  1. I have no experience yet as I am pre sleeve, but I was wondering about those energy shots, the ones with vitamins,,not sugar or caffeine?
  2. Look at you! New body, New hair doo YOU LOOK FANTASTIC!
  3. Don't be discouraged, weight comes off of ALL places, not just our gut. It took me 40 pounds to need new pants, but what I did not realize and think this is where pics and measuring will help you is that you will see a difference in your face, chin, neck, arms, upper chest ( Steve I know you don't have this problem, but I am a bra size smaller) butt and thighs and hips. I had been wearing the same size pants for 10 years, yet had gained about 50 pounds in that time, so going by clothes size can be very deceptive, you really have to look at the WHOLE picture (body). Chin up! 54 pounds is a wonderful achievement!
  4. You dont have a max out of pocket expense?
  5. Tomorrow is my first day of the 2 week liquid diet. Now that is all so real I AM FREAKING OUT! I am having anxiety about money, anxiety about being denied disability, anxiety just because. I know in the long run I will be happy, but tonight is a little rough.
  6. I used Ortho tri low, did the trick for acne.
  7. Thank you for your reply. I guess I am kinda in freak out mode tonight as I start my liquid diet tomorrow and it is all becoming very very real. It seems I fought so long and hard and now that it is happening it is kinda freaking me out. I want to take 6 weeks off work. I have 2 disability policies and hope not to be out any cash in the long run. How fast did they pay you?
  8. I have hospital imdemity and short term disability from Aflac. I am reading tonight that they will pay 750 for a gastrectomy if medically necessary. Has anyone here had any luck getting Aflac to pay hospital or short term dsability.
  9. Thanks Susan, I am remarried and my husband will be there with me so that is covered. I am just trying to figure out if I should share with my kids, maybe I should just say screw it, my ex is my ex, not part of my life the hell with what he has to say!
  10. I went to the seminar in July, had my initial consult Aug th. They did blood work and H. Pylori then. The next week I went to the psych eval and then when I passed that it was all submitted to my insurance. About 3 weeks later I was approved. I then went for a sleep study, an ultra sound and Nutritional counseling one time and my insurance has a lady call me every couple of weeks who goes over diet changes and how things are going. I also had to do a support group meeting ran by the doctors office one time. I am now scheduled for Nov rd and they said part of my pre op will be an upper and lower GI.
  11. How have folks handled needing new clothes as the weight goes away? I have lost 40 pound pre op and had to get a pair of jean that would not fall down, but i am thinking that this could get expensive as the weight comes off. I hate to spend a lot on things I will not wear for more than a couple of months. Some folks suggested Goodwill, but the thought of wearing a strangers things kinda bugs me. What did you all do??? Believe me when I reach goal, I will splurge on a new wardrobe! (FYI) I wear uniforms at work so work clothes are not an issue.
  12. I must selfishly admit that I am hoping for 6 weeks because I have to work holidays in my line work 6 weeks would take care of Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years. I have worked the last 10 years of holidays and I am ready to enjoy the season! Also where I work it is a gluten fest at the holidays and I just want to avoid that.
  13. Well since posting this I was told by a co worker everyone knows. HOW???? I am not sure, but it is what it is. I am a 911 dispatcher and there are 6 of us so it is a small center. I decided to go to each person that was mentioned and say " Hey I was told you know about this, it is a personal journey and in the future if the topic comes up I would prefer you state that and leave it alone." I don't want all the cops talking about it just yet. I figured in time they would all put 2 and 2 together, but right now I can only deal with what I have to go through without all the other pressure. As for the kids, I keep going back and forth in my head. I can see where my daughter would be hurt, but my 18 yo son, well he's 18 nuff said. I have been divorced for 11 years, but the sob is just nasty and now that all the kids are grown I want to give him nothing to say about me. Unfortunately the kids still feed into the "telling Dad" thing.
  14. I am scheduled for Nov 23rd with Dr Guske in Hoffman Estates Il. Any other Kane Center folks here?
  15. Is it your Doctor or work dictating your time off? I am taking FMLA and I hoping the doc will fill the paperwork out for 6 weeks and that I will be able use my disability insurance.
  16. We tried that with my daughter with the Nu Whey,,, it was nasty!
  17. Hi there, fellow Pcos sister here. As you know that makes us insulin resistant. I have taken off 40 pounds by eliminating sugars of all types and eating Turkey chef salads A LOT. The trick is to keep your Blood sugar level. I have replaced breakfast with a high quality protein drink and some days I also skip dinner and have a protein drink. No breads and lost of high protein. Out for dinner? Chicken and veggies only. Lunch? tuna fish, plain. Find something you like without the carbs and your blood sugar will stabilize and then the pounds come off. Best of luck to you, I know the battle is touch and temptations lurk everywhere.
