Hi! I'm Risa, and I live in Southeastern NC. I'm a teacher and I decided to have gastric sleeve surgery because last fall I realized a dream I'd been harboring for ten years. When I was growing up my family had a beach house that was right on the ocean. My father, who is usually referred to as Daddy by me, used to take us on a week-long vacation to Oak Island NC every year when I was very small. On the last day I would cry my eyes out because we had to leave. He said it broke his heart how I cried so, in his words "just sorrowful!"   :)  When I was five he and my Mamma's sister/my aunt went together and bought an ocean-front lot: my aunt bought the land and Daddy built the house. Every weekend he would go down and work on the house, until it was finally ready in 9170. We had it for 35 wonderful years, but Daddy was now in his 80's and could not keep the place up. My husband and I tried but it was more than we could handle or afford. I finally agreed to let it go and it sold in 2004.  Last fall my husband and I began looking for a small place near the beach, and we found one along the marsh about 20 miles from my old island but only 10 miles from Holden Beach NC. We bought it and I was so happy... until I started trying to get down onto the beach. The loose sand and my 255 lb weight made the trek to the water all but impossible. Going on the beach was a nightmare because I was breathless and sick from exertion when I finally opened my chair and sat down. I had to hide the fact I was literally gagging from the effort. It was then that I knew I had to do something about my ever-creeping upward weight. I am also diabetic and have had three strokes and two carotid endarterectomies in the last two years. I was time for a change!

My sleeve surgery was Monday July 27.

In other news, I am 51 years old, been married almost 27 years to my college sweetheart. We have a 23 year old son. I am a teacher and case manager for gifted kids in a public middle school, and my hobbies are THE BEACH (!!!), creative writing, reading, having fun, photography, and more beach and fun. Nice to meet you!

TL, DR: I was too fat to get onto the beach so here I am. Hey!
