    A thread for Single Bandsters

I agree with Susan. You don't know how much time I spend wondering when I will run into my ex. I haven't seen him once since we broke up two years ago. That's pretty strange too, cause this is a small town. I always think I will freak out if I see him. I know he still lives in this town, because I couldn't take it anymore about a week ago. I called his mother's house in the late morning and he answered the phone. I had a feeling he was still living with her. When we first broke up when I coudln't help myself, I drove past her house to see if his truck was there. I really try hard not to do that though. It helps me to know he's still living there because then I think he's nothing but a loser living with his mommy. I know it's going to be REALLY uncomfortable for me, if I ever do run into him. Now, I think you should do exactly what Susan said. Just smile, say hi, and keep walking. Does he know this person is just a friend? If not, let him think you have just moved on.

Welcome Elizabeth! I know how frustrating it is. I went for 2 months not losing after my first fill. It basically did nothing except teach me to chew better so that food doesn't get stuck. I was still hungry all the time. This new fill has made a big difference. I told him to be aggresive with it and that I was tired of foolling around. I get full faster now and it stays with me longer. Before, I would get full fast but very hungry in two hours. I have lost 3 lbs since my fill on Monday. I hope that isn't going to be all I lose until my next fill though.

How is weight loss for people over 50?

I totally relate to eating under stress. The first thing I want when I am under ANY kind of stress is chocolate. I know once we get that "sweet spot" everyone talks about, it's all head hunger after that. Like I said, the only way I can eat right is not keep anything in the house. I can tell myself all I want when I buy it that I will eat it sensibly, but then I just go crazy. For instance, the 100 calorie snacks are a good idea in theory, but not when you eat three (or more) bags of them each time. It's really hard to socialize too. It's almost like I don't want to go anywhere because there is too much temptation out there. I have some of those kinds of friends that love to bake and eat junk food but don't have a weight problem. NO FAIR!

You want maximum results? Look here....

I got some stuff that they have taken off the market here in Oregon that made me really jittery. It was in all the otc diet stuff. I can't remember what it was now. I know that there is an herb (don't know how to spell it) that's mau hung or something like that, that's an appetite suppressant. I still have some of those and I will take one if I am going to a party or somewhere that I know there will be a lot of temptation.

These things actually work? I thought they were all just gimmicks. I definitely need someoething to boost my metablism. Usually appetite suppresants interfere with my sleep. I have horrible insomnia, and I can't take anything that would hype me up. But something that only increased my metobolic rate would be great! Where do you get it?

Hey it's nice to have a guy in here! We need men's opinion on things! I totally agree with you. I am lonely for affection, not sex. There's nothing like having someone to cuddle up next to and get big hugs from. I am sorry to hear about the girl that you felt was perfect for you. And it didn't sound like a rant at all.

You should go! Getting out IS good for you. I know when I am depressed, I need something to take my mind off of it for awhile.

I am excited to report that since my new fill I have lost 2 lbs. The fill really made a difference. I am not as hungry as fast. Ginger, are you watching your calories, and carbs? I know for me, one of the reasons I didn't lose the last 2 months was I would get discouraged from eating correctly and not losing. Then I would get mad and eat a bunch of sweets. I am hoping to get off that vicious cycle with this new fill.

    South Beach Diet Bandsters???

It's productive burp. It's when food gets stuck and basically you either throw up, or you burp and food comes with it. It's horrible when food gets stuck. It's painful. I don't even get why it happens. I thought the food was supposed to stay in "the pouch" and not go through the band, but sometimes my first bite I have something get stuck. I HATE it. It teaches you to really chew very well, and wait to you see how it goes down before taking the next bite.

Are you eating a lot of carbs? Some low fat things are still high calorie. t I can't lose at all if I eat too many carbs. I am really not one to give advice because I haven't lost anything in 2 months either. I am really hoping that is going to change now that I have had my 2nd fill. For the first time since I got banded, I was totally stuffed all day after lunch. I didn't even want to eat dinner because I was still full. I know it's not good to skip meals, so I had a protein bar. From what everyone says on here, it's very important to count calories. I hope you get some good advice from everyone else! It will help me too!

How is weight loss for people over 50?

The only thing I can do is not keep bad foods in the house. I bought some chocolate rice cakes that I thought would be good because 9 of them are 60 calories. The problem was, I ate the whole bag. The only way I can deal with head hunger is not to keep things in the house. I have a fudgesicle just about every night that is 40 calories. It's no sugar added and I believe fat free. I just got a fill that gave me restriction for the first time so I am probably not the person to ask. I haven't lost anything in the last 2 months and everything I lost was when I was on liquids for 4 weeks post op. So I am gung ho right now to eat as little as I can to start losing.

It IS weird how things get stuck. Can someone explain why that happens? Sometimes it happens with the first bite. I thought the whole purpose of not drinking with meals was to keep the food in "the pouch" Well if it's getting stuck, that means it's going through the band right away.

Thanks Joan. I just have to get my nerve up to post a profile somewhere. I don't think I am quite ready yet. I want to lose about 20 more lbs first. Plus I am not into long distance relationships, so it's not going to be all that easy for me to find someone. It's hard too because at 54, the guys I look at online that are 60 look like old men to me. I am not sure if I could handle someone too much younger than me. Going through the change of life really screwed up my sex life. I know someone younger wouldn't want to put up with that. It's a dilemma, because it's the older guys that are retired and willing to relocate. I hope when I lose a little bit more, I will feel good enough about myself to be ready to take the plunge and post a profile somewhere.

