Decisions, decisions

I decided to keep the appointment with my doctor today even though Highmark said I don't really even need to discuss this with him. I have known him for the past 16 years so I am very comfortable discussing stuff with him...but boy was I nervous today!!!

I told him I have worked hard over the years and just can't seem to get anywhere and I am frustrated. So I said I wanted to be banded. He said that was fine but as we talked (and we are the same age), he said he'd prefer I go the lap RNY route and prefers that to the band. I know he's up on his research so I told him that since he thought that was best for my situation...that's the way we'll go. He said definitely not open though

He said he didn't think I was that "big" (I guess I don't come off as an obese person...go figure) but he can see where it would really improve my life and help me achieve my goals. And he is extremely supportive. :glare:

So that's that. I will schedule the surgeon in January and provided the surgeon agrees...I will be doing lap rny and not the band.

Sounds like you're progressing well on your path! I'm so happy you've got the support of your Dr. and a plan. I'm really glad you're sticking around! There's even a forum section for RNY & other procedures here...and so many issues are the same anyway, right? Have a great holiday!

Thanks BG I needed that tonight. I was posting on the thinnertimes.com forum and was really scolded and criticised for going lap rny at my weight and bmi. I wonder if they think that of the band there too? I was so upset and started second guessing myself. I think I am done there. I mean this is my PCP...someone I have known for 16 years through everything (and my husband is getting a heart transplant so I mean EVERYTHING)...we are the same age...our kids are the same age...and I think he'd tell me his true opinion. Sigh. I have homework and I can't even focus on it. Oh well....must.buckle.down  Have an awesome T-day!

On our way out...waiting for DD (sigh-slow), but I had to stop in...You've made the best decision for you and you've got your Dr. behind you and I'm sure your surgeon will agree, so don't listen to negative comments. I don't get why anyone would come to one of these websites designed for getting/giving support and not be supportive? Maybe they're jealous that you don't have as much to lose as they did? Hey, maybe I'll be jealous (hee, hee) you'll be losing 5x as fast as me, but that won't stop me from being supportive of you! We're in this together...here's to Spring '09!!! (I think there's even a moderator on here with the sleeve.)
