    Post Op bloody sinus drainage

I was banded Nov. 10th and yesterday I experienced the same thing. I think it's from the surgery. I think when they use the face mask and breathing tube it dries everything up. I've also had some runny nose since then and I don't have any cold symptoms either.
  2. Hi FBS! I'm doing pretty good. The gas is still driving me crazy and the shoulder pain has returned today but over all feeling pretty good. Slept much better last night however, I'm still propped on pillows on the couch. Looking forward to getting back to sleeping in the bed. Will try tonight. I'm looking forward to mushy stage... would love some mashed potato's right now LOL. I'm having a hard time getting down the Protein shakes... With all the gas the last thing i want to do is fill myself with more liquids! Glad to hear you are doing so well. I go back to work on Monday and I think I will be fine. Have a great weekend and talk to ya again soon!

    How soon to lay down??

I had surgery on Nov 10th and as of last night I was still unable to lay down in the bed. It is extremely uncomfortable and puts tension on the incisions and port. I've been propped upright on pillows on the couch the last couple nights. My back hurts also but could be from the surgery itself or sleeping on the couch. Like most people said, I think it just depends on you being comfortable. If you are not able to lay down comfortably then I would not push it. Take it a day at a time. The sleeping does get easier... the first night I woke every hour but last night I slept through the night. Good luck to you!
  4. Thanks everyone for the great suggestions. I know its a learning process so I will just try my best to Force myself to drink them. I know that it will eventually get easier... by the way... does the gas go away or do people find they are more gassy since being banded? It's so uncomfortable... I can't imagine always having gas like this!

    Banded today! 11-10-10

Hi Ape... Things are going a little better today. The sore throat is still horrible. Makes you wonder how roughly they push the tube down your throat! I too have the bond instead of stitches and have had them start to itch too. Like you said, I think it's a good sign. My doctor has me wearing a binder around my stomach so the itching hasn't been too bad. Funny you mention about the Water... I posted a new thread (accidentally under the pre-op) just a bit ago because Ive been having a hard time getting the shakes down and have had not much water. Not sure if it's normal. Just not feeling like stuffing more down while I'm so bloated and gassy. Hopefully people respond with some ideas or advise.
  6. Was banded today and surgery went great. Sore, shoulder pain and sore throat but over all feeling pretty good. Just wanted to post since I finally get to be on the Post-op forums.... Yay!!!! Looking forward to a new me! :rolleyes2:
  7. Ooops, I just realized I posted this under the Pre-op forum instead of the Post-op forum. Sorry about that....

    Getting Serious

Thank you!! Surgery went great... Having the gas pains and abdomen soreness but nothing that I wasn't expecting. Over all feeling pretty good. Very excited for a new me. Good luck to you too!
  9. My surgery was yesterday and if you are going to be an out patient then you don't really need to pack anything. I brought my cell phone with me and wore lose comfortable clothes. As for after surgery you will need... your Protein shakes, Water, sugar free Popsicle's, sugar free Jello, chicken broth (i buy the chicken noodle Soup and strain the noodles out.. more tasty broth that way). liquid Tylenol, gas-x strips and heating pad has been a life saver for shoulder and back pain. Being nervous before surgery is normal... I was the day before but once I got to the hospital I was not as nervous. They took good care of me and made sure I was comfortable at all times. It all goes so fast. Good luck to everyone!
  10. My surgery was yesterday and I'm experiencing the bloated gassy feeling. My tummy is making the loudest rumbling noises I have ever heard. Makes just siting uncomfortable. Used the gas strips and gas chewable which neither seemed to do anything. I am happy the shoulder pain went away. That was the worst pain yesterday after surgery. Today feels like I've done way to many sit up's but i expected to be sore. If the gas would just ago away I would feeling pretty good. Still can't lay in bed, It make the incisions start burning so I prop a bunch of pillow on the sofa and kinda sleep a little upright. Helped a lot. Was everyone able to get down their Protein shakes right away? I tried to drink some today and just couldn't get it down. I've had a little Water and some sugar free Popsicle's. Don't really feel hungry because of all the gas.

