My name is Jamie. I am currently a stay at home mom of 3. I had gastric bypass surgery on 12/30/2014. I spent my New Years in the hospital.

I made a lot of mistakes in 2014. In August something broke in me. I was fed up with pain. Physical pain was a big one of mine. I had/have a bulging disc that was making exercise next to impossible. My hips aren't even which would make walking very painful. Chiropractic care didn't help any of these issues. My heart was in pain, after being left heart broken after an affair. My mentality was in pain, after turning to bourbon to soothe my worries. My body was in even worse pain, after turning to food to soothe my mistakes. I reached 359 lbs!

I started my journey to gastric bypass surgery in July 2014. Hardest first steps EVER! I went there only having the support of my husband. I second guessed myself all along. The program helped me in so many ways. I lost some weight doing the preop required diet. I didn't get serious though until about 2 months before surgery. It was in that time that I started to eat like I would have to the rest of my life. I gave up the bourbon and binge eating that I thought soothed my heart. I went to Yoga classes even though it hurt physically and was embarrassing! Finally surgery day happened. Everything went great!

At first I was always exhausted. I took naps all the time, much like before surgery too! Around 6 weeks post op my energy returned. I very rarely take naps now! Most of the time I can only sleep around 6 hours now because I wake up and am ready to get the day started. I started at the gym again doing all cardio. Now I'm doing muscle conditioning classes & cardio. I'm gaining muscle which is amazing!! My heart rate is staying lower during epic sessions on the elliptical machine. My back pain and hip pain are much improved. My knees hardly ever hurt now!

I've also decided to get myself a career. I'm going to start barber school this year. It's a scary thing for me to do, but I'm going to do it.

The work that needs done on my heart is a work in progress. I drank two nights in a row a while back and ever since that second night, it hasn't even appealed to me. I'm hoping that I will one day get that figured out. I realize that I was born with a hole in my heart. I've tried to fill it with so many things. One day I'll decide to fill it with what it was meant to be filled with. Until then I'm just a work in progress. One day, one hour, one minute, one second at a time. And I'm trying to enjoy those moments to the full now!
