I am a week out of surgery and feel awesome, i've lost 20lbs in a week so far. However I am really having trouble sticking to the diet. I'm wondering how it's going to effect me if I stray a bit?

I am almost a week out and have lost 8lbs & think that is great. I can't believe you have lost 20lbs. The post-op diet is hard but it will be worth it in the end. I have heard some people on here say they started one helping of mushies a day after a week until they went to mushies and that helped control their hunger. I honestly am scared to start it when I do have to. I don't know what it would to do to you b/c everybody is different. I would talk to your doctor and see what he says. He may tell you to go ahead and start it or start it slowly. I really don't know. Good Luck to you & Congratulations on the 20lbs.

Don't advance your diet without speaking to and getting approval from your Dr first. The diet is there for a reason and breaking it can lead to problems later.

What are you allowed to eat at this stage? Are you allowed Soup? If you are there are lots of tasty , satisfying Soups that you can make. Think any vegetable and you can turn it into soup.

I'm not on mushies until the 13th...

I was banded on July 29th and lost 13 pounds so far. I am so sick of the sweet taste of the shakes too. I had a small amount of creamed soup yesterday and today and tolerated well. I also tried 2 tbsp of very soft scrambled eggs this morning. The clear broth was way too salty for me. I feel fantastic. You should follow your doctors orders but so many have way different guidelines. It's confusing to me..

I was lucky - soup were liquids for me.

Isn't there anything else on your list other than Jello and instant breakfast? I would find that extremely difficult as its all sweet and to me sweet doesn't feel like a meal.I also don't see how it gets you into a good eating pattern as sweet stuff is for a lot of us (but not all) what caused the problem in the first place!

What's the rush?

There are reasons for following the DR's guidelines.

The stomach is healing and the different food stages reflect this.

Be Patient, it is by far, such a small bump in your wt. loss journey.

My mushies also listed mashed potatoes.. which are high in carbs but we are not supposed to be losing but healing right now. Also I can have eggs and refried Beans... so I went and ordered huevos rancheros at our local mexican joint. You get like two eggs fried yet the yolk is runny in delightful rancherero sauce which is like thin spicy salsa and a side of refried beans with extra cheese. I was in heaven. I could only eat about half and the leftovers were great the nest day. Best of luck also with soups.

As far as going on I think the problem is that the stomach inside still needs to be calm and less stressed by harder to digest food as we are healing. I am in the same boat as you still next Tuesday. Hang in there we will get through it.:ohmy:

I am also getting really tired of this post op diet. I am on a straw diet (without the straw). anything that can be sucked through a straw or anything that melts in your mouth for 2 weeks. I have another week left and I am so tired of soup & the sweet shakes. I have been extremly tempted today to have some mushies but I am not going to do it. I'v gone through too much to mess it up now.

i too had my lapband recently (July 29) and was struggling. felt hungry most of the time. after i spoke to my dietician she suggested that i add one more "meal" to the day so now i have the following and it helps me heaps! breakfast, half cup V8 fruit juice; morning tea, half cup liquid custard or yoghurt; lunch, full cup soup; afternoon tea, half cup shake; dinner, full cup soup; after dinner snack, half cup low fat sorbet or gelato. in between these drink plenty of water! i will start the mushy diet in one week and i have to say i am really looking forward to that! hope this is some help to get you through a couple of days at least. don't give up and don't give in.

I feel all of your pain =/ I just told my co-worker that if it was between him and an avocado, the avocado was going to win...whats worse, I dont even like avocados! LoL sigh
