June 28, 200917 yr Hi all, I was wondering if it is normal to be in pain after a fill (and if so, how long does it last?)...I had my first fill this morning and about a half hour after that, my stomach started hurting and hasn't stopped since. Unhappy right now. :-(
June 28, 200917 yr I have not had this experience but I sure you will get a response here. Can you get liquids down? I would call the doc.
June 28, 200917 yr Author I can get liquids down, but just a little at a time. The fill was done under floroscopy, meaning they fill a lot more at a time than they otherwise would. They gave me a 9 cc fill, which seems ridiculously large to me, but when I questioned them, they said it was fine. :-(
June 28, 200917 yr If you are hurting I would say you are over filled. So let me bump this up so we can see what others have to say. What size band do you have? I am a firm believer in small fills but I have had a lot of swelling issues. Keep watching your urine and make sure it does not get too dark. I will check back later and bump this up again if you dont get any responses. Are you still hurting?
June 28, 200917 yr Author Hi there, thanks for responding. The pain got a lot better over the course of the night, but it is still there a bit. Plus, I can only get down a few sips of liquid at a time. I am worried because tomorrow I go back to work and am basically walking from 8-5 for my job so don't know if I will be able to get enough energy for liquids! I have been sipping the worlwide pure Protein drinks, which helps better than juice with my strength. I guess I am wondering if a few days after the fill it is normal to loosen up a bit, or at this fill amount I will always only be able to take down a couple sips of liquid at a time. Is there swelling involved when you get a fill? Thanks for your help!
June 28, 200917 yr 9 cc's at once sounds extreme to me. I think you need to call your doctor. Yes you do swell with a fill.
June 28, 200917 yr I swell when I get a fill. I have been fine the day of the fill and then swollen shut the next day. Not even Water could go down. The swelling was so bad they had to take out more fill than was put in. Then it took about 2 weeks for the swelling to go down and for me to start to get hungry again. Then it took two fills and some weight gain to get restriction again. The only time it hurt was that next day because I was BPing all day long. Then I was sore for a while. I will tell you one thing, it should not hurt. How many ounces of liquid can you get in? I have been told that it can keep swelling. My doc said that you do not want to be too tight because it can irritate and swell over time. Are you going to Tijuana for your fills?
June 28, 200917 yr Author Yeah, I have been getting my fills at the hospital I had the surgery at in Tijuana. Wow, that sounds really bad. The time it hurt the most was when I tried to swallow some pills last night (even though I cut it up into quarters). I just add two pieces of cheese, so I hope it will be ok. I really don't want to swell more- I want to swell less and moving on!
June 28, 200917 yr Well if it does not get better you may need to go get a bit out. I hated it the day I was over filled. Some times just half a cc can make a big difference. Call tomorrow and ask and in the mean time keep doing liquids. When I am swollen I add apple juice to my water and it helps to get calories and sugar in me.
June 29, 200917 yr Author The cheese is staying down pretty well, so hopefully it will be good to go. Thank you for all your input.
