    Time off work?

I had surgery on 10/27 I thought I would go back on 11/2(day after my birthday) I also have a light duty physical job,(A lot of walking to and from meetings and computer work) I returned to work last Thursday for a half day on Thursday and Friday. I was still having a lot of gas last Monday and Tuesday and was only averaging about 300-400 cal. I literally had no energy. Today Saturday, I really feel good, except this discomfort in my left side where the port is and where my largest incision is. I suggest you take at least a full week, it may have just been a simple surgery but as my MD said it is still general anesthesia and it takes a little time to recover. Good Luck.

November 2010 Bandsters - post op

My pain post op for a few days was pretty bad, I used some ice on my stomach for 15 minute intervals and it helped ease the pain a little. Walking short intervals helped a lot also, the gas pains are the worse and the more you move the better it gets. I ate a lot of Sf pop cycles by first few days and crushed ice, make sure you stay well hydrated. I hope you feel better soon.

November 2010 Bandsters - post op

Deb, Glad your doing well, I am 10 days post op now and yesterday I took in the most calories, protein and fluids I had since surgery. I managed to get 75 gms of protein and actually ate 3 small meals and drank the majority of my liquids. I was worried about this but my doc told me it would take time and just to make sure I got my Protein drinks in and maintain my protein level between 60-80gms. I still get gas and am still using my gas-X, I realized last night was the first night I did not need my pain pill or meds for nauesa. I advanced to soft foods on thursday but have taken it very slow after the mashed potatos gave me heartburn for 4 hours. I am still not hungry but the doc says this will change over the next few weeks, not looking forward to that. He says as swelling subsides the opening to my stomach will be larger and foods will go through quicker. I go back in two weeks but originally he told me he does not fill until 4 to 6 weeks. Still dropping weight but when your only eating around 500 cal that is to be expected. Yesterday I took in 700 cal, woohoo. A milestone. I am glad I made this choice and only wish I had done it sooner. I think the part I like best is I am not hunger, I always felt hunger on diets. Have a great day and keep us posted on your progress.

    October 2010 (Bootiful Bandsters) Thread

I was banded on the 27th went back to work yesterday, lucky I have a great boss and came home yesterday at 2pm and today at 3pm. Still feel tired and yes if I eat or drink to fast I get a sharp pain under my shoulder blade and feel this intense need to burp. I feel like I am lucky because I have a lot of co-workers who have had weight loss surgery over the past two years. I have only heard my stomach growl twice since surgery and still have never really felt hungry, from all I read I know that day will come. right now I am just enjoying the fact that I am not hungry. Have not idea what sliming is?

November 2010 Bandsters - post op

I started eating soft foods yesterday, my first experience were with mashed potatos, had heart burn all evening started with 1/4 cup and progressed to 1/2 cup should have stopped at 2/4 cup. I will learn. This morning I had a small omlet made with egg beaters, 1/2 cup egg beaters with some peppers, onions, a little cheese. I ate 1/2 of it and not problem. Went back to work today and for lunch I stuck with 1/4 cup black bean soup with protein powder and a protein shake. Afraid I would get sick at work. Tonight I had some Deli turkey slices and some mushy carrots, not very appealing. but to your question when I eat solids sometimes if I eat just a little to much I am very uncomfortable. Today I had more calories then I have had since surgery. I had been staying around 450-500 calories perday today I had 700 and met my goals of protein of 75 gms.(My doctor wants me to take in 60-80 gms per day) Sugar Free popcycles are my friend the quiet down my stomach. Yesterday at post op visit I was told my pouch opening was still swollen and this would loosen up over next few weeks and I would start to feel hungry before my first adjustment. So far I don't feel hungry, I have to make my self eat.

