Stitches or Glued???

I`m just curious as which is used more for LB surgery, stitches or glue?

I just read in another thread someone mention their surgery stitches. I just assumed that with the small incisions

everyone has, they just would be glued closed.

Even when I had my open heart surgery, they glued my incision (they stapled and stiched all the inside stuff).

I have only had stitches when I had my kids and those I never saw , nor did they need removing, and the thought of stitches sort of freaks me a bit.

Doesn't stitches feel uncomfortable with the swelling and bloating, not to mention the itchy feeling?

Isn't it funny, I have no apprehention of a surgeon cutting me open, and digging around in my gut, but talk stitches and I become "unglued" so to speak...

I actually only have 1 small incision and a small dot (for the liver retractor. I only had glue on my incision. My Dr. only does a small incision for the port (if he is able to) there are some factors he looks for after he makes the cut. My husband had 4 small cuts (same DR) . I guess every Dr. Is different and every patient.

I ended up with 6 incisions :). All small with the exeption one about 1 inche long. All glued, no sign of stiches or staples. They didn't put any kind of covering on them either. I had a shower the day after my surgery no problem.:smile2:

I got steri-strips taping my incisions shut. told to let them fall off, which they just did. (my surgery was 2 weeks ago today!) I have lots of tape residue on my skin, though.

I have 5 incesions and ther were stiched internally and glued on the outside I actualy perferred that

I have 5 and mine are all glued. My girls (3&4) like to touch them. The only weird part is that around the edges (the surgeon more than covered the area with glue) it's started to flake off, which i'm glad because it kinda catches on my tshirt.

5 incisions, stitches inside, glue outside....once it started coming off it itched like no other! lol And some of it came off too early (on it's OWN..i didn't touch it) so the incisions kind of widened...does that make sense? But i don't care...it was worth it!
