I've been dealing with weight issues since the birth of my first child, 26 years ago. I've had a couple of successes, but mostly failed at losing weight. I lost 51 pounds when I limited my carbs to 30 per day. I lost 60 pounds when I did JJ Smith's 10 day Green Smoothie Cleanse. Of course I gained it all back and some extra both times. My heaviest was 259 pounds. I'm 5'5" and carry most of my weight up top, including the abdomen area. I wanted to be healthier and come off the blood pressure and cholesterol medications. So, I went for a Nutrition consult and the NUT told me that I would lose the arms and breast after the WLS. From there, I was sold.
I love reading the forums here at BariatricPal. Lots of helpful information. I didn't find the website until a few days after my surgery. Surgery was 09/21/16, at 6:30 am, so the rest of the day was a blur. My husband says I was pretty out of it. He said I kept waking up looking at him like he was a serial killer. The next day is when I had the swallow test. That was awful. Oh, and I stunk after surgery. I couldn't stand to smell myself. It was three days before I was allowed to shower. I had to drink 32 oz of water before they would allow me to go home. So, I was allowed to leave the hospital at around 8 pm on the second day. Took 12 hours to get that water down.
I'm an easy going person. I used to love food. That is why I chose the VSG. I couldn't watch any of the food shows on TV nor the TASTY or Get In My Belly videos on FB. Now, post surgery, food doesn't appeal to me. I now love watching the videos.
I'm looking forward to the day when I can eat vegetables without throwing up. I'm also looking forward to the day that I'm use to the nasty taste of protein shakes.
I want to lose at least 70 pounds. I'm looking forward to being on this journey with my new BP friends.
