Got this done at Jade Dragon Tattoo in Chicago, IL in 2006. It says "that which does not kill me..." and is in between 2 of the scars from having a double nephrectomy (kidneys removed) when I was younger.

i've been thinking about tatooing over my tummy tuck scar...i might steal ur idea...:-)

It's sort of a long story - the condensed version is that I was born with 3 kidneys - one of them never worked to begin with, the other had glomerulonephritis that went undiagnosed for months which is a severe infection that caused scaring, so both of those were removed. My third one also had glomerulonephritis but they caught it soon enough so only half of it has scar tissue but only half of it functions...so yea I only have half of a functioning kidney lol hence that which does not kill me...

You know really the scar just looks like your bending over a little. I don't wanna sound rude but because you only have half a functioning kidney does that mean you'll eventually need a transplant? Awesome tattoo by the way

Yea we always joke that it's just a fat roll lol Not rude at all, actually a good question. I won't need a transplant unless this half one decides to stop working or gets damaged some how, such as in a car accident. Otherwise it's compensated for losing the other kidneys at such a young age. It's a trooper!
