What to tell boss

I am going to miss a few days of work because of the surgery. I don't want to lie to my boss but I know she will tell everyone and I don't need or want that type of pressure. What can I tell her that will be factual without telling her that I had lap band. I don't want to lie but I want to keep this private from work. Help.

I told my boss I was having 'female surgery'. Gall bladder would work, too. Or, abdominal surgery

I don't see that as lying in either case; it is protecting my privacy. Especially if you do not feel your boss would keep it private.

I just said, Abdominal Surgery - none of their business, and they ARE NOT ALLOWED to make you say more. Just saying abdominal surgery is not a lie at all, and people tend to get more imaginative - they start assuming it's something female, and once they think that they don't want to know the details. :-)

I acutally didn't tell my manager anything. All I said was I would be out for x days and I've completed my FMLA request. I was concerned that the fmla would be denied because it wasn't within the 30 day rule, but it wasn't.

So yea, I didn't say anything. No one even knows I'm out having surgery.

Thanks for the advice. I think I will use abdominal surgery as the reason. I think that covers it nicely.
