VERY DISAPPOINTED

It's been two years since my lapband and I weigh more than when I started. After my surgery, I joined a support group and wondered why I was the only lapband person in attendance. After 6 months, I lost 30 lbs and then hit a plateau for about 5 months and then I moved. I slowly started gaining weight back. Afterward, I met several other folks who had the same issue. Now, I tell people the truth about the lapband. Please do your research before paying for this costly procedure! After hearing the horror stories from bypass folks, I wouldn't recommend that either. The only true and healthy way to loss weight is healthy eating in moderation and exercise. No matter how you try and get around it, that's the fact!

Sorry lap band did not work for you but you made a very valid statement, with or without WLS the key to losing weight is healthy eating, in moderation and exercise. This same philosophy goes for us that had WLS and it has worked. My key to losing has not been my band it is my added insurance or safety net, what I have learned in two years in portion control and if you exercise and burn more than you take in you lose weight. Yes my band has helped me but without out totally changing my views on nutrition I would have never been successful. I wish you luck in your weight lose journey applying the principles you have identified.

Great post Love. I too, am using my band as a safety net. Since the weight I have lost so far has been all diet, no restriction, eating healthy and portion control makes the difference.

Glad I have "insurance" on keeping it off this time.

Love, you are such a great inspiration to all of us. You worked really hard for 2yrs to reach your goal, you never gave up. Thanks for sharing great advice!

I'm sorry you didn't find success with the band, but you must realize the band isn't a magic fix for fat. It's just a tool. Unless you're willing to change your eating habits to healthy ones and stick to band sized portions you will fail. It all boils down to simple math- if you burn more calories than you consume you will lose weight.

I've lost 190 pounds in less than 14 months and couldn't be happier with my band or my results. I've had to do a lot of hard work to get here but as the old saying goes- nothing worthwhile ever comes easy. It's all been more than worth it.

If you did your research you would have learned that the band is just a tool to help you lose weight. It's not magic, it wont make you choose the right foods and if you eat slow enough you can still eat way more than you really need. It helps me to be satisfied on smaller portions of food so I consume less calories than I put out, hopefully anyways with exercise!

I think most are successful. The band does not fail people unless there is a medical reason such as a slip or erosion. People fail the band. When you dont follow instructions and doctors plans then you cant be successful.

If I could have stuck to an eating plan and exercised I would not have needed the band. By the time I recieved the band, I have exhausted all my weight loss means. The band was false hope. I'm so glad to hear the band has worked for so many. Yet, I'd bet my life, more people failed than succeeded. I'd like to see some follow up studies. I congratulate all you who have lost the weight! I'm happy you found something that worked for you.

My husband was banded in 2009. He lost 50 pounds then he stopped following the diet. He maintained his weight loss and just received his first fill yesterday. The band still helped him with smaller portions even though he had never had a fill. We are now banded together and working on getting fit together.
