots and see what others had to say or what others found. Good luck!

That is awesome! Congrats! These premier Protein drinks have grown on me. With 30 grams of protein, I continue on them. So great that you have no problems getting in fluids at all! I hope that for the rest of us! Keep up the great work!

I had the runs on day 2 (and peed every hour for the first 2 days) but I've been fine since. You could have a whey intolerance.

Have you tried Gatorade at all? Or maybe splash your water with some Gatorade just to help with your electrolytes until you can take in more? I wouldn't even (personally) worry about getting the G2 Gatorade. I would get the regular. Sorry you are so nauseated. That is the worst feeling. I hope your meds come soon! Did you get any Isopure clear drinks? Maybe those would go down easier than the shakes? I have no clue, just don't want you to get dehydrated!

    I Need Help!

This is EXACTLY what I was going to recommend! I had my surgery in 2007 and I STILL drink these. I keep my Costco membership and drive past three Sam's Clubs to get to Costco just for these! Half of the top shelf in my fridge stays loaded with these RTD babies! I do use protein powder in recipes, though. I add unflavored protein powder to anything I can. I use the flavored ones in blender recipes. By themselves they are atrocious, but in recipes they work very well. (i.e. chocolate protein powder with a scoop of natural Peanut Butter and half a frozen banana) I have several flavors of powders that are disgusting by themselves, but great in recipes. To use the powders you have, it's just a matter of finding recipes to "mask" the "ICK FACTOR" of the powders. LOL If you would like help with recipes, let me know. Have you checked the Sams Clubs that you drive by? Our Sam's sells the premier protein. I have one a mile from my house and that's where I get mine. You can check on Sam's online as well to see if they have them.
