  1. My surgery was yesterday and I'm experiencing the bloated gassy feeling. My tummy is making the loudest rumbling noises I have ever heard. Makes just siting uncomfortable. Used the gas strips and gas chewable which neither seemed to do anything. I am happy the shoulder pain went away. That was the worst pain yesterday after surgery. Today feels like I've done way to many sit up's but i expected to be sore. If the gas would just ago away I would feeling pretty good. Still can't lay in bed, It make the incisions start burning so I prop a bunch of pillow on the sofa and kinda sleep a little upright. Helped a lot.

Was everyone able to get down their Protein shakes right away? I tried to drink some today and just couldn't get it down. I've had a little Water and some sugar free Popsicle's. Don't really feel hungry because of all the gas.

  2. Thanks for all the responses.

I'm feeling very sore today but expected it. The shoulder pain is not as bad as yesterday. The heating pad has helped a lot. Still trying to get rid of the sore throat. I feel the gas in my upper chest today... trying to keep walking around so it comes out. Not the best feeling. Had a hard time sleeping last night. Was unable to sleep laying down on the bed so I propped myself up on many pillows on the couch. Got in a few hours of sleep.

Over all feeling okay. I expected most of what I'm feeling so just trying to get through it. Looking forward to healing and getting my weight loss started.

Good luck to all the new November bandsters!

  3. I was banded today 11-10-10.

I arrived at the hospital at 5:30am. I signed some paperwork and then was taken to my bed. The nurse had me change into the lovely open back gown and was told everything had to come off. Also got some nice bright yellow slipper socks from them. The nurse went over all the medical questions.. etc... They started an IV. They gave me some anti acid medicine through IV, a shot in my upper arm to prevent blood clots and urine sample. After that I received visits from the anesthesiologist, my doctor, several nurse's and they just went over what was going to be done and if I had questions. At 8am they came to get me. They had a different bed for me to get into waiting in the hallway. They put some cuff's on my legs (for blood clots) and wheeled me to the OR. Once outside the OR the anesthesiologist was there waiting for me and he immediately game me some medication in my IV to relax and feel calm. It worked because at that point i didn't really feel nervous or anything. I was then brought into the room and was asked to get onto the operating table. my arms were fastened down and they put a oxygen mask on. Within minutes the anesthesiologist said think about some where you would like to be right now... and that's the last I remember.

I was woke in recovery at about 11:45am... felt pain just breathing and they gave me morphine right away. It helped with the stomach pain but didn't help with the horrible sore throat and shoulder pain. After a little while they brought me back to my room and had me slide over to my bed... that wasn't the most pleasant thing to do after surgery. Nurse came and took my stats and told me to start on my 1 oz of Water (medicine measuring cup size). She told me I would not be able to go home until i could drink 4oz of Water in 1 hour, take a walk and use the restroom. I didn't really have a problem with any of that and was able to leave the hospital at 2pm.

Have soreness in the stomach which is relived by liquid vicodin. The sore throat and shoulder pain has not calmed but sticking to sugar free popsicles and heating pad until i feel better. Over all I had a great experience today and feeling pretty good.

  4. I think you should support her if this is something she wants to do. Dieting is hard, most times leaves you starving and then you just end up over eating and gaining more weight then when you started. Lap Band is a very low risk procedure and almost everyone who has it wishes they would've done it sooner. It works by controlling portions and making you feel full. She doesn't have to give up all of her favorite foods. Its about moderation. You should be happy that she wants to get healthy. Especially if you want her to be around a long time.

Like others suggested, go to the seminar with her that way you can get a better understanding of it. Wither she decides to get it or not you should be supportive.

  5. Awesome!!! I get banded Tues. the 16th. Very excited!!!! I heard about the shoulder pain, i was told use a heating pad and use gas X. I'm going to try it not to keen on pain.

The shoulder pain for me has been worse then anything else. The doctor said if you continue to walk around it will eliminate some of the gas and the pain will go away. I have walked several times today and hasn't made a difference for me. Most people say by day 2 its much better so I'm looking forward to tomorrow.

Good luck to you next week!

  6. Congrats Sha! So glad you made it through well and it will get better

I also had shoulder/neck pain day 1 and tried to walk around quite a bit which didn't seem to help until I woke up today.

However, today my soreness is more in my abdomen..feels like someone performed LAP-BAND® surgery on me oh my!

I am taking liquid vicodin which seems to work better than the morphine on drip.

Today got down a few ounces of broth and half bottle of Isopure so feeling better. I am also so glad to be home now, but it was not until 7pm...what a long two days!!

Take care and talk to u soon! You should go into chat sometime, it is good people in there

    Hi FBS! :rolleyes2:

Glad to hear the shoulder and neck pain calms down on day 2. Its horrible! I bet you are glad to be home. I am so glad I didn't have to stay in the hospital. My back was hurting in that hospital bed just after a couple hours..No matter what position I put it in. I made sure to get my Water down and walk so i could go home LOL.

I haven't gone into the chat but I will defiantly have to check it out!

    Keep in touch!

