Closet Shopping

Yes, I went closet shopping today. I've lost 30 pounds and it was time to make a change. Some of my clothes were just too big - wow, what a great thing to say! And you know, I've read posts on here by people who have said they completely got rid of their "big" clothes. I struggled and debated about this all morning . . . I just can't do it. I put most things in a box to give away (I have lots of friends and relatives who will be glad to get them, I know). But the dress clothes for work that cost sooo much . .. I put away. It makes me a little sad, but I just can't trust it yet . .. I am losing weight, sure, but the weight has ALWAYS come back - ALWAYS. Will the band be enough to really allow me to keep off the weight this time? That IS my goal and that is the reason I got the band - I've posted here before that I truly don't care if the weight comes off slowly, as long as it stays off. I don't know, what do you think? Does this make me a pessimist to think that the weight might return? I hope and pray that when I reach my goal weight I stay there . . . I'm just not sure. For today, it was encouraging and fun to pull a smaller size out of the closet (I have multiple sizes in multiple closets like most of us). I'll keep working and making healthy choices and see where this road takes me . . I'm lovin' it so far! Here we go . .

Marw...how long ago were you banded...i was banded on the 11th and am down including presurgery diet about 14 lbs. Not too bad as it hasn't been that long but want to fast forward to the end result!! lol I'm like you...I really want to trust it and they keep saying that it's forever but I don't know...lol Anyways, take care of yourself and keep up the good work!! Right behind ya!

Sooo funny, I did the same thing today! I packed up all of the clothes that I wanted to donate, those that I wanted to give to friends and I kept the pricier ones "just in case". Because I don't want to have to go buy a new wardrobe if this doesn't work...and I'm right at the weight that my diets stop working and I start sabbotaging myself. I think it makes sense! Today I am wearing a shirt I haven't worn in 4 years and my shorts are almost falling off of me, I can actually take them off without unbuttoning and unzipping...but they are still my favs!

Thanks sandif and Lap2Fab . . . at least I know I'm not alone! I have no intentions of turning back - it's full steam ahead!

Yeah!!! I hope you had fun today, you totally deserve it. You are doing absolutely fantastic.

I don't blame you for packing up stuff. I was looking at my closet today and thinking "what have I done? what will happen if it all comes back?" We are gonna make sure that doesn't happen, right?

I agree..I was torn but then I said..you will have no choice but to NOT gain it back! I had (have) clothes from size 7 to 3X in my closet & boxes..so yes I have been hanging on to the dream of losing weight for a long time!! When I am going closet shopping and doing my fashion shows now my husband will say "are you having a flash back to the 80s or what..or did that one come from the 90s?" I just laugh and tell him that these styles are coming back. With me getting rid of everything that is too big (16 & higher and some 14s) I still have a full closet and then some. I am wearing somewhere between a 9-14 depending on the cut. I am just happy not to have to go spend money on clothes!! I so keep going forward and don't look back! Take care!

I do the same thing!! I've toted up some and put them in the basement! I'm too cheap to buy new things right now even tho my scrubs are way to baggy (and yes! that's sooo awsome of a problem!!). If your work clothes are too expensive to replace, see if you can find someone to take them in for you. Keep the style, not the size :)!! p.s. to Finallyncontrol>>I may be in a world of my own but THE 80's CLOTHES ARE COMING BACK!! (I'm determined to wear my spandex, hot pink, animal print skirt and sweater set again!! And besides...I ROCK big hair!!)

closet shopping is great. i have clothes boxed up and saved from as far back as 1986, size 6!!! i am also very "thrifty", so some of my nicer "fat clothes" i will keep boxed up (for now)..other things I've thrown out as soon as they start to look baggy/sloppy.

i think this is natural behavior for those of use who have lost and regained so many times before. we don't trust ourselves, yet!!!

size 18 - gone.... size 16 - gone.... size 14 - gone... size 12 - gone...I started at a size 18 and I didn't have to buy any clothes until now the size 10, I bought only the bare minimum because I don't plan on being in a size 10 for very long. I have already bought a few pair of size 8 shorts. Goodwill loved me....LOL

You are doing great. I felt the same way about clothes. But I made up my mind that they are going. Gave them all away. One thing that is very helpful is to go to co-signment shops for your clothes right now. There is one on State st that is real nice. Right on the corner of State and Center, think it is called "Out of the Closet" They are life savers as you go down in sizes.

Do you have Dr Ringley as your surgeon?

You remind me so much of myself, everything I have tried before to lose weight failed. I will have my band by the first of October, wish it was tomorrow. I will be having my endoscopy on Thursday, and if that comes out ok, I'll have my surgery by the first. So excited, love hearing from these posts, its certainly encouraging
