Since my insurance won't cover being banded, I was wondering how it worked with self-pay.

Will I have to do 6 months dr. supervised diet, pscyh eval, etc.? How fast is the process between consultation and actualy surgery when you are self pay?

I think that if your surgeon doesnt have a waiting list you can get an surgery date pretty quickly. For example, I am self pay because my insurance doesn't cover obesity related surgery. I had my first appt Mon April 6 and was approved for financing. My surgery date is April 24. Pretty darned quick! It stinks that I have to pay out of pocket but at least with self pay you dont have to jump through all of the insurance hoops. Best of luck to you!

I was self-pay and was banded two weeks after I made the call to Cincy Weight Loss. I met with the doc, had a short psych eval, and did all my financing on the same day. No muss no fuss.

I was self pay too. Quick and easy!!! I had my consultation on August 13th and my surgery was scheduled for September 12th. I didn't have to have a phych eval or a supervised diet. Just had to have some lab work done and an EKG. Good luck to you!! Becky

Went to my first informational seminar at the end of July and was banded in early October. Could have had it done in mid-September, but ended up catching a cold and getting laryngitis.

I'm a self-pay and had consult on 04/01/09 and surgery is scheduled for 04/14/09. No psych eval or supervised diet... just the usual pre-op testing that's done before any surgery. Good luck.

It is much quicker with self pay. I had my first consultation on March 25th and have my surgery scheduled for May 5th. I met with a physician who told me that I had to have a nutritional consult, a stress test, a sleep study and clearance from my psychiatrist. I could have scheduled it sooner but the sleep study is holding it up. They can't get me in until April 20th. My insurance is paying for all of the pre-surgery testing, they just will not pay for the surgery Good luck! I am very excited!
