Week 4/ One Month Since Surgery!

Wow, so where do I start? Let's go backwards

Yesterday I was in the ER. I hadn't had an appetite for 4 days. I'm really dehydrated and I've barely been able to look at any food, let alone stomach it. Around 5pm I started having really bad pains across my stomach and I got really dizzy and nauseated and if I had anything in my stomach it would have been all over the floor.. My heart was racing, I was really hot and that was scary because I'm always cold, and I was hyperventilating. I didn't want to go to the ER because they are HORRIBLE but he made me because I had symptoms of a leak.

Long story short, I left AMA, I mean just walked right out with an IV still in my arm. I waited 3 HOURs for pain/nausea meds and never got them. I was so livid I just walke out. So, I don't know if I have a leak. During those 3 HOURs, my symptoms subsided and I felt a little better and I thought if there was something really wrong, they would have seen it on the xray and I would have been up in the OR by now.

I know I'll probably get some flack for walking out, but I work in medical and let me tell you Bethesda Naval medical center is by far THE WORST facade of a hospital I've ever seen. 3 hours is unacceptable to wait in pain.

I don't know what is going on with me. The first 26 days was great. I was eating well getting in my protein and water and once my period hit, everything went downhill. Is this normal? Does this ever go away and will I ever get my appetite back? I hate being nauseous at the smell of food.

I'm sorry you are feeling ill Natural. You mentioned you got your period and I noticed on another post you said you weren't able to get your vitamins in like you should. I wonder if you might be really low on Iron? That on top of being hydrated would really suck.

Have you talked to your doctor again since you left the ER?

Sorry you were feeling bad. I understand the AMA thing. I felt bad Friday, called my doctor and he sent me for outpatient IV fluids instead of to the ER and I was HAPPY!!! ERs have too much of a wait time. I hope that you are feeling better. It's scary to think you may have a leak and I pray that you don't!!! Please keep me posted!!

Hey ladies, thanks for responding.

Liberated I wonder the same thing. I was doing well before my period hit and now that it is over I am feeling better and I've been able to eat again. I had lab work done a few weeks ago but I haven't heard the results yet. I am going to set up an appointment next week with my doctor and let her know what happened.

Missmarbe, I am really considering changing my insurance so that I can go outside of the base for healthcare. I would rather pay than get it for free at that place.

Thank you ladies for your concern! I will keep you both posted :)

I hope you feel better. The er at our hospital is very busy with 75k visits per year but they track patient wait times and times for care to be delivered. I am sorry you had that experience, any other hospitals nearby? Anyways get well soon! One thing to keep in mind is that if you get fluids without vitamins people have been reported to get werneikes encephalopathy(if you are not taking your vitamins).

I am 8 days out and had to go to the ER on day 5 out! I waited for 7 hrs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was worried about blood clots because I was told not to lay around a lot and I did, I actually laid around more than i moved, laying around was the only time I felt no pain. I must admitt there has been a few cry spells and a little bit of regret. I want to to just drink water reguarly soooooooooooooo bad! this sipping mess is frustrated but I am so affraid of bumping. I just can't wait until I fully recover. I am glad to hear you are doing better.

Thickhawk, I'm sorry to hear you're having so much pain and yes, I really miss being able to gulp my liquids :( but know, it really does get better. Before my ER incident I was doing great. Hang in there and know that the end results are definitely worth it. I've lost about 40 lbs and I'm still going. I never would have been able to do that on my own.
