TERRIBLE BAND EXPERIENCE LEADS TO NEW LIFE WITH SLEEVE

I was tired of being overweight and dealing with PCOS (Poly-Cystic Ovarian Syndrome). So on August 24, 2009 I had lapband surgery at Overlook Hospital in Summit, NJ performed by Dr. Muhammed Feteiha. I started at my highest weight of 299. Was down 44 lbs before surgery to 255 the day of surgery. My lowest weight was 212. My total weight lost was 87 lbs. But I was miserable. I threw up usually several times a day. I was working out like crazy, but lived my life searching for a bathroom because I was constantly getting stuck. I knew something was wrong about 1 1/2 years in, but every test showed everything was "normal." So the weight began creeping back up. I was lucky enough to get pregnant in May 2012 and gave birth to a baby boy in February of 2013. Throughout the pregnancy we loosened my band as loose as it could go to avoid the constant throwing up (which still happened) and avoid reflux. Well by June of 2013 I suddenly couldn't keep down water or anything for several days. I was admitted to the hospital. Again all tests showed that everything was "normal" and the only option I was given was to take out my band. I was devastated and felt like I failed. Well after surgery I was told that the band had been adjusted too tight at one point which had caused my stomach to form a band of scar tissue around itself. Essentially my body had formed its own very tight band that was covered by the lapband was unable to be seen for probably the last two years prior. I felt better knowing I wasn't crazy.

In July of 2014 now at my highest weight ever of 330 I knew it was time for change. I was directed to Dr. Michael Nusbaum and began my journey toward a new surgery. I have PCOS and went in not knowing what kind of surgery I wanted - sleeve or bypass. Dr. Nusbaum explained that he truly believed sleeve was the right choice for me. I began eating healthier, working out, and working toward a December 2014 surgery date. Still waiting for insurance approval but with a little luck and prayer I hope to have surgery on December 18, 2014. Can't wait to start anew and make a permanent change to my life.
