Hard To "go"...anyone?

I was banded 2 days ago and since this I haven't had a BM. I feel very bloated like my tummy is all puffed up and I think it's contributing to my discomfort in my post op healing. I got a little worried when I searched for "constipation" and read some horror stories about some people still having these issues years down the road. I DESPERATELY hope this is just a phase as I'm transitioning back to real food. I've never had any issues and I've always been regular before this. I just don't like this feeling...any advice?? Is it too early to try Milk of Magnesia???

I had major problems with constipation for about two months after surgery. It was on and off. Get some fiber meds that you can add to your drink, also, there is a tea called "smooth move" that helps. Drink A LOT of water and hang in there. This is a stage that you will get through. Once you start eating and can include more fiber in your diet, your system will straighten out. Remember that this is a far healther option than by-pass because your system is intact. It just needs to adjust.

Good luck!

Hey Journeytohealth, I was just banded about 10 days ago. Like you I was feeling bloated and discomfort the first couple days. Probably the 3rd or 4th day I "went." Just give it another day or two. If you still haven't gone, I'd try the Milk of Magnesia. But to answer your question about further problems, no I have not had any. I wouldn't worry about it right now! :-) Hope this helps! Good luck!

Definately get some metamucil love, i know the feeling im in day 4 and had the worst hour of my week on the loo this morning. You can get fibresure which has no flavour so you can add it to anything which is fantastic.

I had the same problem, and it was caused by my pain meds, but once I was off them, nature took over.

Milk of Magnesia works great and for the bloating and pressure feeling I use the gas-x strips. They are a life saver.

Benefiber is what my nutritionist and nurse told me to get.
