Got approval!

Well, after just a smiggen over 2 wks of waiting for approval, I found out today that I have been approved for the lapband!

I was just shocked! Last year after getting all of the testing done, I tried for approval of the lapband. Denied. The insurance covered RNY only at the time. Then I found out that BC/BS Carefirst had changed from 'experimental' to covering it, with my policy! All the testing I did late last year, was good for a year, but not after that time frame.

They even gave me a surgery date! However, it was a date that wasn't good for my division/group/supervisor. We are doing year end stuff from where I work. My supervisor, who was going off to vacation tomorrow, made an exception for me because of the surgery/situation to have it done-Oct 31. So, I'm waiting on the okay from the nurses/hospital, to do it then.

My head is still spinning. I've been researching this for a few years now. Now, it's time to get a move on. I was told to get going on liquid shakes 2 x day and 1 meal (I'm getting the specifics in a packet that's in the mail). But, that was for an Oct 10 date. for almost 3 wks later than that, I'm not sure exactly when I need to start.

Still in bit of a daze

Thanks for the congrats, Keri, Jessie, and Eileen!

Still waiting on the call back from the dr's office. The office I'm going to is always soooooo busy. Not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing?

Found out from the orthoped doc that my left knee will have to re-built within a year. Told him WLS will be coming up. He said to get off as much weight as I can before he'd do surgery. Got a cortisone shot today and follow up in 4 wks. The next step is a Supartz joint fluid therapy, with one shot once a week for 5 weeks.

Has anyone one, or knows someone who has tried this? It wasn't good hearing that someone is usually in their 60's before this stuff usually happens. So, today I felt really old, for being 50.
