I considered weight loss surgery several years ago. I had the support of my husband and family, but wasn't quite ready. Now, here I am...ready and taking the step.
I started the journey through MedCenter One in Bismarck, ND. My husband had been in St. Alexius 3 times prior to his death and I didn't feel that I could handle being in the same hospital. I attended the orientation session and was feeling really good about my decision. That was when I looked up to see that the surgeon presenting the session was the same surgeon who did the three surgeries on my husband. He had changed hospitals. I went to the restroom and got myself together, determined to continue the process. He was an excellent doctor for my husband, but cancer was not merciful. I went home and started filling out paperwork. I was approved and made my first appointment. A couple of days before my appointment, I got a call from the hospital. The doctor was no longer employed at the hospital and everything was cancelled. A new doctor was in the process of being certified for bariatric surgery, but they didn't know how long that process would take. I sought out another option and started the process again. I am now working with MidDakota clinic and St. Alexius. I will most likely be recovering on the same floor and wing where my husband was, but they have been very gracious and will see that I am not in any of the rooms that he was in.
I am nervous, excited, and hopeful. Look out world...the skinny girl in me is clawing her way out.
