Edit Rant

I tried highlighting like you said and I could not get the smiley faces to go away. The edit needs to be fixed for sure!! Those smileys are annoying. We should be able to bring up our post and fix what we want.

Are you talking about the garlic and herb parmesan crackers? I thought those were good. Can you look on the label of the veggie chips and see if the first ingredient is potato? I am just glad you're eating more. It sounds like your tummy problems are better. I am so glad.

Thanks Crispy, That picture that you saw is old. I still have about 10 lbs to go down and I'll be at where that was taken. I am not in any real hurry. I look on match and yahoo and there isn't one picture on there that even sparks my interest. There is another place called singlesnet.com. I paid for a month and they said they had a money back guartentee. So after a month I said I wanted my money back because hardly any men from my area were listed on there. They ended up giving me a year for the price of a month instead. I may try that again.

    December Bandsters

I am excited that I finally dropped 4 lbs this past week. I just have to keep telling myself this is going to be a life long journey, if I want to lose and keep it off. I am glad I learned to enjoy exercising.
  5. I have a card and I use it all the time. I am going to use it tonight, in fact. Mine says to please let this person eat from the senior menu or the kid's menu, and goes on to explain lap banding. I use it to order from the senior menu. The kids menu is usually hot dogs and mac and cheese. The senior menu is great. It's the same as everyone else's just smaller porions.

I try really hard not to eat anything fattening. I have given up sweets completely. I know when I eat them, I just want more. Once I get started, it's hard to stop. I would rather just keep them out of my diet. If I have ice cream, then I crave it all the time. I go to the movies all the time and felt deprived if I didn't have popcorn. Now I just take a crystal lite which is a treat for me, because normally the only thing I drink is water.
  7. I was losing weight like crazy during the liquid stage and that helped a lot. Getting on the scale every day and seeing the lbs go down every day was a great motivator
  8. I am too used to going to the gym. I never even asked when I could start exercising. I started back the 2nd week after being banded. I wasn't at the intensity that I was used to , but I couldn't just stay home on the couch.

    How many days before Mushies...

I was on a liquid diet for four weeks. Never had to do clear liquids past the first day. I could have anything I could get in a straw for 4 weeks.

How is weight loss for people over 50?

Micelle, what are you doing for fiber? The high protein diets don't have enough fiber for me. That's why I added more fruit back. I am tired of what happens to me with no fiber in my diet. And I am tired of benefiber. It's not good for our bodies not to get enough fiber. How do you get yours?

That's exciting, Crispy! Have you talked to him before, or only emails? I still haven't posted a profile yet. I'd like to lose 20 more lbs before I get started with that. I lost 5 this week after such a long plateau. I hope it doesn't take me another 2 months to drop again.

I just looked on the label. 3 crackers= 80 calories. Thate helps me not want to eat them very often.

    Banded but not losing weight

I just asked my dr. about the shoulder pain last time I saw him. He said it wasn't from the band but I know it is. Other bandsters complain about it too. Mine comes and goes. It was much worse after my last fill for a few weeks. It's also worse in the morning and seems to go away in the daytime. I am sorry you're stuggling. We were banded 2 days apart! I have to totally keep sweets out of the house. I just try to eat small meals and if I am hungry I have a healthy snack. I have dropped a few lbs this week and I hope I don't get stuck again on a long plateau. You'll lose as long as you aren't eating the wrong foods. I was cheating here and there in the beginning but I knocked that off when I wasn't losing.

Yes, it says for 3 crackers it's 80 calories. That's more than 25 calories per cracker. But they're so good!

How is weight loss for people over 50?

I am only 5'2" so that has a lot to do with why it's so low. I didn't ask them how fast I would lose. I know for me, all my life, no matter what I do, it comes off slow and I gain really easily. That's why I got banded. I was exercising like crazy but not losing. The band has helped cut my portion sizes down. After being on this plateau, I have lost this week, so I am happy. I hope I don't go on another long plateau.

How is weight loss for people over 50?

It didn't come out the same. It said my resting metobolic rate was almost 1400 calories but it's 1200, which means in order to lose, I need to eat 1,000. Of course exercising helps a lot with that too.

I go to the gym 6 days a week and do weight training and between 45 and 60 min per day of cardio.

Welcome Suzie! It's nice to talk with other single people. I do enjoy it. It's amazing but we all have the same feelings, no matter how much difference we are in age.

How is weight loss for people over 50?

With the resting metobolic test they put something like a close pin on my nose. Then thet put a tube in my mouth to breathe in and out of for about 20 min. It tells you how many calories you burn just sitting there. It was hard because I felt like I was choking. It told me that in order to lose weight, I have to eat 1,000 calories per day.

    Banded but not losing weight

That's why I didn't tell all that many people that I got the band. I didn't want people asking me about it. I had that resting metobolic test. They plug up your nose with a thing like a close pin and put a tube in your mouth and you breathe for 20 min in and out from your mouth. It was hard to do. I felt like I was going to choke. It determined in order for me to lose weight, I need to eat 1,000 calories per day.

    Another "Old Timer" With Issues

Carlene, I am sorry to hear about all your troubles. It really makes me want to stay at my current level of saline and not rush into fills. Having the band is such a learning experience. Thank you for sharing your experience with all of us newbies. I hope with exercise you can drop back down to where you want to be.

    Slow Losers - Unite!

I am excited that after a very long plateau, I finally got on the scale this morning and have dropped 3 lbs. I went to the dr. Monday and they are going to do a resting metobolic test tomorrow morning which is supposed to tell me how many calories per day I need to eat in order to lose. I don't know if I lost finally just because it was time, or if it's because I have done anything differently lately. I did add more fruit into my diet, because I was really tired of just protein and veggies and still not losing.

    Banded but not losing weight

I will let you know tomorrow after I have the test. I am not sure how it works, but someone told me it's really not all that accurate. I hope they are wrong. I get free aftercare for a year after my surgery, so at least I am making my dr. do some work!

    Anyone in Oregon??

I got banded 12-29 and have lost 30 lbs. It's coming off slowly, but I know I would have just gained more weight by now rather than being down 30.

I started out with a lower BMI and he says it comes off slower for people who have less to lose. Also, I think it comes off slower for people in my age group.

Feel free to ask anything you want about Dr. Tersigini.

    Banded but not losing weight

I am happy to report after a very long plateau, I dropped 3 lbs this morning. I have no idea if it's because I did something different, or it was just time. I went to the dr. yesteday to discuss this slow weight loss. He agreed that I don't need a fill. I get full really fast. He is going to do a resting metobolic test which is supposed to tell me how many calories I need to be eating to lose. I know exactly how you feel. I paid out of pocket for this too. I have to keep telling myself that by now I would have gained more weight. I think the important thing with the band is to not eat badly and get disgusted if we don't lose. That was my problem b4 banding. I would eat right and not lose and think I might as well eat what I want, I am not losing anyway. The band has helped me control my portions.