  18. I am scheduled for Nov 23rd, (yeah so much for Thanksgiving). Any way my dilemma is with my kids, they are 18 and 22. They do not live with me and I am not sure I want to share with them as there is an ex husband component and I feel they will tell him and I just don't want him to have any knowledge of this surgery what so ever, I consider it a personal journey. I know they will tell him if I tell them, BUT obvousily I am going to miss Thanksgiving this year and I am considering telling them I have the flu that day. Then there are the people I work with. I have shared with one close coworker, however my work set up is that we have to eat at our work desks and there is one other lady in our room who will obviously notice I am not eating what I used to anymore. I am nervous about telling her because she has always been a snide person who makes comments about peoples weights and judges what they eat. I have been dieting and have taken off 40 pounds recently, so the additional weight loss will not be hard to explain to those who don't see me eating differently. So while I am very excited I have a date, I am have these few issues I am not sure what to do with. Any all advice is welcome.
  19. Thanks all, I have BCBS PPO in IL through the Carpenters union. I just heard, I HAVE a date! NOV 22! I started all this in July, I went to a "required" seminar where they take you from there to book your first appointment. I had my first Apt on Aug 9th and then about a week later went a pshch eval that I thought was rather easy. Then I waited and waited on the insurance, I guess they take you on a case by case basis and then they called and said I was approved about 3 weeks later, but as I stated above for the wrong surgery. So then 3 more weeks go by and I got approval for the right surgery. From there I have pushed straight through and took days off just to jump all the hoops. Support group meeting, nutritional counseling., phone counseling, and the pulmonologist was last week and today I have a date! I am excited and nervous all in one.
  20. The Kane Center I am going through requires one pre and one post op support group meeting. I have been to the pre support and I must admit I learned alot, but the one thing I noticed was that there seemed to be a lot of folks there who have had their surgeries and and well seemed to be "hooked" on support groups. I don't want food and my impending weight loss to be an obsession, just for it to become the norm. How many here go to support groups, or did? Do you prefer to get your support other places? I am all for learning, just not obsessing.
  21. Hello all! This is all becoming very real now. I went for my initial consult on August 9th. I asked for the the Sleeve procedure and then I was told my insurance was a case by case bases so they put in a request. I went to the Pschy evaluation and passed the oral and test just fine. I received a letter about a month later that I was approved so I called the insurance woman to ask what is next and she said for Bypass, right? I was like NO, Sleeve. She replied with well your doctor does not usually do that. I was dumbfounded as he went over it in detail with me, showing me a pen and saying that is the size my stomach would be, gerhlin ect, ect. So then they had to resubmit to my insurance company with the right code, in the meantime I went to the sleep study and have been having phone counseling on nutrition once a week per my insurance company. Yesterday I heard the sleeve was approved and I set up the lung doctor appointment for the 28th and and ultrasound for the 26th and a session with a Dietitian on Nov 3. The insurance woman at the doctors office said to call her if the lung doctor clears me that day and we will set up a date. I am really pushing for this year as I am looking at no deductible vs 3000 if I go into next year. I do not anticipate any problems at the lung doctor as I have never smoked, don't have asthma and they told me there was no apnea on my sleep study. I have been trying out all kinds of Protein drinks and have begun to substitute some for meals. In Jan of this year I was at 271 and in August I was down to 238, I was totally shocked. I can only contribute that to giving up Coca Cola and really paying attention to healthy options. I am on pins and needles hoping there are no more delays should they find something on my ultrasound or visit with lung doctor. At this point in time, besides getting as date before the end of the year, my biggest concern is my husband. I am really starting to resent him as he needs this surgery more than I do and all he keeps worrying about is when I will be able to go out to eat with him again. (it is a daily thing for him) I have gone over everything with him and yet he keeps acting like it is not real or I will just give in. Honestly I am willing to give up my marriage to be healthy if he does not come around. He refuses to go to support meetings with me and really does not listen when I tell him what I need to do for this. Is anyone else here with the Kane Center in IL??
  22. Hello, I have been approved by bcbs il physically and pscychology. Can anyone tell what a comprehesive weight loss progam is? I have been losing since Jan down to 238 from 271 by following what my doc told me to do, but no real program per say. Will that be counted?
  23. Hello, I have been lurking here for a while and reading and reading. In July I went down to take care of my daughter and grandbabies after she had gastric bypass. She had no complications, I was a bit shocked to see how much pain she was in the first week. Her biggest struggle however was breaking up with food and trying to get her protien down. Which leads me to the first of many questions I have. I am looking at the sleeve for myself and I read how people are having trouble with getting the protien down before their surgery. I understand afterwards but I am confused why it is a problem before and why would you need to? I had my initial consulation on August 9th and I am physically approved by my insurance and I just went for the pysch eval and the doctor said she seen no reason why she would not recommend me for the surgery. So now I wait to see what else the insurance company will want from me. I have to tell you I was all gun ho (sp?) until I read the complications section and I have to tell you I have been a bundle of nerves since I read it, not sure any longer if I should. I fear the leak and the possiblity of a long recovery. (fear of complictions, fear of finacial problems from it, dying) Thank you all for ahead of time for letting me state my concerns, feeback is more than welcom.
