How is weight loss for people over 50?

I practically lived on Atkins low carb drinks and slim fast low carb drinks. I didn't mind them at all. With the vanilla slim fast, I added a little bit of orange juice and it kind of tasted like Orange Jullius. There are a lot of recipes on here in the food thread to make your own liquid protein drinks.

    Slow Losers - Unite!

Yes, unfortunately, I like to see the scale drop. I know my thighs are much smaller since I started my weight routine. I measured when I started 3 years ago and my thighs are 3" smaller around. I wish my waist and hips would do that though. I want my face to thin out too.

    what can YOU not eat?

A lot of people do have trouble with bread. You might be able to eat it if you haven't had a fill yet. Everyone does say to toast it. I ate some stuffed grape leaves even after I had my fill, but they don't have much rice in there. they are ground meat and rice.

I dropped a lb today after a very long plateau. I think I will probably lose extremely slowly. I guess that's okay as long as I am losing and not gaining.
  8. Hello all, I was banded at the end of Dec. I lost 22 lbs in the 4 weeks of being on liquids. I got my first fill, and I still didn't lose any more weight. It did teach me to slow down and chew the heck out of my food though. Recently I got another fill, and I lost 3 more lbs. I was again on liquids for 2 days after the fill, and that's when I lost the 3 lbs. Since then, I haven't lost anything. I am so afraid I am going to be on another long plateau. I drink over 64 oz of Water, but most days close to 100 oz per day. I follow the bandster rules by eating Protein first and a little bit of veggies. I wait an hour before drinking. I exercise 6 days a week. I started exercising 3 years ago in my last attempt to lose weight. Even though I was exercising, I wasn't losing. That's when I decided to get banded. I am very happy that I have lost some weight, but I keep reading on here of how much everyone else is losing. What does restriction feel like? Is it that you are full after a couple of bites? I have 2.0 in my 4cc band, and if you can offer any advice, I would sure appreciate it. I am not sure if I should get any more fill or what.

    Low Fat Low Carb

Is the low carb friends website one on here? Southbeach does stress low carb and low fat. You're right about that! I wish I knew more about the core program. I have only heard of counting points and it sounds confusing to me.

You are so lucky to be taller. I am only 5'2" so I look short and fat. I wear an xlarge top and about a 20 jeans too. Are you happy with your fill? Everyone tells me I need more, but I am really afraid. I get stuck on a regular basis.

Jill, I had that same problem when I first got my fill. It made me really afraid to get another fill. Are you cutting your food into teeny tiny pieces and chewing until it's liquid? That's what I have to do. It's a pain , but so is that golf ball feeling. I really HATE that. I am able to eat enough to stay full longer now that I do that.

:straightDynamoMini has 4-16 as her band date. So I guess I replied to the wrong person. :phanvan

I am confused because it says you got banded 4-16. Did you end up getting your band sooner?

I love you gals. You are all so encouraging. To tell you the truth, the reason I never have a picture posted on any of my profiles is because of my ex boyfriend that broke my heart. I met him online and I loved him so much when he walked out on me. It makes me think he will think I am " hard up" His daughter and I were very close and she used to call me all the time, even after we broke up. I told her I had another boyfriend because I didn't want him to think I was sitting around the house crying over him.(but I was) It's been over 2 years now, so I suppose my pretend boyfriend and I could have broken up. Crispy are you at a good weight now? You sig line says how much fill you have but not your weight loss. We have exactly the same fill in there. I am afraid to get anymore. You are getting a lot of action with your profile, so I would like to see it. I will pm you. You have a great advantage, living in Boston. I live in a tiny town in the middle of nowhere. I really don't want a long distance relationship eitherl. The pickings are slim here. Joan, That is so scary. That's the first time I ever heard of anything like that happening, even though everyone warns people about meeting guys online. I think you should file a police report too. What a pig! Kristi, I do exercise like crazy but I don't seem to be losing. I do the weight machines and cardio. I am 54 and they say it's harder to lose the older we get. It sucks. Thanks so much all of you for responding to me. I have been in other threads where everyone responds to each other but ignores me. It makes me feel like cr@p!

I am sorry but I love hearing stories like that. It makes me feel better to know I am not the only one. I am exercising like crazy and doing everything everyone tells me, and the scale never budges. I might try going on the liquid diet I was on the first 4 weeks just to see if it makes any difference. It drives me nuts to see people who were banded the same time as me and have lost 60 lbs. I have lost 24 and 22 of them were from the 1st 4 weeks of being on a liquid diet.

Thank you for posting that. It's a very interesting article. I am sure my age has something to do with it, the fact that I am so short, and the hormones play a part in it too. I'll just keep plugging away at it. I might try to do liquids for a week and see what happens. Wasabubblebut is losing great and has to stay on liquids because she is having band problems. I was surprised I lost 22 lbs in four weeks on liquids.

That's fabulous Kristi! Is that the secret to losing? I should try to run more than use the stair stepper and the ellipitcal if that's true. I am so tired of not losing. I am too afraid to post a profile anywhere until I get a lot more of this weight off. too many times when someone asked for my picture, that was the last I ever heard from them. That was very depressing.

Congratulations DynamoMini! I had to be on liquids for 4 weeks before starting mushies. You're lucky!

What do you mean? I am having so much trouble figuring all of this out. If you can clue me in as to what to do to lose, I would be thrilled. Right now I am beginning to think I need to go back on the liquid diet, even though they say to avoild liquid calories.

I wish I had free fills for a year, but I don't . I have 3 free. He had me filled
to 2.5 and I was scard because the water felt like it was just sitting there.
He could tell I was scared and took part of it out. NOw I regret it. I think the reason I was having meat stick was I wasn't cutting it small enough. I thought if I chewed and chewed til it was goo, that was enough. Now I cut meat really tiny and still chew like crazy and I haven't been sticking the last two days.

My car is broke down and I am going to a bigger town to get a car. As soon as I have it, I am going to buy a food scale. It's hard to guess the calories on a slice of turkey meatloaf, when I can't weigh it. I wouldn't think it would be more than 3 oz though.

I went to your profile and you live in the Pacific NW like me. I live on the OR coast.

Thanks for trying to help me. This board is a life saver. I am hungry in the evenings. I eat dinner ususally around 5 and I am hungry by 8-9. I am really afraid to get another fill. I get stuck pretty often. I have been learning to cut my food smaller and that's helping. The problem is, I don't know how much or how little I am supposed to eat. They say restriction and I don't know what that means. The first couple days after my fill, I did. I ate a salad, and I was so stuffed I was uncomfortable. It was a small salad. Then they said it's because there is swelling after a fill. You have 2.3 in there? I have 2.0. Maybe I do need a tiny bit more.

Where are all of you meeting people to date? I had a profile on yahoo personals and match at two separate times. The problem I had was the other party didn't want to pay the money, so they couldn't read my message if I had sent them one. They make you join if you want to read and unfortunately, around here everyone seems to be too cheap to do that.
