Checking in - 14 months post surgery

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone, Its been forever since I have been on here and just wanted to give everyone a status check as to where I am 14 months after surgery. Weight loss is SLOW but my doctors tell me Im doing great. I think everyone want instint gratification and we all know deep down its not the way to go. I started at 257 and Im down to 204 and with over 20" of inches gone. Started at 20 (tight) and im in 14's now. I myself have had over 12 fills and Im finally where I need to be so if you can still eat eat eat, get a fill you wont regret it. I have to contribute some of my weight loss to my spinning classes which im am now addicted to! I go about 3-4 times a week and burn about 500-600 a class! One of my goals is to become an instructor and teach a class or two a week but I have to shed the remaining weight first. Who wants to look at an over weight instructor even though I can kick their buts on that cycle! I keep asking my doc if I should be trying to eat more than I do because I burn so much and maybe that is why Im losing so slowly but they say no. Has anyones doctor told them differently?? I still have 55 to go to meet my goal and dont want it to take another year to do so!

Bottom line - if people are out there and getting discouraged, dont! Look back on what you have lost and thank the lord above we still dont have that weight on us!

Slow and steady wins the race!!!!

Thanks for this encouraging post! I am 6 months out and I have lost a little over thirty pounds. In the past, I was disappointed; however, I am so grateful now. Like you said, I thank God for the progress and I am not where I used to be.

I was on a trip out of the country last week and I am sure I gained a few lbs because my body clock is really messed up right now so I was tighter at different times than usual - anyway, I have been very discouraged lately because I am a year out June 27th and I think I have only lost about 18-20 lbs. I had 50 to lose so almost half but I thought by now I would be almost to my goal. It is very very slow so I feel like I am not losing at all. Sometimes I can eat so much and sometimes like this morning I could barely swallow my Protein Shake - since I was on a plane for 10 hours yesterday may have something to do with dehydration but I have been thinking a lot the past few days are the scars, the port sticking up, the choking at dinner worth it. I guess I will give it another year and see but my stomach still sticks out so much I can't believe it isn't smaller after 11 months. Thanks for letting me vent.

Hi Michelle

You have a great attitude towards this whole thing - just keep moving forward and when you get a little discouraged look back on what you have achieved! I am about 8 months out since surgery and have lost about 55 pounds, which I thought was slow and I have become annoyed and frustrated at times but I'm just going to keep on moving on! All the best to all of you and congratulations!

I was not eating much and not losing and my nut said it was because I needed to eat more. I started eating a couple TBS of Peanut Butter at night and within a couple days started losing again!!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
