Self paid? worth it ?

I having my surgery on jun 26Th. I am self paid because my insurance does not cover it. I have to pay 16.000 by jun 5Th. I m not rich, all my and my husband saving are going there. I know the surgery is good for me but the date is coming and all the doubts too. Should I do it. Am i selfish because I spend all this money on me?

My wonderful husband support me a lot but my question is It is worth spend all this money? So confusing. I have conversations about fair or the surgery and stuff but I will like to know self paid people are handling this. I love this site because I did not share this journal with a lot of people.

self paid? hhmmm i think it depends also on your health! are u healthy? do you have problems? whats your quality of life? and balance from there. i was lucky i dont have any health problems i was compltely healthy at 296 pounds. if i didnt have the insurance and being healthy i wouldnt of done it. however if i had health issues yes i would of paid.

I remember back when I decided to go to school to get my Bachelors degree, I kept questioning all the money I was going to spend. (30K) fortunately I had a wonderful mentor tell me, “Why do we question ourselves when it comes to self improvement, but don’t think twice about purchasing a car, a vacation, etc”.

These things are temporary, but this decision is a lifetime of improvement!! You are not just investing in yourself, but as well as for your husband. You’ll be adding years to your life and imagine the things you can do now that you can!!!!

Good Luck on your new venture…

I had my surgery on May 28th 2009.It was one of the smartest things I have ever done in my life. I wish I had done it sooner. I was also private pay. We too are not rich by any means. My husband took money out of his 401k so that I could have the surgery. I felt guilty and was so afraid it woulld not be a success and then all that money would be for nothing. I have lost an average of ten pounds a month except for December. The holidays were a little rough but except for that I have lost 64 pounds. I feel better than I have in years. I would do it again in a minute. It is sooo worth it. Good luck and God bless.

I too was self pay. We are also not rich. The surgery was the best thing I could have ever done for a healthier thinner me. I had the surgery in November and I am down 25 pounds and the compliments are pooring in. I had my surgery done in Mexico by Dr. Aceves in Mexicali and payed half the price in a nice hospital. The entire staff was excellent.

thanks for the advice! It's helping me a lot. (Alli)I not sure how healthy I am but I do have Fatty liver disease and PCOS and one of the causes or factor to this is being overweight and It'll get worse with the time. (Kdee) It's very true what your mentor told you. I am paying a car that is worth same as the surgery. I know this not the easy way but and I very determined person I hope I can do good as you guys. How you guys did on the pre-op diet? and how soon did you feel good? ( I don't like being sick)