November 2010 Bandsters - post op

Patty, I hope there is not a Lap-Band purgatory but if there is I am sure we will all have plenty of company. :frown: I also had surgery on 10/27 have lost 9 lbs as well, today I had my first post op visit and my MD progressed me to soft mushy foods, like fish, potato's mashed, carrots mashed etc, i was so excited, real food. Well I at my 1/4 c mashed potato's and thought not bad and the old me just could not leave it alone and ate the other 1/4 cup 30 minutes later, well now I am paying for it with indigestion and reflux. I felt quilt for eating the second 1/4 cup of mashed potato's and seriously I have only taken in 450 calories today, so I think we will all be real comfy together here:lol:. Keep chatting I know it helps me to realize everyone is feeling the same thing. Keep up the good work and good luck.

If it helps my 3rd and 4th day were the worst for gas by day 5 I was able to have liquids and tolerate. I really was not able to do the protein until day 6 and I am still struggling with getting the amount they want me to have in 24 hours along with meals and water. I average around 350-500 calories a day and staying pretty tired. I have also found the gas pains come back if I drink to fast. Gas-X is my new friend. Hope you feel better soon, Good luck!:frown:

Deb, glad your doing well, hope you get to go home later today. I had my first week post-op visit(banded 10/27) Weight down 8lbs from pre-op, first day back at work, tired but made it. Doctor told me to increase my Protein, only been drinking 50-60gms. I thought I was doing good but he wants me to have 60-80gms. Not sure how my pouch is going to hold all this, but I will work on it. Tonight I get to eat some mushy food...Now who everythought I would get excited about trying some soft scrambled eggs or mashed potatos. Well I ate the 4ozs mashed potatos when I got home today and guess who has heart burn. I think I was too excited and ate them to fast. Tomorrow morning I will try the soft eggs and increase the protein, tonight, I see broth in my future and Gas-X:blink: Hope all are doing well feeling good about the day overall even with the gas. :frown:

I have surgery in the tomorrow!

Your feelings are normal, we all felt both excited and scared and some days still feel that way. I am post op day 7 and today was an emotional day for me, but I made it through it and not with food as my comfort but with courage and an excitement for my new life. I have found reading everyones postings and realizing we all have so much in common even though we have never met. I know your surgery will go well tomorrow and just think this is a new beginning. How often do we get new beginnings. Best wishes and prayers your way for a speedy recovery.

Deb, You made me smile. I also said goodbye to an old friend two weeks before surgery, I had a McDonalds Fish Sandwich and Fries. Ate all the Fish Sandwich but couldn't eat the fries they were cold. lol My old way of thinking was if no one I knew saw me eat it, it didn't count. Well we know where that got me. I know I will never eat another because I want this too much and am committed to giving this 100%. This first week post op has been a challange trying to get all my Protein in and dealing with all the flood of emotions. Get a good nights rest and when you wake up tomorrow just think...It will be the First day of the rest of your life. A healthy...thin...life..:hi:

So hard to get the protein!

I was banded on October 27. I knew I was going to have a problem with the protein drinks because of the smell and taste. I found a web site Bariatriceating.com and ordered some of their unflavored pure protein powder. I can mix this with my yogurt, soups or milk and get my protein with out the taste and smell of the regular whey powders. 2 scoops is 24 grams. It also does not change the consistency of the food. Good luck. Diane:thumbup:

    16 days to my operation

Sarcaticandsmart, Congratulations on your decision to have Lap-band surgery. I was banded on October the 27. My suggestions for the next 16 days is to follow your doctors orders on the pre-diet. It gives you a nice jump start on your weight loss and prepares you for learning portion control. During my two weeks before surgery I was both excited and nervous. I had never had surgery before and must admit I was scared. I have a long way to go but am so excited to get started, I am tolerating liquids well and still struggle with my protein shakes because I am not a sweet drink person. I strongly suggest you take these next 16 days and find a protein drink you like because taking in your protein is very important to your weight loss and health. I found some unflavored, no odor powder I like that I can mix in just about anything I drink and it does not change the consistency or flavor. Good luck on your journey. Wish I had made my sooner.:hi: Diane
