Still New..

Well yall, this is my first post and I just wanted to let everyone know that I'm so excited for this surgery and it can't happen fast enough. I went to my first seminar on 12/07/11 and decided that the gastric sleeve was for me. I have my initial consultation with the surgeon on 12/21/11 and I have no idea how long it will take after that. I'm hoping to have the surgery done by late January-February, but I'm not sure if this is even possible. Let me know how long yall's process took (insurance, appointments, surgery, etc.) and what I should expect. Thanks!

Blessings,

Chelsea <3

My entire process took about 8 months. I have Aetna insurance and they require 6 months of medically supervised weight loss. During this time I started having my preop testings done (blood, ekg, chest xray, upper GI, gallbladder ultrasound) as well as my psych consult. Once this was all complete they sent everything in to insurance for me and it took about 1 week to be approved. My surgeon was booked a month or two out so my sleeve date is 12-13 and I started with my initial visit in April.

It all depends on insurance requirement pretty much.

Good luck and keep us posted!

My total process took from July to December... I'm getting sleeved tomorrow!! I had a 3 month supervised diet for blue cross blue sheild insurance. Got the rest of the stuff done in the mean time. Then it took my insurance about 2 weeks to approve it after all of my stuff was turned in. Good Luck!!

Welcome and congrats on taking the first step towards surgery. I just finished my third appointment and next month should be my last. My insurance requires a 4 month doc visit with the surgeon. So far so good, I'm getting excited! Usually your visit with the surgeon they sit down with you and give you the 411 and the insurance people talk to you too to let you know if you have any insurance requirements.

insurance companies are funny. Mine was self pay so I was scheduled quickly, but I know many people who were approved in a month and some that took 3 to 4... Good luck
