3 Weeks post op and need some help!

Mine is not until June 9, I thought this was a little far out but I guess my dr wont do it before then. I will say that each day I feel I can start all over again so thats a change, but I still have a regular hunger feeling so sometimes it is hard to resist but I am healing beautifully..my port is just about flat. How about you? Sonia

    Surgery like C-Section?

Not really, and plus you wont want to drink anything at first. I was so thirsty after surgery and all I got was a sip of water but I didnt want anymore after my thirst was quenched. Actually didnt even have an appetite for the first 5 days but day 6 I was starving like crazy.

    Surgery like C-Section?

Yes they do, a liquid pain reliever but I drank it like water for the first 2 days. It was still painful for me but like everyone says, you do get through it. I started feeling some relief on day 3 but the heating pad and gas x are a must.

    Surgery like C-Section?

I had a C section too and this surgery was more painful to me for the first couple of days, I think mostly it was gas pressure and the port sight but there was no way I could have handled that on my own, as I was thinking I could. Luckily my mom was in town and basically waited on me hand and foot, but honestly I needed her for about 3 days straight, and thank god she was there. As far as taking care of little ones, I am glad she was there for mine because I was out of commission. Hope this helps.

3 Weeks post op and need some help!

I was banded March 28 and I also hit a plateau, Ive lost about 15 lbs and have not lost anything for the last 2 weeks. I was hoping this was a normal feeling because I don't have any fluid in my band and was worried about gaining what I lost. I don't feel any restriction though and have been able to eat whatever, trying to stick to healthy choices but its kinda hard when I there is nothing in the band??? Any advice here?
  6. Hi, I was newly banded (not even a week yet to be precise) and the first 5 days went as planned as far as not having an interest in food but yesterday was the first day I could have soft foods and I felt hungry early afternoon, in fact I felt like I was starving all day. I did nit pick at mostly healthy items but my parents grilled some burgers and I just had to have a bite, so I did. I pretty much remained hungry throughout the night, I was expecting an appetite to resurface but not full fledge like it did yesterday. I know there are some bandsters that have experienced the same thing, any pointers. This morning I drank like 2 glasses of Water before I had some oatmeal and so far I am not that hungry but just curious what the heck happened on day 6? Syrup

Band vs. Sleeve? Why did you pick band?

Me personally, by the time I found out about the sleeve, I was already knee deep and finished with my ins requirements for the band. I didnt even hear about the sleeve until I went to take my chest xray when I spoke with a nurse and she said her friend was now getting the sleeve after being banded. Honestly, if I had more time to research it, I might have picked the sleeve because I hear there is not as much problems with spitting up but time was my reason, purely. However if insurance wont cover it then I would have picked the band in the long run.

    Feeling sick

I know what you mean, I just had surgery on March 28th and it was day 3 before I had a BM and 2 days before I released a small amount of gas, but now its day 6 and its a coming lol, the gas pain will get better but I felt horrible for the first 2 days and it mostly was due to the gas pain. But they are right, you need to drink Water and Protein shakes in order to try and feel better and try to walk when your up to it, this too will release the gas pressure. I used gas x as well but now I hear beano works alot better. Syrup

    Anyone still here?

    Thanks for the input...
  10. Hi guys, I have not exercised in many many years (my bad ) how am I j supposed to jump in and start after surgery. Any suggestions on what I could start on, when I am feeling better? But I have to be totally honest, I have enjoyed being a couch potato over the years so I am looking for realistic solutions. I know I am not going to 1) feel like it or 2) feel like it. What is realistic... really???

    One Week Pre-Op

I was like pre op diet? What is that???? My Dr. didn't put me on one either. He did advise I start taking a Protein shake but thats all he said. I have no idea what I am supposed to be doing, I am still eating regular and I have surgery on December 7th. I do wonder if I am ready for this, I feel like I should be doing something to get prepared or something... any thoughts?

    Surgery 10 days

I finally scheduled surgery and have it in exactly 10 days and I am scared to death of my final decision. I don't what to expect, what to do, where to start, nothing. I feel I should be feeling more positive about this by this point, I have been pondering on it for years and started the process in May and now its done and all my pre requisits are complete.. just need to wait for December 7th. My issue is, how do I go from eating normal to dieting in one day... what will I be like mentally, will it hurt, do I really want to be restricted from eating what I want,.. am I making a mistake? Any uplifting words of encouragement would help from you guys. You all have been great since I joined this forum last month, I just really don't know what to do or what to expect???????? Syrup 71
  17. I will be having the surgery in December and was curious on what I will need right after surgery. I got the obvious like protein shakes, water and clear liquids but I know there realisticially there is more? Any help would be appreciated, thanks guys and gals...
  18. This was really helpful, thanks.
  19. Well I have recently been approved for lap band surgery and I have not set up the surgery date because I am not 100% convienced it is something I want to do and the assistant at the dr.office suggested I join this site so I can talk to others who are "like me" or were like me at some point. I have researched this surgery for about 6 years and thought about it for that long before I decided to talk to a lap band center. This is not a rush decision by any means and I know there is hard work ahead. Finally this year I decided to at least try and get approved and then I could decide if I wanted to go through it. I do have some health issues like diabetis, high bp and high cholesterol so I feel as I am triple whammied and should just go for it and change my life but this whole "no white foods" thing is kind of bothering me so I wanted to elicit some feedback from the group to see if it is a reality. I know I need to make some changes and I am actually ok with changing the way I eat. I mean my eating habits and lack of exercise is what got me here. I just want to know what to expect from real patients that have had the surgery. I probably need to lose about 80 pounds in all actuality so that makes me think maybe I just need to hire a personal trainer and get to work. I just don't know but I have to make up my mind quickly because my approval letter ends December 31st. Help.... I know I can do it but do I have to take this route for 50 to 80 pounds. If any one else has felt like this please let me know your thoughts. Thanks guys. Syrup71Fort Worth, Texas
  20. My coworker had it and she said she truly can't feel it inside of her. I too wondered the same thing. She also said she has no regrets but she had to lose 180 pounds and was practically bed ridden before she decided to do it. I am glad there are others out there that can relate to me because I just don't know whats right for me.
  21. Thats a good idea, what can it hurt. Thank you and I will continue to get feedback from this support group.
  22. Thank you for replying to me and good question. Some of the reasons are several people I know in the last few months have all had some serious health problems with surgery, but only 1 had the lap band so I took that into account. I don't want to have the surgery and still not lose any weight. The no white foods and carbonated drinks is bothering me (I wont lie about that). I don't drink alot of regular soda but I do like diet drinks. Pretty much most of the people that care about me won't fully support the decision to have it and that is kind of hard to go forward with. Again, they are not saying don't do it but they aren't saying do it either. I just have to make this decision on my own and really didn't have any where else to turn. I agree with what you said though and I do feel it will only help me in the long run. I mean it, It took 20 years to gain it all. Thanks again for the question.. maybe I really don't know why?