    Lower BMI Bandsters!

I got my second fill yesterday and I can really tell a difference. I haven't lost anything in 2 months and it's been such a struggle to keep off what I lost during my 4 weeks on the post op liquid diet. I had to be on liquids for 24 hours but I wasn't hungry at all. I just ate a tiny bit of dinner and had to give the rest of it to the dog. I could tell if I ate one more bite I would pb. I really hope I start losing now!

I am really excited that my new fill really feels different. I told him to be aggressive. He filled me to 2.5 and gave me a cup of water to drink and I couldn't get it down. I really didn't want to tell him, but he could tell I was having trouble. He took the .5 out and I can really tell the difference now. I can actually feel water moving through the band. I did liquids for 24 hours and I am supposed to do mushies for 24 hours. I just had a tiny piece of meatloaf I made from ground turkey and I am stuffed. I almost felt like I ate too much and gave the last bite to the dog. Maybe now I will start losing. How do you know if you are too tight, anyway? Some people have said they can't even feel the difference in a fill for 2 weeks. I hope it's not tighter in two weeks.

    Don't know why...

Do you just google Alpha and Delta brainwaves to find these? This is a very big problem in my life, so it would be so wonderful if I could find something to help me! Thanks!

Thanks everyone. It's good to know that I am not the only one that has this problem of trying to get over someone. The thing that's hard is I am 54 stinkin years old and I have never gone through this. My first husband was my H.S. sweeheart and I left him. We were just too young and I realize now that he was just my excuse to get out of the house. In those days, people just didn't live together like they do now. I was 19 when I got married and divorced at 21. My second husband had an accident at work and got killed on the job. He was the father of my two kids. They were 3 and 6 when he died. That was 20 years ago. My next boyfriend got stomach cancer and died. Then I was alone for quite a few years, and finally got the nerve to try the internet thing and met the guy that broke my heart. Do you know that it was easier to get over the death of two people I loved? They didn't leave me by choice. Plus they are dead, so I don't sit and wonder if they think about me. It's ridiculous how much time I catch myself wondering what he's doing and if he ever thinks about me. Sometimes I really feel like an idiot, when I try not to think about him and try to think about something else. It's been over 2 years and everything still reminds me of him. I HATE it! I really want to move on. Thanks for listening.

    just banded and regretful

Hi there, You haven't posted since you posted this, so I was wondering how things are going? I have heard that drinking warm Water loosens the band. Maybe you could try that. The band will loosen as you lose weight. From what I understand, there is a pad of fat around our stomachs. As we lose weight, that goes away. For now, I would try to drink warm things such as herbal tea, warm water, and Soup. You're supposed to be a on a liquid diet anyway at this stage. Maybe by making the liquids warm, you won't have that feeling you're describing. I hope so.

Thank you for the welcome! That made me feel good! My boyfriend broke up with me two years ago, and I feel like a complete idiot that I can't get over him. I keep wishing one day would pass where I don't think about him and wonder what he's doing. I know if I had someone else to think about, it would be easier. It's really hard to be middle aged and live in a really small town. It's really hard to meet people.

    this is so hard

Poodles, I went to that website, and they had some ocean waves in the background which I didn't find calming. The other one, which was supposed to be subliminal, I would guess you really can't hear anything? I could hear something about it being a sample, but I am curious what you can hear on the one you ordered? It would be strange to listen to something that's subliminal and have it sound as though it were blank or something.

We are both having fill on Monday. My dr. gives 3 free with the price of surgery. It's going to get expensive if I can't get it right with the next 2 fills.

    Be Honest....

Yea, I am used to the humidity from growing up in Chicago. The humidity in August in Mesa is nothing compared to Chicago. In Chicago in the summer it's like 95 outside with almost 100% humidty. My dad has a pool, and I take the kids and we go to the river or the Water parks. I was just there in Feb. and I was bored to death. That's why I like to come in the summer. There is more to do. I sure hope I have lost weight by then, and I am not having trouble with food sticking or pbing or any of that. It's scary to get another fill when I already have food stick. It's hard to learn to slow down and chew until it's liquid. I have never pbed but I hate it when food is stuck. It hurts until it finally passes through. It doesn't even make sense to me because I thought the food was supposed to stay in the pouch anyway. My daughter is an RN. As for your question about filling or unfilling, she really wants to learn to do it. I wouldn't let her though. I don't know what I would do in a situation like you described. I would hate to need an unfill and have nobody to do it. Last time, when I got my first fill, I left immediately for my dad's. That's when I first started experiencing food getting stuck. I thought "what have I gotten myself into?" I only have 1 1/4 cc in my band.
  24. Half a frozen meal? I definitely need a fill. I eat a South Beach chicken meal that's chicken and brocolli with no carbs or a lean cuisine same type of thing for dinner sometimes. I eat at 5:00 and at 8:00 I am starving. I do like those dannon sugar free yogurts. I think they are the best and they have splenda in them. I don't like to eat the yogurts with aspertane in them. It's supposed to be really bad stuff.

I don't eat rice or potatoes, bread, etc either. It's meat that gets stuck. I think it's because I take too big of a bite too. I have always eaten too fast. It's really hard for me to remember to slow down. It is that golf ball feeling when something is stuck. I hate it. I remember to slow down immediately if that happens! It's hard to remember to chew until it's liquid too.