  7. Doc said the installation went great. Pain is no problem, though my throat is on fire. Just got some ChlorAHseptic and have some liquid Tylenol on the way. Ice chips feel good, but offer little in the way of pain relief. I guess I'll be moving on to the "other side" soon.

Good luck to all. God bless and God speed!

I have a killer sore throat also! Have you tried the sugar free popsicle's? I have been eating those since I got home today and they seem to help some. It kinda soothes the throat. Give it a try if you haven't already.

  8. I find that Im not really nervous yet, but Im sure that will come tonight :crying: Today Im just trying to go through a normal everyday routine. I took my daughter to daycare this morning, and am now trying to clean the house so that I dont have to look at it and wish it were clean later :)

I did my last test yesterday and found that I had officially lost the 15lbs that my surgeon required me to lose. Now lets just hope that the liquid diet helped my liver out.

I guess Im more worried about them getting in there and finding some reason not to band me. I wont rest assured until I wake up and they say "you're good to go April, welcome to the start of your new life". Anyone else nervous about that?

Yeah I've been worried about that too... unlike most of you here, I did not have to do a liquid only diet and was able to eat one meal a day. The more I read about other people and their strick pre-op diet to shrink the liver, more and more i think about them not being able to band me. My doctor seemed really confident yesterday so I'm just keeping my fingers crossed. It would totally suck to wake up and be told they were unable to put a band.

You've lost a good amount of weight so I'm sure all will be fine for you. Good luck!

  9. Hello again everyone!

Tomorrow is the big day... how is everyone feeling?

I'm getting really nervous...excited about getting the band but nervous about the surgery. I know the nerves are normal I'm just having a lot of different feelings right now. At least mine if first thing in the morning and I don't have to sit through half a day like some of you.

Good luck to everyone and let us know how you are doing after the surgery!

  10.  :)

Hi Nov. 10th ers! I was hoping to band with you on Wednesday but just received a call saying I am bumped up to Tuesday the 9th at 10:45 am! Needless to say I was quite surprised and now more nervous than ever.

I wish everyone good luck and speedy recovery!

Not to brag LOL but today I have officially lost 34 presurgury lbs in about 3.5 weeks woo hoo!

    Fatboy_Slim

Well that's great news... get the nerves over and done with. I had my final appointment today so I am offically ready to go! My surgery is now scheduled for 7:30am so I check into the hospital at 5:30am. I will be leaving my house at 4am due to traffic.. Yikes that's early!

Good luck tomorrow... let us know how you are doing and what you experinced. Might help us with the nerves tomorrow LOL

Take care and wishing you a speedy recovery as well!

  11. I am getting closer to chosing LAP-BAND® surgery to "save my life". I want to be healthy and active again and I want to do it before I become morbidly obese instead of after. My BMI is 33 so my insurance will not cover it. Therefore I am looking into the pay-my-own-way approach. Any advice you can give me on how it was or wasn't "worth it" to you would be wonderful! Thanks!

My surgery is scheduled for November 10th and I am paying out of pocket. Even though it is a lot of money, I am determined to get healthy and therefore it is "worth" the money. I think about all the things I can do once I lose some weight and how much happier I will be and that's all my focus is on.

    Good luck to you!

  12. I'm coming to end of day 2 of my 7 day pre-op liquid diet. (My surgeon refereed to it as a "starvation diet". (20 grams of Protein per day, no solids whatsoever.) On the plus side, the scale says I've "lost" 10 pounds. The downside is that I almost stole my son's McD's fries!

    So...how's your day been?

    LOL that's funny!!

I am actually one of the lucky ones that still gets to eat one meal a day however I've been making an effort to eat a healthy meal. Today one of my co-workers decides to get french fries and eat them in my office and you know how french fries smell... OMG I was about to kill him!

Over all feeling good though. Looking forward to my band and starting a new me.

  13. I am paying out of pocket so mine was pretty easy. I had a phone consult today and she just asked me some questions.

    Things like:

    Are you married

Do you have support from your husband

    Who are your support team

Have you gotten any negative comments when telling people you are getting Lap band

What was the last stressful event that happened to you

How did you handle the stress

Have you been diagnosed with any eating disorder

How long have you been over weight

What is the reason for wanting Lap band

Do you have depression or been diagnosed with depression

What do you do at work

How long have you worked there

    ETC.....

Nothing to be scared or worried about. Hope this helps a little.

  14. my surgery date is the 15th. im really excited but super nervous at the same... good luck to everyone!

I think being nervous is normal for everyone. It's surgery and any kind of surgery is scary!

I've been reading the forum here called "Surgery day stories" and that has seemed to help me with the mental part. Doesn't seem quite so bad when other people talk about their experiences on surgery day. Check it out!

Take care and good luck to you...

  15. I check in at 7 with a placement at 9 (Pacific Time). Good news is that I get to go home that day. I wont really be going home, but staying with friends because my husband is out to sea, but you get the idea

I'm hoping to go home the same day too. They make sure you can get down so many ounces of Water and are able to get up and walk on your own. Based on the forums seems like most people go home within a couple hours!
