Pre opt diet

I finally got my surgery date, did all my pre opt appoinment and now the pre op liquid diet. This is my first day and all I can think about it FOOD!! Does anyone have any sugestions on what I can eat? I have to do the protein drinks and vegetables for two weeks. But I can tell that green beans will get OLD!! So any suggestions will be very much appreciated.

What exactly do your instructions from your surgeon say? It is important that you do exactly what YOUR doc tells you to; all diets are a little different. Tell us what yours says and we can maybe help you...

I will just say that the liquid diet was really, really, really hard for me. Others say it was no big deal. I did find that after the 3rd day, it did get easier and I thought of food less often. I was not allowed anything but protein shakes. I could have broth and that was nice, especially on a cold day! One thing I did was just try to keep busy and when I started thinking of food, I would change my activity, go for a walk, watch my favorite TV show, etc. Anything to keep your mind off of it! You can do it though, really you can! I did it and I would have never guessed it!! Good luck!! : ))))

Yes....let us know what you can have and maybe we can help. And I sure do agree with Shelley - keep busy!! Go to the movie, for a walk, window shopping, read a good book.... I spent a lot of time on here. Computer time seems to go by faster than real time. I read lots on LBT and had many of my questions answered and concerns addressed - helped me be more prepared and comfortable when I finally had my surgery. It's not easy, but you can do it. Good luck!!! Becky

I know what you mean! BUT stick to your preop diet to the letter (and even more importantly the first 6 weeks or so of the post op diet)! Don't cheat...it's just for a little while and then you should be able to eat most foods again, you'll just (as you get restriction) be able to eat less. This is the hardest part but hang in there so your liver will shrink and you will have a smooth operation! :tongue_smilie:

Hi Resintx,

I don't have my date yet, but I am sure everyone goes through this same thing. Just keep telling yourself that it will all be worth it when you're thin and healthy! Keep busy, stay on LBT for support, ideas, and inspiration. Looking at Before & After pics does it for me!

Just remember:

Nothing you eat will taste as good as being thin will feel!

Good luck and hang in there - the pre-op diet will be over before you know it!!
