  1. Hi guys!

Just checking in with everyone to see how they have been. I know most of us are on pre op diets now, or will be soon as Monday is the first! Hard to believe that we will be banded in 11 short days!

I hope that everyone holds up through Halloween, and fights the urge to raid the candy bowl tomorrow.

I was just thinking today how surgery is only 11 days away... can't believe it. So excited and nervous at the same time. I think I'm doing okay with my diet... could be a little bit better but def better then how I used to eat.

By the way... what time is everyone's surgery on the 10th? Mine is scheduled at 8am and I have to check into the hospital at 6am. Yikes that's early! :wink2:

  2. Well, everyone. I am down 5 pounds since Tuesday! How'd I do it you may ask? I HAVE PNEUMONIA. That's right, pneumonia. I haven't been eating much of anything, but trying to drink to keep hydrated. My local MD ALMOST put me in the hospital today, but he let me go with a shot of Rocephin and z-pak. If my fevers don't break by Monday, I will be in the hospital.

He wants to get me better before the 8th (my surgery day) otherwise they probably won't do the surgery. As of current, my temp is 102 F. Nice, huh? Grrrrr.....

Awww so sorry to hear that. You defiantly don't want to put your body through a surgery if you are not 100%!

Get lots of rest and hopefully you will get better.

    Keep us posted!

  3. so I know Ive only been on my liquid diet for 9 days, but IM still scared that I wont lose the 15 lbs that I need to have the surgery. I know they said if I didnt lose quite 15 it was okay, but I dont want to be that person. It sucks too because our scales are different, so Im not sure when to worry. I was 283 on their scale (mine 280) but I was weighing without clothes on at home. Now Im weighing with clothes on and am 275. ARGH! I dont know whether i should deduct 3 lbs or not. Maybe I should go back to weighing naked and taking off the 3lbs. This is causing me such undo stress!

Don't be so worried about it. If it was easy to lose weight we wouldn't be here. I think that you should just try your best and not worry so much about what's on the scale. Even if you lose 5 pounds it still makes a difference in shrinking your liver and helps for an easier surgery. I think that you should follow your diet... don't weigh yourself... and wait for the doctor office to weigh you. By weighing yourself at home and not seeing what you want to see could discourage you. By the way if you are stressed do you know its impossible to lose weight?? Quit stressing!!

Take care and keep us posted!

  4. Wow! Everyone is November 10.

Mine is scheduled for November 8. My pre-op diet only consists of liquids the day before the surgery. BUt, they tell me that they'd like me to lose 12 pounds if possible before the surgery date and that I am supposed to follow a "high-Protein diet" formulated by my doctor. They said with this Protein diet, I will drop weight fast. The surgeon told me that if I don't lose 12 lbs, he's not going to make me go home and cancel the surgery, but it is in my best interest to lose as much as I can. I am going to watch myself a little closer the rest of this week and next Monday, I am going to work hard core on my Proteins and fluids until it gets to surgery day. I also need to wean myself off of soda (caffeine).

Will be fun to chat with other people that have surgery the same time as I am!

I've been having a hard time cutting back the caffeine too. I love diet coke... always have to have one... I have been able to cut it back during lunch (not good with slim fast) but still having with dinner. The headaches are not fun but I know i will eventually have to give them up... They aren't good for us anyway!

My doctor is asking that I lose 10 pounds prior to surgery... makes the liver shrink some and makes the surgery easier.. but like your doctor i don't think mine would send me back home if I don't. I'm trying my best since i know I will feel better about going into surgery when i know I've prepared my body for it.

Good luck to you and keep us posted on how your doing with the prep!! :sneaky:

  5. Hi again Sha!

Glad you are hanging in there! My pre-op diet is getting easier, on day 8 now. I have found heaven in buying those low fat cottage cheese pack from Knudsen, they have a little fruit on one side and you mix it in, delish! Other than that it is Protein drinks (muscle milk light), and lots of fluids, minimal juices.

Tough, but I am down about 23lbs so it's worth it.

    See ya,

    FBS

    Hi again FBS!

Wow 23 pounds.... that's great! I don't think my diet is as strict as yours but I hope to have lost something by the time i go back in on the 8th.

