Stuck??

ok, so surgery was oct5 and went for postop everything looked good and dr put me on reg food...sat night,i tried a tiny piece of marinated steak, stupid,i know!! well it got stuck and i vomited slime. the steak didnt come up tho...now its 10pm on sunday night and everything ive tried to eat or drink since has come right back up!

i called my dr who said it sounds like the meat got stuck and to call the surgeon in the morn for another esophagram.

my question is...is there anything i can do myself to get the meat unstuck before i see the surgeon???

every five minutes or so,it fells like my throat is closing, then it subsides for a bit, dont wanna go to the er,because i dont think they are educated enough in the lapband.

For some people, small sips of hot tea or coffee help (the heat seems to help). Definitely don't try to eat anything. Also, walking may help to get moving around and hope it decides to move.

So sorry you have to go through the night this way.

So you talked to your regular doctor, not your surgeon correct? If it is too uncomfortable, I would go to the ER. Your surgeon may have added fluid when you were banded and by removing that bit of fluid it could help it pass or they may have to go down and get what is stuck.

Unfortunately, we learn some of this the hard way and steak wouldn't be a way to start out on solid foods.

Hang in there! This will pass.

yes it was my reg doctor i spoke to,who has the lapband.ive been calling my surgeon since 7am,not open yet.

i feel like it is stuck right in my throat.

i live in staten island and my surgeon is in manhatten,i was hoping to get it unstuck on my own,now i have to travel to him,pay a copay, pay for parking, and have another esophagram!!

i swear,i am never eating any kind of meat again after this!!!!!

I have had a few things stuck and its very painful for about 10 hrs. I would suggest take a jog and / or drink something hot.. no solids or mushy tho! moving around helped me.. and once I had the problem i didnt do it again! lol

Get papaya enzyme pills. They work pretty good. Chew 3 or 4. It will either go down or make whatever is stuck come up. Then just stick to liquids for a few hours.

How are you doing? What did they end up doing for you? I hope you have found some relief finally.

LAP-BAND Patients

hey everyone...so,i took off from work today, traveled to nyu, paid for parking and paid my copay. spent the whole day there,dr stuck a needle in my still healing port site,to see if there was any liquid in there(there wasnt)...then,he added some liquid and then took it out,to see if something was stuck,if that would loosen it)...no relief...had an esophagram and thank God...no slip and no obstruction!! just really irritated and enflamed from the vomiting.

on clear liquids for the next 2 days, then mushies.

i came home, had some water, and slept for 3 hrs,im having chicken broth now...my throat still feels like its closing, but not nearly as bad as it was yesterday!

also,my whole stomach is sooo sore, like it was after surgery!!

i swear,i am never touching red meat again!!!!

this whole episode scared the crap outta me!!! lesson learned!
