How is weight loss for people over 50?
Oregondaisy replied to debi717's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am in slow losers and here both. So far weight loss for me over the age of 50 has been very disappointing. I started at 215 and the doctor said I wouldn't lose as fast as someone that started out with more to lose. I am having a resting metobolic test on Wed. and he doesn't want me to exercise until after the test. So I get the day off tomorrow. -

The ones at Walmart were veggie chips not crackers. I read the ingredients and they were basically just potato chips colored orange. They were with the chips, not the crackers. I got my crackers. You're right. Those Fiber crackers were so nasty, my dog wouldn't even eat them. They went right in the garbage. Plus, they really didn't have that much fiber in them. 2g is nothing. The Protein bars I got from them are yummy. They are chocolate mint. yum yum. I didn't taste anything else because I already had dinner and I was full. -
I don't have a clue if we are moving the Dec. banster thread or not. I saw the dr. today and I am not very encouraged. He said it's calories in, calories, out. I am tired of eating so much protien and not enough fruits and vegetables. According to him, it doesn't really matter anyway, it's the calories that count. He is going to do a resting metobolic test on Wed. and doesn't want me to exercise until after the test. So I guess I get the day off tomorrow.

maybe now that she is going to be your sister in law, you two can talk things over at some point. If you are at all close to your brother, you can tell him that you miss her friendship, and hope that things can be worked out.

Geepers, if that's what it takes to lose weight, I am lost. I don't want to be that tight. I eat tiny breakfast and lunches and dinners, but I don't get sick. I am having a resting metobolic test on Wed. Looking forward to that.

I don't know anything about how to get insurance to pay for it. I had an exclusion on my blue cross plan too. That's why I got a 2nd mortgage on my house and paid Dr. Tersigini $10,000.00 I don't have to worry about aftercare, driving anywhere for problems, etc. I am lucky. He is a great dr. and I practically live down the street from his office. I was there today, as a matter of fact. Are you getting the band even if your insurance doesn't pay for it?

I have been exercising like a mad woman and still not losing very well. I am going in to see the dr. today and talk about my very slow weight loss. I am eating right, and it should be coming off.

Bubble, Did you read the package for the carb content? I saw some veggie chips at Walmart and the carb count was really high. I don't have a Trader Joes here, where I live, in the middle of nowhere. I would like to order them if they are low carb/ low calorie.( Knowing how you eat, they probably are ) The ones at Walmart were called veggie chips and dyed orange, but the main ingredient were potatoes! -
Welcome!! We would love to get to know you, so keep on posting? When did you get your band?

Thanks Terry, I know exactly how you feel. I was really excited today because after doing 20 min on the elliptical, then 20 min on the stair stepper, I was able to jog for 10 min on the treadmill. In the past, I have only been able to jog for 5 min and I watch the time and think I am going to die. This time I saw 5 min go by, and I felt really good and was able to keep going for 5 more min. So I finished up my hour of cardio with 10 min of jogging and 10 min of power walking. It IS extremely frustrating to do all this, and eat right, drink the water, and never see the scale move. I have to keep telling myself that someday it's going to go down again.

I just went back and started reading the beginning of this thread and it really helped me. Even if I am a slow loser, I am not alone. Some of the slow losers are still losing. I have to keep telling myself, even if I am a slow loser, I would have gained more by now. So in the end, even if I lose slowly, it's better than gaining quickly!

Yes, keep us posted. My car broke down so I don't have any extra money right now. As soon as I do, I'll be getting one. I'd love to hear how it's going with yours until then. -
Vitamins?? What do you take??

A lot of people swear that Biotin really helps with the hair loss, so I started taking it. I am not losing any hair, but I am not losing any weight either. -
That's insane. There are plenty of people that eat like you're talking about. Some people really can't handle bread. It depends on how tight your band is. You can make your Protein shake any way you want to. You can buy them in a can already made if you want to. I am really not one to give advice. I am not losing well with the band, even though I am doing everything I am told. But- I have read many many posts on people that are losing well and are not only doing Atkins eating.

I do a lot of cardio and weight training. I don't eat the same thing every day, although I do tend to eat the same breakfast. I am not a big breakfast eater. I never was. I tend to eat a Protein bar for breakfast but sometimes I have Kashi Crunch Cereal or Fiber one. For lunch and dinner it's different. Sometimes I eat a frozen South beach or Lean Cuisine sometimes iI make meatloaf out of ground turkey, etc. I will try to find Vinesqueen. I guess that's a person that posts here?

can anyone explain "sticking"
Oregondaisy replied to jbacher's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It feels like you have swallowed a golf ball. For me it's right at the top of the ribs. If I raise my hands up high in the air, and walk around, I can usually feel it finally pass on down. -
I have to agree. Be the bigger person. Chances are it will be a busy day, and you won't have to interact with her much. It would be hard to believe that nobody else from your family wouldn't be invited. You don't have to sit with her, and you can leave always leave early and say that you have some other plans that you need to get to, or are coming down with a cold or migraine, something like that- whatever.

Days missed due to surgery?
Oregondaisy replied to teacherchick's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on a friday and Monday was New Year's day. I could have easily gone back to work on Monday but it was a holiday. I never had any pain what so ever. The day after surgery I was out walking three dogs. When I came home from surgery I was on lap band talk immediately. I know others have had more pain than me, so everyone's different. For the most part, unless you have a strenuous job, people don't need much time off work. -
I abslolutely hate cottage cheese. There aren't many foods I hate and the two are cottage cheese and eggs. I really don't think I eat too much because I tried eating a South Beach meal last night with chicken and broccoli and I couldn't eat all of it. I ate about 3/4 of the chicken and a few bites of broccoli. They are 260 calories for all of it. The chicken has a spaghetti type sauce on it. It's really good. I didn't put anything on the broccoli either, so I had less than 260 calories for dinner.

A thread for Single Bandsters

I am glad to hear that. No sense in putting yourself though that. Was this just a one day class? -
Does anyone know how much we are supposed to be able to eat at one time? I can't relate to the 1 cup or 3/4 of a cup. I guess I could put a lean cuisine in a cup and see how much fits in there. Last night I couldn't eat all of it though. Can someone tell me what kinds of meals they eat for dinner that seems to be the correct amount? thank you!

The ACTI-TRAINER (like bodybugg)
Oregondaisy replied to SillyWillyMommy's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I am definitely going to get one of those. I exercise like crazy and have no clue how many calories I am burning. This sounds great.