Congrats to you! Keep up the great work... your on your way.. Yahoo! :sneaky:

  6. Hello November 10th bandsters! :sneaky:

Just wanted to check in and see how everyone is doing on their pre-op diet (if you started yet). I started mine on Monday so I'm on my 4th day... I'm doing 3 slim fast low carb shakes during the day and 1 meal at dinner time. (trying my best to make sure its a semi healthy dinner) I'm usually very hungry when i get home but once i eat a few bites I feel okay. Have been getting headaches and some weakness but this is because i'm used to eating way more food. For the most part I'm doing okay on it.

Let me know how you guys are doing so far!!

  7. Hi every1,

I'm schedule to have the band nov. 10 am excited and scared all at the same time. Working full time and going to school full time and a full time mother my question is how soon will I really be able to return to work my job is sitting. I desire to back to work in a week will this be possible. Way to go to those you have found success with the band.

I'm scheduled for Nov. 10th also! I'm very excited and nervous as well but that is normal with any surgery. Reading the forums and people that have gone through the surgery already has really helped me calm my nerves about it.

The 10th falls on a Wed and I am planning to go back to work on Monday. I do office work so nothing labor intensive. I think you need to determine what is good for you because we are all different. You will need to determine when going back to work feels right for you.

    Good luck to you!

  8. My surgery is also scheduled for November 10. My doctor only has me do the liquid diet for 24 hours prior to surgery, and then an all clear liquid diet the next 7 days. I have really cut back on carbs and caffeine. I am more concerned about losoing coffee and diet coke . This blog business is all new to me, but I would love to connect with those having surgery on the same date/month.

Wow you have a pretty easy pre-op diet! I started mine yesterday... doing okay so far but it's been hard not snacking. Was hungriest yesterday at dinner but I'm sure with time it will get easier.

Good luck to you... November 10th is not far away!

  9. Hi,

I am also schedule for nov 10. That day can not come fast enough. I start me preop diet tommorrow which consist of meal 1 : 1 serving of two of the following: lite yogurt, fruit, ceral, toast, eggs or oatmeal. meal 2 : 1 protien shake

meal 3: 1 serving of lean meat, fish , chicken, turkey, etc. 2 servings of non starchy veg: lettuce, broccoli, green Beans, spinach, carrots etc. meal4 1 Protein shake. This doesn't seem to be to bad. However post op is a different story but I am just excited for my new journey to begin. Best of luck with you journey. :smile2:

Wow your pre-op diet isn't too bad... Lucky you!

I'm starting my diet tomorrow too... good luck! :blushing:

  10. Hi again Sha!

Well consider yourself very lucky, I started mine two days ago and am not allowed to eat ANY food. liquids only consisting of Protein shakes, juices, low cal drinks, Jello, and thank god a little yogurt. broth is an option but I can't seem to sip it, blah!

It has been tough but I guess the good part is that in the first two days I lost ten pounds!

Take care and can't wait for the 10th!!!!

    FatBoy to soon be Slimboy

Wow Congrats on losing 10 pounds so quickly! :smile2: Tomorrow I get to start my lovely slim fast drinks... I feel lucky to be able to eat at least one meal so it's not as bad as you...

Keep up the great work! The 10th will be here before we know it! :blushing:

  11. My surgeon has me doing a pre-op diet 2 weeks before surgery consisting of slim fast low carb shakes 3 times a day and 1 small meal.

He said that it helps with some fat around the liver and stomach and makes the surgery easier. He said even losing 10 pounds pre op makes a big difference for him when it comes to the surgery.

Starting mine Monday. Not looking forward to it but going to try my best! :w00t:

  12. Hello Everyone! :w00t:

I've been reading the forums over the past week and have gotten some great information here.

I have to say the process of getting Lap Band has been super quick. I am out of pocket so I know that makes a difference but I'm still shocked.

I went to my 1st seminar on October 10th, 2010. Had already decided the surgeon I wanted to use. First appointment was today October 21st. My final pre-op appointment is scheduled for November 8th and my surgery is scheduled for November 10th!!

Has anyone else experienced such a fast process? I'm excited and nervous at the same time. Thinking about the surgery is scary!
