    Port area question

Hi there. Wondering if anyone has experienced having pain in the port area after doing abdominal work outs? And, if so how long did it take the muscles to finally settle down & the pain to lesson? I'm 3 months post op and while i realize that i'm working muscles that have worked this hard since contractions during delivery almost 7 years ago, but the pain i have after wards around my port can be quite unbearable sometimes. All my ab muscles themselves are sore, but that i can understand as that it's a new routine and they are rebuilding & getting stronger. Do you think it's all just related & it will get easier as time passes & they get stronger? I do vary my exercise so it's not back to back ab workouts, but like tonight i actually shy'd away from doing it cause i didn't want to be in pain tomorrow. I did ask the doc last time i was in, 12/28, and he said that i can't hurt it or pull off the walls from working out, but since my next appt had to be rescheduled for another 3 weeks, i'm just looking to see if any one has thoughts in the mean time. Thanks

    New at this

Gas X strips did nothing for me. To relieve the pressure, I walked & walked around the house & i lived with the heating pad. That helped me greatly, especially at night. Seemed to keep it all moving. Here's a thought on the pain where the band might be...stop pressing to see if you feel it. LOL Seriously i laugh when i read this one because it reminds me of the joke that goes..."Doctor doctor, my finger hurts when i poke something. And the doctor goes...well stop poking things with it then". I do realize that might not be what you mean by feeling it though, but i just thought it a little funny tonight. No offense....hehe The band is in there, it isn't going anywhere. Things are swollen in there. They've been manipulated & pulled, banded and they need to heal. Hope you feel better soon!
  6. Mell, no one mentioned what your diet might be. Are you keeping a journal & watching what choices you make & how much? I'm not sure what your diet is, but if you aren't doing that, it might help to see where one of the problems are. Keep track of your calories, protein, water and exercise. It's easy to look back & say "yeah, i ate this this & that" but when you have to write it you say "WOW, i didn't remember to write everything down or how much extra i had". It helps keep me in check. If you are still hungry, perhaps adjust the protein, maybe you aren't getting enough. Maybe it's head game & if that's the case, you have to know you are eating the right kinds of food and in the right amounts and then win the battle within. For me, the band isn't at restriction yet, but by controlling my intake & exercising faithfully, the weight is coming off and i know that if i should need it, i will get a fill. You can do it, just don't give up. Good luck!

    How Did I Gain??? UGG!!!

I think everyone hit most of the points i would've suggested. I would only add, don't discount the nuts completely, (they have the good fat/oil) just make a healthier choice as a snack and make sure you weigh it & stick to it if you really want them. Not something you want all the time but nothing wrong as a snack now & then. Good luck.
  8. The first few days i regretted it, questioned my decision just because of the gas pain, lack of sleep & just because i was so overall uncomfortable. I knew it would all pass, just needed time but i still grumbled...LOL Each day that i felt better, i became more confident with my decision. You are doing it most likely because you knew something needed to change and this was it. Hang in there, get through these next few weeks. Remember you are you, you are not me, or anyone else. Your goals have to be your own & you'll reach them at your own pace. Be realistic on goals. We had a challenge this past month, i set mine pretty high. (for me) Just about didn't reach it. I was worried. So for the next one, i backed off a bit, i realized i would rather make a goal & be pleasantly surprised passing it than not making it at all. This whole journey is a learning process, nothing about it is going to be perfect or the same for us all. Best of luck.

What will I physically be able to eat

I'm 3 months out and have lost 48 pounds. I have had 2 fills & haven't hit the sweet spot yet but not sure i need to right now. I'm controlling my diet by counting my calories (1200 daily) and exercising. If i want pizza, i make a salad first & then have a sliver of pizza and i do that with any food that might not be the best choice. That way i get my craving taken care of but in moderation. That said, i stay away from chips, pretzels and candy type things, but if the boys have something, i might sneak a nibble. For now, this works for me & i'm reaching my own personal goals. If for some reason that the weight loss slows down, then i'll readjust & keep moving forward. Good luck with your journey!

I got this scale a while back at Bed Bath & Beyond. I think the normal price was 40 or $50 but used a 20% off coupon. LOVE IT!

  16. Hi everyone! Sorry i didn't get to check in on Monday...busy weekend. My co-worker broke her leg so it's double duty for a while too. Anyway, i weighed in at 218.1 on Monday - don't worry about updating it right now. I'll re-post it with next Mondays. No loss, but no gain! I haven't been able to get exercise in so that's definitely on my list of "must dos" the rest of this week. I also seem to go a week or so without losing anything & then bam, quite a few pounds down. ALSO had to reschedule my doc appt due to being unable to get out of the office. Not sure i want a fill. I've been losing to this point, i'm not hungry and i can eat a right size meal & notice when i have too much by a very sick to my stomach feeling. Is it my sweet spot?? I don't know but i do want to talk to the doc, unfortunately they couldn't get me in for almost 3 weeks with my new schedule. I don't see me reaching my 214 by Monday, but i'm ok with that because with all your support & motivation i'm down 6 lbs more than i was before...WHOOHOOO! Ok, i'm done rambling. Have a good night everyone.

    Salad Dressing

Has anyone tried the wishbone vinaigrette salad spritzers yet? They have 4 kinds & i believe they are all about 10 sprays for 10 calories! LOVE THEM! Oops there's 5 kinds...i just looked. We are missing the Raspberry Bliss. We have the Ranch, Caesar Delight, Italian and Balsamic.
  18. That's a great idea! LOL What an awesome victory for everyone that shared! Congrats to all.
  19. please don't cry....look at that ticker! You've done great so far. Keep hanging in there! Can you call your doctor for an appt to discuss the possibility of needing a fill? I know you are watching your nibble food but maybe pull back from that a bit til the scale starts moving again. Are you exercising? Maybe if you can throw a routine in or try a new one that will help jump start your metabolism with the change you are making in your calorie intake.

    I just want to say....

    That's great!!!!

Just a word to the wise...

LOL That's why they give you that little pillow for your belly & tell you to pull it in as you laugh, cough & sneeze!

    Question..

Hi, I too have an office job. I had surgery on Monday & attempted to go a Halloween parade Wednesday night...NO GO! Thursday, tried to go into work for just a few hours...i made it a 1/2 hr. Just wasn't comfortable sitting in my chair and still had a lot of gas pain & discomfort from my incisions. Thursday night i did make it to a different parade and was able to enjoy it but headed home as soon as the last float passed. Felt better over the weekend and back to work that Monday with some minor discomfort but doable. I can say that i've had 3 c-sections and walked within hours after each. This was much easier than those, but the gas pain was much more bothersome. Use the pillow they give you to cough, sneeze or laugh because it really does help. And i lived with my heating pad until the gas pain was gone. That helped tremendously. It's hard to say what will work for you compared to others because we all tolerate things differently. I would say go with letting your body guide you. Prepare for needing more time than less and if it's not needed, hey that's a bonus. Good luck with the surgery & your journey.

    Caffeine

I don't remember the nutritionist specifically mentioning caffeine period but i could havve just ignored that part of the conversation. I gave up caffeine after becoming pregnant with my oldest some 14 yrs ago. Granted i do get a bit here & there with some foods, but pretty minimal. It's been caffeine free sodas ever since and we've never drank tea or coffee so it's not even a second thought to me.