    Banded today! 11-10-10

Thanks for all the responses. I'm feeling very sore today but expected it. The shoulder pain is not as bad as yesterday. The heating pad has helped a lot. Still trying to get rid of the sore throat. I feel the gas in my upper chest today... trying to keep walking around so it comes out. Not the best feeling. Had a hard time sleeping last night. Was unable to sleep laying down on the bed so I propped myself up on many pillows on the couch. Got in a few hours of sleep. Over all feeling okay. I expected most of what I'm feeling so just trying to get through it. Looking forward to healing and getting my weight loss started. Good luck to all the new November bandsters!
  12. I was banded today 11-10-10. I arrived at the hospital at 5:30am. I signed some paperwork and then was taken to my bed. The nurse had me change into the lovely open back gown and was told everything had to come off. Also got some nice bright yellow slipper socks from them. The nurse went over all the medical questions.. etc... They started an IV. They gave me some anti acid medicine through IV, a shot in my upper arm to prevent blood clots and urine sample. After that I received visits from the anesthesiologist, my doctor, several nurse's and they just went over what was going to be done and if I had questions. At 8am they came to get me. They had a different bed for me to get into waiting in the hallway. They put some cuff's on my legs (for blood clots) and wheeled me to the OR. Once outside the OR the anesthesiologist was there waiting for me and he immediately game me some medication in my IV to relax and feel calm. It worked because at that point i didn't really feel nervous or anything. I was then brought into the room and was asked to get onto the operating table. my arms were fastened down and they put a oxygen mask on. Within minutes the anesthesiologist said think about some where you would like to be right now... and that's the last I remember. I was woke in recovery at about 11:45am... felt pain just breathing and they gave me morphine right away. It helped with the stomach pain but didn't help with the horrible sore throat and shoulder pain. After a little while they brought me back to my room and had me slide over to my bed... that wasn't the most pleasant thing to do after surgery. Nurse came and took my stats and told me to start on my 1 oz of Water (medicine measuring cup size). She told me I would not be able to go home until i could drink 4oz of water in 1 hour, take a walk and use the restroom. I didn't really have a problem with any of that and was able to leave the hospital at 2pm. Have soreness in the stomach which is relived by liquid vicodin. The sore throat and shoulder pain has not calmed but sticking to sugar free popsicles and heating pad until i feel better. Over all I had a great experience today and feeling pretty good.

    Don't know how to feel.

I think you should support her if this is something she wants to do. Dieting is hard, most times leaves you starving and then you just end up over eating and gaining more weight then when you started. Lap Band is a very low risk procedure and almost everyone who has it wishes they would've done it sooner. It works by controlling portions and making you feel full. She doesn't have to give up all of her favorite foods. Its about moderation. You should be happy that she wants to get healthy. Especially if you want her to be around a long time. Like others suggested, go to the seminar with her that way you can get a better understanding of it. Wither she decides to get it or not you should be supportive.

    Banded today! 11-10-10

The shoulder pain for me has been worse then anything else. The doctor said if you continue to walk around it will eliminate some of the gas and the pain will go away. I have walked several times today and hasn't made a difference for me. Most people say by day 2 its much better so I'm looking forward to tomorrow. Good luck to you next week!
  15. Hi FBS! :rolleyes2: Glad to hear the shoulder and neck pain calms down on day 2. Its horrible! I bet you are glad to be home. I am so glad I didn't have to stay in the hospital. My back was hurting in that hospital bed just after a couple hours..No matter what position I put it in. I made sure to get my Water down and walk so i could go home LOL. I haven't gone into the chat but I will defiantly have to check it out! Keep in touch!
  16. I have a killer sore throat also! Have you tried the sugar free popsicle's? I have been eating those since I got home today and they seem to help some. It kinda soothes the throat. Give it a try if you haven't already.
  17. My surgery went really well. I'm really sore, like the day after you've done way to many sit ups. I have to say though, the shoulder pain and sore throat pain was far more worse then the incisions. I am taking liquid vicodin for pain but unfortunately it does nothing for the shoulder pain. Over all I feel pretty good though. Glad to hear everyone's surgery went great. :rolleyes2:
  18. Hi FBS! Glad to hear your surgery went great and you are doing well!!
  19. Hi Ape087! I live in Orange County. Getting banded tomorrow at Placentia Linda hospital. Keep in touch and let me know how your doing! Good luck to you.
  20. Yeah I've been worried about that too... unlike most of you here, I did not have to do a liquid only diet and was able to eat one meal a day. The more I read about other people and their strick pre-op diet to shrink the liver, more and more i think about them not being able to band me. My doctor seemed really confident yesterday so I'm just keeping my fingers crossed. It would totally suck to wake up and be told they were unable to put a band. You've lost a good amount of weight so I'm sure all will be fine for you. Good luck!
  21. Hello again everyone! Tomorrow is the big day... how is everyone feeling? I'm getting really nervous...excited about getting the band but nervous about the surgery. I know the nerves are normal I'm just having a lot of different feelings right now. At least mine if first thing in the morning and I don't have to sit through half a day like some of you. Good luck to everyone and let us know how you are doing after the surgery!
  22. Well that's great news... get the nerves over and done with. I had my final appointment today so I am offically ready to go! My surgery is now scheduled for 7:30am so I check into the hospital at 5:30am. I will be leaving my house at 4am due to traffic.. Yikes that's early! Good luck tomorrow... let us know how you are doing and what you experinced. Might help us with the nerves tomorrow LOL Take care and wishing you a speedy recovery as well!

    Getting Serious

My surgery is scheduled for November 10th and I am paying out of pocket. Even though it is a lot of money, I am determined to get healthy and therefore it is "worth" the money. I think about all the things I can do once I lose some weight and how much happier I will be and that's all my focus is on. Good luck to you!
  24. Wow that's a great loss... Congrats!
  25. Hi FBS! Yes I am so ready... getting nervous but really excited. I check into the hospital at 6am and the surgery is scheduled for 8am. I'm looking forward to the fat suit coming off too! LOL
