    March Madness Challenge

Tami checking in today at 205.8. Down a pound! I go in for an appt on Weds. I didn't take a fill last time, i think i'll ask for a little bit of a one this time. Exercising kicked my butt last week. Did some good workouts early in the week & then was pretty much too sore to do much of anything other than walking. Mixed feelings about that cause the workouts were good & i wasn't struggling but man my upper leg muscles burned all week long.

    In need of a pick-me-up!

You have some things you cant control but you also have a lot that you can. Put them to work for you. I love the clean out your kitchen approach. Get a fresh start with all the healthy foods you like. Might be a little more difficult living out of two places, but stop at the store on your way home & bring what you like. Pack lunches to work or try to pick healthier options when out & about & you have to grab food on the go. Remember portion sizes!!! No time to exercise, i get that. Give yourself a few extra minutes & start by parking at the bottom of the lot. Yep it sounds lame, but those extra steps will help, just like take the stairs instead of the elevator. Any time your body is moving you are burning calories. Try not to worry about keeping up with others but find your own schedule & what works for you. Maybe the process will be a little slower, but i'm sure you can find a way to make it work for you. Best of luck!

    EXERCISE IN TUMMY AREA

Wish i had the answer. I'm 4 months post op and my port area is still really tender when i work those muscles. I'm sure a little of it is the muscles working & that sort of soreness. I do notice that any type of exercise that places me on my stomach is uncomfortable. Not sure if that will ever change, if not i'll just have to adjust & work around it.

    The Sweetheart's Challenge

Tami checking in this morning at 209....didn't quite make the 208 but i'm awful bloated today & this past weekend. Also bought a pair of jeans & a few bras yesterday both in the next smaller size so it must mean i'm losing inches but probably gained a few in muscles due to the workout change up. I'll take it though! Bring on the next challenge....i want onderland for may anniversary in April! I'm ready!
  12. My exercise routine consist of 25 mins on the elliptical, zumba activities depending on how much time i have and i just added some free weights. I try to get 5 days in during the week. With the zumba, i have DVDs that are 45-60 mins long or a 20 min express workout or just abs or sculpting & toning. I like to keep it all mixed up. In fact, thanks to my oldest one we just ordered INSANITY - i can wait for that cause i know i'm getting my butt kicked big time, but i'm gonna give it a go & see how it does. I've lost 55 lbs since being banded at the end of Oct. I would suggest, keeping your current routine and after surgery adjust as needed to your comfort levels.

    The Sweetheart's Challenge

Hi Tami checking in. I'm at 209.6 for a few days now, but haven't been too active due to spending a lot of time in school gyms this week and weekend for wrestling. Hope to get it moving a little bit more this week. Great work everyone with their losses. Lets keep up the hard work.

    I'm kinda worried...

I know some people say the drier meats are harder, bread, scrambled eggs. The veggies i notice are broccoli, carrots and celery but if i take smaller bites & chew well, i can get them down. With every person being different though it's hard to say what you will find works & doesn't work for you especially if you take into account that fills are different for everyone too. I would say prepare for possibly having to give up some foods and if you find that's not the case..bonus! LOL

    3 Months Post Op

From the album: My Journey pictures

    1/25/11 - 3 months post surgery down 48 lbs.
  17. Tami_819

    I'm kinda worried...

I'm almost 4 months out and i have not vomited at all. Most comments i've read here regarding vomiting seem to come from being too full with the band. I think it must be very hard for some people to realize where the spot is that the band is too full or just right and it's simple trial & error with the fillings. Thankfully for me, i was able to notice right after my 2nd fill that i ate too much at one meal & got sick in my stomach & my eyes water immediately....only took once to learn that feeling & know how much was too much. Since then i have it happen 1 more time, simply misjudged on a salad no less, but the rest is just portion control. I can eat everything but raw veggies and they just take some extra chewing.
  18. My doctor never told me one thing or another regarding baths. I waited until the sterile strips came off & then i just didn't soak too long. I think if you really need one, the waterproof bandages are a great idea. Hubby had to use them for his shoulder surgery in the shower....worked great.

    JELLO AND WATER!

I tried to drink as much as i could the first few days. You are all swollen inside so it's probably not unusual that you can't eat/drink a lot. The one thing that help me with all the bloating and gas was to get walking as much as i could to move it around. Once that all settles down, you start feeling better & able to eat/drink some more.
  20. Absolutely! It must be a pencil eraser size for me to eat it. NOT! I'd be fibbing if i said i specifically cut up my food to that size cause i don't. I do try to remember to cut it up smaller than what i used to before surgery. I've been fortunate though because the only thing that seems a little harder to get down is raw veggies.
  21. Great advice on the to-go boxes when going out for dinner. I do that myself. I also try to plan ahead when going out for dinner by eating lighter during the day to give me some extra calories, just in case, and if it's a chain restaurant i try to look at the menu online first & compare the nutritional values so i know in advance what i'm eating. It's definitely a head game in the beginning. Stay strong though, you'll get it.

    i need hope :(

I'm sorry you were treated that way. You mentioned that the relationship has been a difficult since you decided to have the surgery. Not that it's an excuse for him, but is it possible he's feeling threatened by the "new" you that you are going to find? That he might get left behind? Men are just as hard to figure out sometimes as us women because we all know how well they share their feelings...LOL. Maybe he's just really insecure about where you are headed & this is his knee-gut reaction...again, not that its right to treat you in such way; but maybe he's scared too. A good relationship has to have communication. If he was a great guy & everything was good before this, then you owe it to yourself to talk to him, find out what's going on & why he's changing all of a sudden. If nothing else other than to say you tried to figure it out before walking away for good. You don't want to look back in a few years & say you just gave up, but that you tried. It's a change for both of you and you have to talk about what's going on. Best of luck! Take care of yourself.

    Its not working??

I haven't hit that restriction that everyone mentions yet myself, and just passed on a fill at the docs yesterday. I'm watching my calories, exercising and it's working for as the weight is coming off. It is work and I have to be in control of what i'm doing. There were a lot of great suggestions here and i'm sure you'll find something that works for you until you hit that restriction point you are happy with. In the meantime, try to get the Protein in so it keeps you feeling full longer and count calories and exercise. A log helped me greatly when i first started. Best of luck.

    Snacks??

I like yogurt, cheddar cheese, tuna fish, almonds & fresh fruit.
  25. Not sure if Reading is an option for any of you ladies, but i use the Reading Hospital Weight Management Center with Dr. Ceppa and Dr. Ku. I have not met Dr. Ku yet, but i do like Dr. Ceppa very much. I started my process in May of 10 & was banded in late October. I pushed it back a few weeks due to some camping plans we had to finish the season out but it could've been sooner having met all my requirements. The girls there were great about getting the info from the insurance company & making sure i met all my nutritionist appointments that were required., etc. Just a thought/option i'd throw out there.
