I feel like a jerk

I was banded one month ago today. I have had no weight loss at all. I believe I am doing all the right things with food and exercise, however today......I cant say that is true. I have been limiting carbs and eating protein all the time. I have been so hungry for something sweet and carb loaded. So I had whatever I wanted.... and 1/2 cup of diet pepsi. I feel like such a jerk. I spent A LOT of money on this proceedure and now I feel like maybe it was a waste. Im very hungry and without a fill I can eat whatever I want. I dont really over-do it. I stop when Im full. Except for today. Has anyone else felt this way? Any suggestions or comments?

Hi Kelly - Please don't be so hard on yourself. You made the important decision to deal with your weight and you got through surgery, now get the band working for you! You probably need to get a fill, so you have some restriction and don't have the hunger and the cravings. I am not yet banded, but hate to see you beating up on yourself. Go back to your doctor/surgeon and talk with them. My surgeon explained that the first month is for healing and not to expect much weight loss between surgery day and first fill (usually one month after surgery) but that I need to come in and get adjusted either in my band OR in my head anytime after that IF I am not losing weight. Don't be afraid to go talk to them(whoever did your banding) and ask for help to get on the right track once more. It's a steep learning curve, I've been told. I wish you ALL the best. Cindy

Give yourself credit for going through with the surgery. Find some ways to be away from food and get some exercise -- walking, weights, spending time at Borders. Don't treat the band and a fill like it is the panacea -- find some other tools and support. No matter how great your restriction you still need to learn how, what and when to eat, and how to live healthier. A support group and a nutritionist might help? You have taken the hardest step! Be good to yourself and God bless.......

Thank you. The thing is...Im a super healthy person. I wear a size 16 now with no weight loss. My doc said he could not have done the surgery if I had not been private pay. I work out very hard ( usually 1.5) hrs a day and I have always eaten fairly well. Of course, in the past, I ate too much of it. I have a degree in nutrition so I know all about that sort of thing. I dont understand why Im not losing weight. I have not completely cut out carbs. My doc said not to do that because my body will miss too many nutrients if I do that. But maybe that is what I need to do. When/if I do that Im afraid I will become so deprived that I will have days like I did yesterday that all I wanna do is eat carbs. This process, for me so far, seems very strange. Even my doc has no advise as to why I cant seem to lose weight. Im young, healthy, educated, strong and willing to do whatever I need to do. Anyone else relate?

Hello Kelly do not be so hard on yourself. Your band sounds like it's not thigh enough. Give it some time to work. We all are so different, I only needed a 1/2 cc each time I went in for a fill, someone els needs 2cc ect... So you will fine what works for you. Also stay away from the carbonated drinks, walk more, eat more healthy snakes for those times when you are feeling hungry 100cal snacks are so good also, drink protein shakes. And before you know it that scale will make you smell again. Good luck and keep us posted.
