    Food question

I've been wondering about this too. I LOVE sushi and hope I can have it ocassionally.
  4. I lost 9 pounds, according to the clinic's scale vs my home scale anyways. I know that was mostly Water weight. I think as long you're following the preop diet guidelines that you were given you're on the right track, doing what you're supposed to be. good luck!!
  5. I can so relate to that constant tape of "I'm fat" playing in my head 24/7. Can't wait to be where you are

    Got my life back!

Wow! Good for you. Keep up the great work. Can't wait to be where you are
  7. Ok, that does make a lot of sense as well. So great to get feedback from people who have been there, done that!
  8. I had surgery about 6 days ago. I'm wondering if it's normal for the port site to have a "tingling" sensation ( that's the best way I can describe it). Also when I cough it hurts the port site so much. It almost feels like it's shifting or moving. It probably isn't ... I think... But is it normal to have this much discomfort with coughing? I can't wait to heal, it's been not great to this point.
  9. Thanks! As I newbie I just have so many questions, fears, doubts. I appreciate both of you taking the time to reply.
  10. Hi I actually feel embarassed to admit this but I'm sooo hungry. I just had my surgery last Friday, December 3. I have been on clear fluids and tomorrow start the "full fluid" phase. My stomach is growling non stop. I've been living on cranberry juice, chicken broth and that's about it. I have fill I'm my band, they do that at the time of surgery now, in the clinic I was banded at. So I guess I'm confused as to why I'm so starving. I will follow the guidlines to the letter but has anyone else been through this ? I feel nervous about being able to be succesful when I'm this hungry.
  11. Thanks for the feedback guys! So appreciated. I guess there can be different variables for each of us. Today is day one of full fluids. I've only had a bit of juice and water this morning, but have brought protien powder and some thin soup to work today. I hope that helps calm the hunger pains somewhat.
  12. Not getting any protien at all yet. Starting tomorrow I can add protien shakes. I hope that helps a bit. So apreciate your quick response

    december 2010 post op

Hello I was banded December 3 in Toronto. Everything went ok, they also repaired a medium sized hernia. I am still on strictly clear fluids only until Wednesday this week. The pain which I assume is the gas pain people talk about is the worst part of this recovery. There are a lot of things that make it hurt more, like laughing, crying and bending over. The pain is in my chest, neck and shoulders. Wish it would go away. I go back to work tomorrow. I get the odd hiccup which is also painful. Wishing everyone a very speedy recovery
  14. Hi! I'm having my sugery December 3 and it's approaching quickly. Would love someone who has been there done that to "lean" on, and be there for questions etc. I am a 34 yr old female. I am married with 2 kids and I work full time, all day, at a desk. I start my preop diet this Friday and it is pretty much low fat/bland. Any help, support would be so welcome.... You have no idea. Thanks for reading-- Holly
  15. I LOVE cooking and being creative with my cooking (I post a lot of dinner everyday. I cook with fresh organic ingredients, and I try to experiment with new flavors and healthier ways of cooking things (including sweets and desserts!)...and so I'm trying to find the same excitement that I used to have for crap food with food that is healthy and nourishing. And its working. I know not everyone shares my enthusiasm for cooking, but I think if you do like to cook, its very helpful to do it when you have the band. My fiance and I used to eat out everyday...now I really don't see a need to eat out very often since I can probably make something more delicious and fresh at home and I don't have to worry about my food being drowned in fat and oil. thanks for posting this. I am a foodie, and enjoy cooking and eating different foods. As of late I've had thoughts about will I be able to enjoy cooking the way I used to, will I still be able to enjoy variety? I am definitley someone who cannot eat the same thing everyday. I really like to mix it up and try new things.
  16. oh wow! You have done so well! You are where I hope to be (well same amount of loss). You are beautiful. Any words of wisdom for me, I'll be banded December 3?
  17. Boy you sound like me. My kids are 12 and 16 and part of the reason that I also have chosen not to tell them is because I don't want it getting back to my ex husband, their father. I need to do this on my own terms and part of that is NOT having people scrutinize my progress etc. I'm doing this to better myself and am confident that I've told the right people. Good luck
  18. Just wondering what your experience with their people has been to this point. Mine has been mostly positive but somewhat mixed. I cannot get them to send me a copy of a receipt for $8000 I've already paid. Getting frustrated with that. It's a big chunk of money, I don't understand their resistance. Also when are you being banded by Slimband and what made you choose them?
  19. December 3rd for me and I start the preop diet November 24. Nervous and having self doubt - not band doubt. But I am trying to stay positive and excited. I NEED to do this.
  20. Im not telling my girls either. I don't want them to think their bodies don't measure up etc. I've only told my parents, husband and best friend..... Oh and all of you! LOL
  21. Hello I'm scheduled to be banded in early December. Although I have spent the last 3-4 yrs researching lap band and mostly feel confident with my decision, I still have some nagging doubt lingering. Mostly, I am actually going to lose the weight, and keep it off? I'm just putting that out there and "voicing" my concerns. Maybe this is just pre surgery worry... Also I'm concerned that losing weight/lap band is going to become an obsession. Now my obsession is food and eating. Will my new sole focus be my band and the scale? This scares me a little. I just want to be at a normal healthy weight and live a normal life, without trading one obsession for another. Does that make sense? I read the good, the bad and the ugly on these posts and so badly want to be a success and turn my life around -- get out of this fat suit forever.
  22. Hi December buddies! I'm getting banded dec 3rd. I'm pretty excited, start my preop diet November 26. Wishing all of you lots of success

    Fill Doctor in Edmonton Alberta?

hi the info I got from Slimband in Toronto is there is a clinic in Edmonton which is located at 10020 101A Avenue NW. I don't have a ph number but maybe the TO office could give it to you. I was told they do fills there for Slimband patients.
  24. I'm not sure which province you're in. I'm in Alberta and apparently alberta hedlth care covers some for out of province costs. I will be having my surgery in Ontario next month. I'll see if I can dig up Ito. I know there is a specific form to fill out. I think another lady I spoke to got about $1100 back. Something is better than nothing.
